Again when we look at the difference between PPC and SEO, it can be best described the type of relationship it has within the search engine. Paid advertising is a very linear-based relationship. Your listing depends on the amount you are willing to spend on the keyword and the amount of clicks you get from your PPC ad is directly related to the amount in which the ad will cost you. The more clicks you get the more you will spend on the ad, if you don’t get clicks then you don’t spending anything. The organic listing however has a more logarithmic relationship with the search engines. Which means that a specific algorithm determines your listing rank and once you get the rank you want, you may be paying a monthly fee to a company to maintain this but there is no direct relations between this fee and the number of clicks you get. So you can get a much large amount of clicks and not be paying a per click price as you would with paid search marketing. So PPC is a very short term strategy to get you ranked in the search engines quickly and very targeted, where SEO is more of a long term strategy that will pay off in the long run. Both however are required to have a good holistic marketing approach. In essence, the whole is greater than the sum of its individual parts. The theory being that the double exposure to your brand makes a user feel more confident in clicking through.
So lets look at one of the key best practices for effective paid search marketing advertisements. It is important that because clients that tend to click on PPC ads are more likely to be in a “buy” mode that for higher conversions you include Strong Call-to-actions or Promotional Offers - Use words like “save”, “order”, “buy” or “shop”. If there are no sales to be done on the site, then use words like “free shipping” or “browse” or “compare”. This will entice them a little more to take action on your ad as you are speaking to them in terms they can relate to when they are ready to make a purchase. This is one best practices of PPC, there are many more and I can always discuss these with you offline.
As I mentioned earlier, SEO generally represents 75% of the traffic to your site, so there is great importance to being ranked high in the search engines for your specific keywords. Most of the time the visitors coming to your site via organic listings are still in research mode so directing them to relevant information based on their need to make an informed purchase decision is key. One best practice we recommend from an SEO perspective is to use action words in the “Title Tag” (which is he line of text that is underlined in blue, when a user conducts a search on the Search Engines). The user is looking for something specific, and the faster you can show them a match, the more likely they will click. Using action words like “learn”, “discover”, “find” and “read” are good examples of informational action words. Words such as “try”, “get”, “buy” and “download” are transactional action words. When we work with our clients we recommend the following Title Tag formula: primary keyword + action word + secondary keyword + company nameAgain there are a number of other best practices for SEO, which we can always discuss further offline.
