6. Hypothesis
On the Spanish musical scenario, owing to
the isolation caused by the Franco regime
and the country’s culture idiosyncrasy, the
diffusion of artistic currents is usually
outdated and late, and in many cases it
has consisted in a copy or imitation of
foreign relevant composers’ works.
I intend to prove that Llorenç Barber’s
work has evolved simultaneously with the
international current since he adapted his
catalogue fast, and developed an original
and personal style that is unique in the
global music history in spite of the fact that
Barber joined during the 70s due to his
youth.
Also, I will prove that the history of Spain
conditioned this music works from their
production system to its most fundamental
stylistic traits.
I. To set a theoretical framework that enables
to place the author aesthetically in all his
aspects.
II. To provide the historical context in which
said musical works have appeared.
III. To develop methodologies of musical
analysis that help to obtain the largest
wealth of significant information regarding
Llorenç Barber’s musical works.
IV. To contrast the information obtained
through the analyses with the poetic and
musicological works written by him.
V. To condense the composition techniques
that make up the author’s style.
VI. To develop a critique of the current
methods of musical analysis to date on the
basis of their usefulness and effectiveness
to deal with this type of works.
VII. To contrast the author’s opinions with other
relevant witnesses of the period.
