17. SISTEMA TÍPICO DE TRANSMISIÓN DE
CIRCUITO CERRADO
Consiste en una bomba conectada directamente a
un motor hidráulico.
La bomba usualmente es de desplazamiento
variable y el motor es de desplazamiento
constante.

There are no alignment difficulties or constant maintenance due to belts, pulleys, chains, sprockets etc. The hydraulic oil both provides the power and lubricates the hydraulic motor. Flexible hoses permit easy mounting and flexing of hydraulic drive. Hydraulic motors can be stalled completely for long periods of time without damage. Hydraulic motors transmit very high amounts of power in very small package. Speed can be infinitely varied forward and reverse with great ease. A single Diesel engine can power multiple independent hydraulic systems. Diesel engine can be positioned for easy operation and maintenance. Hydraulics can be used submerged or in hazardous environments.
Benefits: Hydraulic motor is much lighter and easier to install than Diesel engine. This enables the mast to be lighter. Because flexible hoses are used to connect the pump and motor, the mast can be tilted to provide for better operation on un-even ground. It can be easily laid down for transportation. The “drill string” is constantly changing direction and speed due to varying rock conditions. The Diesel engine operates at its optimum speed for efficiency and long life. Speed and direction of the drill are controlled by the hydraulic system. In the event the drill bit jams in the rock, no damage is done to the hydraulic system! The hydraulic motor provides full torque at stalled conditions. The drill is lifted up and started again. There are no fuses to replace such as on an electrical drive.
