2. REGLAS ORTOGRÁFICAS
•
Si un adjetivo acaba en “-e” , sólo añadimos “-r”
para el comparativo y “-st” para el superlativo.
Ejemplo:
safe (seguro)
safer
the safest
The car is safer than the bike
The plane is the safest means of transport

3. REGLAS ORTOGRÁFICAS
•
Si un adjetivo acaba en una sóla consonante precedida de
una sola vocal (esto es, el esquema
consonante+vocal+consonante), antes de la terminación “er” para el comparativo;”-est” para el superlativo, la
consonante se dobla.
Ejemplo:
big (grande)

The jet ski is bigger than the tricycle
The boat is the biggest of the three

5. EJEMPLOS CON ADJETIVOS IRREGULARES

7. EJEMPLOS CON ADJETIVOS IRREGULARES

8. THAN COMPARATIVO
Cuando usamos el adjetivo en grado
comparativo, si decimos el segundo término
de la comparación, éste debe ir introducido
por than = que
The plane is faster than the train
más rápido que

9. MÁS SOBRE COMPARATIVOS
Podemos usar un adverbio de cantidad con un
comparativo, esto es, frases del tipo: mucho
más caro; un poco más barato. ¿Cómo?
MUCHO: MUCH/FAR
Ejemplo: low cost airlines are far cheaper than
regular companies.

A bike is much more ecological than a car
mucho más ecológica

10. MÁS SOBRE COMPARATIVOS
UN POCO: a bit / a little
Ejemplos:
The price of a ten-journey ticket is a bit more
expensive now than in 2009.
un poco más caro que
The bus fare was a little cheaper some months
ago.
un poco más barato

11. COMPARATIVO DE INFERIORIDAD
Hay dos maneras de hacer el comparativo de
inferioridad: 1- menos que 2- no tan...como.
MENOS QUE: less + adjetivo+ than
EJEMPLO:
Crisps are less healthy than vegetables
Menos sanas que

12. COMPARATIVO DE INFERIORIDAD
NO TAN ....COMO: not so/as + adjetivo+as
Ejemplo: The car is not so fast as the plane
no es tan rápido como
The English language is not as difficult as the
Chinese language
no es tan difícil como

13. COMPARATIVO DE IGUALDAD
El comparativo de igualdad – tan .... como- en
inglés es: as+ adjetivo+ as
Ejemplo:
Bungee-jumping is as exciting as mountaineering
tan emocionante como

14. ALGO MÁS SOBRE SUPERLATIVOS
Ya sabemos que el superlativo en inglés se forma con el
sufijo “-est” o bien con the most, según el número de
sílabas del adjetivo. Ver diapositivas 1,2 y 3.
¿Cómo sería en inglés una frase del tipo:
La bicicleta es el medio de transporte menos rápido de
todos ?
El menos, la menos, lo menos+ adjetivo en inglés se
dice con the least+adjective, independientemente del
número de sílabas que dicho adjetivo tenga.
Ejemplo: The bike is the least fast of all means of
transport. ( adjetivo corto)
The bike is the least comfortable of all means of
transport. (adjetivo largo)

15. ALGO MÁS SOBRE SUPERLATIVOS
Otro asunto que resulta interesante a lo hora
de usar los superlativos en inglés es qué
preposición usar en este tipo de frases:
Es el coche más caro del concesionario
It is the most expensive car in the car
dealership
Es el coche más rápido de todos.
It’s the fastest car of all.
Usamos in para lugares; usamos of para
referirnos a un grupo.

16. COMPARATIVOS Y SUPERLATIVOS DE ADVERBIOS
Como norma, el comparativo y el superlativo
de los adverbios se forma con more y most.
Ejemplo
Fernando Alonso drives more quickly than Hamilton
Fernando Alonso conduce más rápido que Hamilton

17. COMPARATIVOS Y SUPERLATIVOS DE ADVERBIOS
Sin embargo, hay una serie de adverbios que hacen el
comparativo con “-er” y el superlativo con “-est”. Estos
son los más comunes:
Fast (rápido, rápidamente)- Faster- The Fastest
Soon (pronto) – Sooner – The Soonest
Late (tarde) – Later- The Latest
Hard (mucho)- Harder- The Hardest
Near (cerca)- Nearer- The Nearest
Early (temprano)- Earlier- The Earliest
EXAMPLES
Yesterday I went to bed earlier than usual.
Ayer me acosté más temprano de lo habitual.
She works the hardest.
Ella es la que más trabaja.

18. COMPARATIVOS Y SUPERLATIVOS DE ADVERBIOS
Por último, señalar que también encontramos
comparativos y superlativos irregulares. Estos son:
