Profile
I studied Fine Arts and Architecture in Madrid, combining my studies with
my work in Todo por la Praxis, a multidisciplinary collective of architects, so-
ciologists, designers and artists based in Madrid of which I was a member
from 2016 to 2019.
I understand architecture and design as political activities that play a key
role in shaping our societies, also, as tools that can allow us to abandon the
role of extras on a stage designed by others which conditions our way of
living, thinking and relating. I am interested in exploring new roles that break
with the practice of design and architecture as isolated disciplines in order
to contribute to develope more sustainable ways of inhabiting.

Thermodynamic design
strategies
The module Thermodynamic design strategies
explores the design opportunities which the
field of thermodynamics and ecology is ope-
ning to architecture, and specifically to the field
of collective housing. From a practical and pro-
ject-oriented stand point, the module focuses
on connecting thermodynamics and ecology to
architecture with the objective of finding potential
design strategies which bridge the void between
quantitative and qualitative approaches.
A thermodynamic approach to architecture
has three fundamental fields of enquiry: first, a
metabolic-territorial approach which connects
buildings and its construction to geobiological
cycles; second, an atmospheric approach which
connects buildings and users’ comfort to the at-
mosphere; and third, an infrastructural approach
which abounds on the durability and adaptation
of building to users’ usage in time.

Thermodinamyc prototipe
After studying the thermodynamic conditions of
vernacular architecture, the proposal reinterprets
these conditions by adapting them to new buil-
ding techniques and materials, generating a pro-
totype of a housing unit with different program-
matic spaces in relation to temperature flows.
By arranging a greater number of units together,
a semi-covered public space is generated which,
in turn, functions as the source of fresh air that
feedstheroomsbymeansoftheconvectiveeffect.

Construction & Technology
Culture of construction
The aim of this course is to analyse the building
as a physical system within the technical and
integration systems in the design process. The
theory is focused on the description of the main
solutions given by architects in their most rele-
vant buildings and the analysis of the different
technical systems that make up the building.
Highly experienced professionals in housing
construction and design transmited their expe-
rience and knowledge in these fields.
The aim of this module is to understand buildings
as entities based on the interplay of three phy-
sical realms: structure, envelope and services,
connected by one technique: industrialization

Torre Julia. From BCN to CPH
The exercise consisted in the election of a well
known collective housing project to propose its
construction in a completely different context to
that of the original location.
The chosen project was Julia Tower -a housing
building designed by the architects Vidal, Pons
and Galiana, built in the Poblenou district of Bar-
celona - to move it into a context with a cold and
rich climate, the new Orestad development in
Copenhagen. The new context forces to rethink
the climatic and constructive needs of the buil-
ding as well as the material and technical oppor-
tunities of its execution.

Low cost & Emergency housing
Design strategies for
emergency shelters
Three fourths of the world’s dwellings have been
built without the presence of an architect or un-
der any normative rule. This specialty seminar
analyses the essential shelter conditions under
emergency situations.
Based on a case study approach, customs and
rules capable of generating an urban environ-
ment will be withdrawn. Likewise, a specific case
will be developed under real circumstances.
Humanitarian housing must mean more than res-
pite from apocalypse dodging; it should nurture
the life experiences that enrich, be built around
systems that not only beat back death, but which
foster life.
tecto o bajo cualquier norma.

Objectives
1. Analyse the context and the situation of the
families in order to understand better needs, ca-
pacities and resources in place, which will help
to define the strategy.
2. Define and limit the two relocation site for 380
households based on people’s needs, humani-
tarian standards and other guidelines in order to
design a site. One is the site will relocate affec-
ted families of Chibue (280 families, 1900 per-
sons) and the other will allocate 100 families from
Dombe town (460 persons).
3. Analyse and define basic infrastructures to
provide service to resettled families.
.
4. Design a strategy to provide adequate shelter
to displaced families taken into account process
and construction phases, as well as humanita-
rian standards. Allways taking into consideration
time, resources, capacities, barriers, or cost.
Objetivos

Chibue shettlement
280 families, 1900 persons
Chibue is a rural area of the province of Manica
in Mozambique. The composition of a household
is usually a man married with more than one
women, every women has a dwelling, a circular
hats-shaped house usually made by wood and
clay bricks, where she lives with her children.
The man lives in an individual house.
The area assigned by the government is a site
located in a higher position in order to avoid fu-
ture floodings.

Dombe is an urban settlement in the same pro-
vince of Manica. In this case the family compo-
sition is different from that of the rural areas, al-
though a man can share a household with more
than one woman, it is usual to find family nucleus
of a man and one or two women with their chil-
dren.
The materials and construction techniques are
also different to those of rural areas, with the
most common being the presence of sheet metal
roofs or concrete block houses.

New inputs
When working in the field in difficult and degra-
ded contexts it is very important to plan well and
to define clear strategies from the beginning. Ne-
vertheless, situation is no static and working con-
ditions can change from one minute to the other,
forcing us to adapt quickly, change priorities and
sometimes-even strategies.
While working in Dombe, UNHCR donated 60
Refugee Housing Units (RHU) which have to in-
tegrater in the response and adapted to the con-
ditions looking to provide shelter in the long term.
Nuevos inputs
porcionar refugio a largo plazo.

Urban design
A different approach
The purpose of the module is to design the Cam-
pamento District, a new developement located
southeast of the city of Madrid, the most impor-
tant piece to complete this area of the city, whit
almost 200 Ha.
After studying the statement and in a context of
lockdown in the midst of the pandemic, a question
arises: should cities continue to be developed
in the same way as they have been developed
throughout the 20th century? Should we continue
to consolidate cities through projects of such a
huge scale, developed in such a short time?
Projects such as the Campamento Opera-
tion represent a very large impact on the ci-
ty’s ecosystem. Such developments, which
are mainly driven by real estate speculation,
can lead to serious alterations in the urban
and natural ecosystem (loss of biodiversi-
ty, soil erosion, increase in rental prices...).
The greater the impact, the greater the risk.
The question then becomes : Can we think of
alternative ways of making cities ready to face
future challenges in a decentralised and horizon-
tal way?
mejantes desarrollos, dirigidos principalmente
por la especulación inmobiliaria, pueden produ-
cir serias alteraciones en el ecosistema urbano
y natural (perdida de biodiversidad, erosión del
suelo, subida de precios del alquiler…). Cuanto

Campamento Reversible
The boardgame for city
creators
The proposal then materializes not only in an al-
ternative proposal to build (or deconstruct) the
city, but also in the development of new commu-
nicative tools to make this type of development
possible.
The project consists of a collaborative board
game in which several players must agree to de-
velop the type of city they would like to have in
the future.
During the game, a series of unexpected events
will take place, forcing the players to negotiate
in order to decide collectively how to face these
challenges.
Campamento Reversible exemplifies the proces-
ses of discussion about the city and invites the
inhabitants to become protagonists in the crea-
tion of the city.

Closed cycle ecosystems
The main objective of the game is to stablish an
autonomous neighborhood that uses the resour-
ces whisely in an ecosystem where the waste
from one activity can become a resource for
others.
Flows, networks and cycles of production and
consumption are formed across different fields,
creating closed chains of need and supply as lo-
cally as posiblee, but also in as many diversified
ways as possible for the creation of a network of
closed ecological cycles using land reversibly.
Laboratorios de producción
ecosistemas de ciclos
cerrados
reversible.

Superblockchain!
When the right ammount of resources is gained
each player is able to exchange for blocks and
later put together in superblocks. A supeblock
is coumpound by 9 blocks.
The more mixed the uses are the better to ge-
nerate a diverse and mixed city, this is why the
cost of individual uses are much more expensive
than the rest.
Once the 60% (housing)- 20% (office) - 20%
(commerce) combination is created a super-
block is added to the chain!
Superblockchain!

Game blocks
Every block can have different combinations of
uses (housing, comerce, office). To generate
a superblock the sum of the percentages in all
blocks always have to meet the requierments of
60% = 5 housing, 20%= 2 office and 20%= 2
comercial.
Bloques
Cada bloque tiene diferentes combinaciones de
usos (vivienda, comercio, oficina).
20% = 2 oficinas y 20% = 2 comercios.
52. 52 Module 4
Resource and Event cards
There are two types of cards in the game; the
RESOURCE CARDS and the EVENT CARDS
Resouce cards are given to the players in each
round and combined can be exchanged in order
to build city Blocks.
Every roud in the game represents 5 years. Event
Cards both negative (BADNEWS!) and positive
(GOODNEWS!) are picked in each round and
will affect all the players in the game. The conse-
quences of these cards will be reflected on the
resources or blocks, depending on the magnitu-
de of the event.
When the year 2100 arrives (15 rounds) is the
last round of the game. If the players have been
able to stablish a self sufficient neighborhood
they win the game. If not the city collapses and
the players loose.

Future Campamento?
The idea of including production in the urban
system is partly to strenght the capacity of the
urban enviroment to react to change. But also to
integreate the community in their own well being
by democratic participation and visibility of the
cities systems, inhabitants will have the power
to design and decide the future of their city,
adjusting to their needs and generating identi-
ty, responsibility and connexion between all the
citizens.
The final purpose of the game is to explore di-
fferent means of communicating and developing
architecture and urbanism so that any potential
user of the space can participate in its design
and construction. On the other hand, this format
allows to include a variable that is usually left out
in the traditional means of representation of ar-
chitecture and urbanism, the variable of the pas-
sage of time. Its inclusion in this format allows
to force a reflection on how the spaces we will
inhabit should be in the long term.

City Cohousing
Exploring the brave new
world of living toghether
Imagine that you can live in Madrid the way you
envision your life in the near future and that you
have the possibility to design this space. Who
are you? Are you happy with who you are? Do
you want to take the opportunity to be that per-
son you admire or simply a different you, imagine
that you are your grandmother, a super millionai-
re, or a porn star, and then think a world or desire
and spaces that you may need.
This requires a programme, concepts, ambi-
tions, a diagram of functions, ways to use it, di-
fferent activities happening, a map of qualities,
amounts of light or noise required, spaces con-
nected, levels of privacy. Sharing spaces? Alone
but connected? The relation between human and
technology. A co-living space.
We live with other groups and with the we have to
organize a cohousing. This needs to rethink spa-
ces that should be organized and coordinated,
produce a certain section, a plan of activities,
common uses connections, flexibility and trans-
formations, time tables of use, and everything
coordinated with the other members.

¿Quién eres? ¿Eres feliz? ¿Quieres aprove-
do o deseo y qué espacios podrás necesitar.
Esto requiere un programa, conceptos, am-
biciones, diagramas de funciones, formas
de usarlo, diferentes actividades que se rea-
lizan, cualidades, cantidades de luz o ruido
requeridas, espacios conectados, niveles de
privacidad. ¿Compartir los espacios? ¿Solo

Home2share
A home sharing device
This exercise starts with the analysis of the
residential components. Analysis understood as
distinction and separation of the parts of some-
thing to know its composition for the subsequent
synthesis or recombination of these elements.
Are these components related to activities (sto-
rage, sleep, eat, cook, meet, read, watch tv,
exercise, work, dance, shower, toilet, specific
hobbies…); to spatial qualities (size, height, pro-
portion, flexibility…); to thermodynamic condi-
tions (temperature, ventilation, light…); to social
properties (private, introverted, public, connec-
ted)?
According to which considerations should we
fragment the residential space in order to achie-
ve a rich catalogue with which we can identify
our desired spaces throughout the day and the
seasons?
home2share is the world’s first home sharing ser-
vice. All you need is the app. Grab a home2sha-
re anywhere in a home2share location and choo-
se the home-elements you need. You do not pay
when you are not in the city, but you can retain
a minimum unit and expand it when necessary.
actividades (almacenar, dormir, comer, cocinar,
reunirse, leer, hacer ejercicio, trabajar, bailar, du-
charse, ir al baño,...); con cualidades espacia-
les (tamaño, altura, proporción, flexibilidad...);
mos identificar nuestros espacios desea-
No pa-
sea necesario.

Overcoming clichés in
collective housing design
This workshop is focused on low-cost housing,
on affordable and innovative solutions to the ba-
sic need for a small-sized quality housing. The
assignment gives the opportunity to think about
social, cultural and environmental effects in sus-
tainable design and construction. Participants
are challenged to conceive a new and original
concept for a low-cost house with expandable
units or local materials, however - not strictly limi-
ted to “low tech”.
The workshop is designed to challenge and seek
creativity with traditional ideas and concepts in
architectural design of collective living spaces.
It aims to promote alternative solutions to hou-
sing, coming up with affordable and sustaina-
ble units with limited size and budget to meet
urgent demands in housing market, something
not in contradiction with singular, enjoyable and
inviting domestic spAces. The challenge is both
multidisciplinary and multiscale, a minimal hou-
sing unit capable of fulfilling the residents’ requi-
rements of comfort, thrift and sustainability.
vivienda, proponiendo unidades asequibles y

1. The thick plan
Speculations on the housing market often result
in extremely deep floor plans which demand a
lot of skill to deal with. Depths of 20m are not rare
at all, often worsened by an extreme thinness of
less than 6m. There is also a number of historical
plans with such measures.

conversed for the present-day needs. Functional

5. Irregular contours 1
Sometimes we face the task to design a dwe-
lling in a predefined contour. Reasons for this
can be quite diverse – be it an existing structure
that has to be converted into dwellings or urban
requirements. But complex and irregular borders
doesn’t necessarily mean a shortcoming in spa-
tial and atmospheric quality.

contorno predefinido.
requisitos urbanos. Pero unos límites complejos

deficiencia en la calidad espacial y atmosférica.

Torres de Colón
The Post-Pandemic Tower as
Re-usable Urban Ecosystem
This workshop is about re-imagining Madrid’s
most iconic towers, the Torres de Colón, as a ra-
dically sustainable, inclusive and uplifting place
to live in the context of two current global crises:
the Climate Crisis and the Covid-19 pandemic.
These two crises have forced us to re-think the
nature of how we live, how we consume, how we
relate and how we work. Homes have revived
the pre-industrial revolution norm of the home as
workplace. Lockdowns and limits on our mobi-
lity have brought the neighbourhoods immedia-
tely around our homes into renewed focus. We
are more dependent on our local services. We
consume less and as a result we produce less
waste. Our reduced mobility has allowed us to
discover surprising new places locally.
All these discoveries are life-enhancing. They
point toward our collective potential to formulate
a new and better urban reality. They are also a
catalyst for architects to reinvent the organisa-
tional, spatial and material conventions of urban
housing.
La Torre post-pandémica,
sistema urbano reutilizable
Consumimos menos y producimos menos resi-
duos. La movilidad reducida nos ha permitido
descubrir nuevos lugares a nivel local.
Todos estos descubrimientos apuntan hacia
nuestro potencial colectivo para formular una
nueva y mejor realidad urbana. También son un
catalizador para que los arquitectos reinventen
las convenciones organizativas, espaciales y
materiales de la vivienda urbana.

John Cage composed Fontana Mix1 in 1958,
consisting in the superposition and combination

not exhausted their permitted buildable area to
accomodate people and families in a temporary

The city as a balance
substance
If we consider the city to be a substance, and we
call what is built additive substance and what is
empty, open or planed but not closed substrative
substance ,we can examine if there is a balance
between them. This balance affects directly the
density and the quality factors of the city, air qua-
lity, light, noise, etc.
If we analize these substances through typolo-
gies, we can distinguish between veranda hou-
ses or courtyard houses. Wich constructions
are related to the outside or to the inside to feed
themselves with air aln light?.
This substances are also related between them
through the methodology used to produce them.
Is something planned from the beginning or it
has been produced by multiplous negotiations
between neighbours trhough time?
All this topics are proposed to explore the city
and to sudy it to identify spaces of opportunity to
intervene its balance.
delaciudad,lacalidaddelaire,laluz,elruido,etc.

A simple question
This workshop aims to explore ways to inter-
vene and project in different urban fabrics in
the same city. Each context (old town, 19th
century extensions and new developments)
involves a different materiality, scale, program-
me, form, etc. When we want to understand
a city, we must understand the different pe-
riods that make it up, follow the thought pro-
cess of the people who built it and unders-
tand the social circumstances of each period.
After analysing the context in which the pro-
jects are inserted, architecture must try to
answer a simple question; How can I im-
prove the quality of life of ordinary people?
Through a methodology in which the students
exchange their work every day in order to con-
tinue developing that of their classmates, reflec-
tion is forced on how to intervene in each context
through different architectural elements (com-
position, structure, envelope). The result of the
work is a sort of exquisite corpse, in which the
ideas of other classmates form the basis of the
final result.
Una pregunta sencilla
Este workshop explora formas de intervenir y
proyectar en distintos tejidos urbanos en una
misma ciudad. Cada contexto (casco antiguo,
ensanches siglo XIX y nuevos desarrollos) con-
lleva una diferente materialidad, escala, pro-
grama, forma, etc.

Shifting paradigm
The most important sentence of the XX century

purpose was to balance the economic input and
output from it.
Nowadays other aspects like mobility, environ-
mental performance, energy, etc. must be the
main key drivers for an architectural project. To
build long lasting buildings that make a contribu-
tion to the public.
to arquitectónico. Construir edificios duraderos
que hagan una contribución al público.
