El Mago
-Vamos Tom, esperamos cinco minutos y entramos.
-¿Qué has hecho?- grite.
¡Oh! ¡No!
me pregunte a mí mismo.
Repase varias veces el texto. Cerré los ojos y comencé…
-Santel galbuner…eh… cunyts farencen…lotoya enquis…
-Santel galimburen … cunits farencen…lobiyota palenenquis…
emm ....musiramunes deteriomesis- repeti.
-¡Oh! ¡No!- dije.

Never stop…
I got married four months ago with Diane. We met at the geology
university 2 years ago. Both of us are studying geology and we want to
travel all around the world to look for new places where to find new
rocks and crystals.
We are very happy to work together. But the most important thing is that
we combine our learning’s to discover new things. Just like before our
marriage. We combined our hypothesis and got to the conclusion that
the Chocolate Hills in Bohol, Philippines have underground caves that
contain gemstones. Now we are going on a trip to the Chocolate Hills.
So tomorrow Diane and me will sit on an airplane and fly directly to
Bohol.
-Do not forget your tools, Andrew- Diane told me.
-I won’t, honey- and I smiled to her.
At 8 a.m. we were half way to Bohol. Diane told me to get some sleep. I
was so tired, but at the same time so desperate to get to the hills…
-Wake up, Andrew. We are here! - Diane woke me up. The airplane was
still and there were only some passengers picking up their things to get
out of the plane.
We got out of the airplane, picked up our baggage and found a small
restaurant were to eat.
Two hours later we took a taxi to the Chocolate Hills.
-I hope we find those caverns this week- I told Diane.
-Yeah, me too! - She replied.
–Are there any wild animals that live in the hills?- she asked.
I didn’t know what to say. We didn’t think about that little detail. So I
asked the same question to the taxi driver.
6. -There are bears, and sometimes snakes… but they do not hurt you if you
do not bother them. - He said.
At last we arrived.
“Wow!” was my first impression.
The hills were supposedly composed of around 1,268 perfectly cone-
shaped hills of about the same size spread over an area of more than 50
square kilometers. This was a highly unusual geological formation. But it
was perfect! Everything was so beautiful and natural!
Diane was impressed too! She didn’t stop to take pictures until I told her
that we did not take any extra batteries with us.
We walked all day. At night, Diane found a nice place to make a tent
and have some sleep.
I made the tent while she made supper for us. Then, with some dried
leaves and branches we created a bonfire. We didn’t have
marshmallows but still, it was an unforgettable moment.
I woke up by the sound of heavy steps and can scratching sounds. No
human, but animal steps. And then I remembered what the taxi driver
told us. Bears habituated in the hills and we forgot to hide the food last
night.
I decided to wake up Diane; maybe she would know what to do.
-Do not move, with that, the bear will not sense our movements- she said.
So the only thing to do was to lay and wait.
Fifteen minutes passed and everything got very quiet. I realized that the
bear was gone for now.
I pulled my head out of the tent and saw most of the food cans broken
and scratched.
-Fast. We have to take our things and go- I said gathering all our things
around.
Diane also helped me. She took some leftover food cans, pots and
dishes and also helped me to fold the tent.
Everything was ready.
Rapidly, we walked out of that place but the horror didn’t stop.
7. -Andrew, I heard the bear’s steps. - Her face went pale. – Should we run
or lie down and pretend to be dead?-
-Place the food bag in the ground, but carefully, without sound…- I said
whispering.
She did that and I placed the other bags in the ground too, I only kept
our geology tools. Then we heard the leaves rustling.
-RUN!!!- I shouted and took my wife by her hand.
As we ran, the bear’s footsteps became louder but they suddenly
stopped. I think that the big creature found the bags with food.
We continued running.
-There! - Diane cried pointing to a cavern.
We stopped at the moment we entered into the cavern. It was very
dark.
I took my flashlight from the pocket of my jacket and illuminated the
cave. My wife did the same.
It was very obvious but as both of us was scared; we did not notice that
we were on one of the caves we were looking for. YES!! We made ir!! In
less than a week!
-I can’t believe this! I can’t believe this! YES!! YES!!! YES!! Andrew!!- Diane
gave me a big hug.
After having completely researched the place, I called to the university
so they could send more people to help with the research.
I had accomplished some of my most important life goals and I won’t
stop, I want to continue, I WILL continue giving the best of me, working
hard and at the end, enjoying the happiness of life.
