This document summarizes a workshop on escaping from Earth presented at the PMI EMEA Congress 2018. The workshop aims to illustrate the differences between waterfall and adaptive planning approaches through a board game where participants work together to build a starship within time and budget constraints. The game can be played in either a classic or agile format. In the classic format, teams take turns executing phases and managing risks. In the agile format, teams work in sprints to develop user stories, negotiate increments, and track progress using story points. The workshop is designed to take 2.5 hours and compare traditional and agile project approaches through an engaging simulated mission.

5. The story
• The year is 2117. Earth is in danger….
• The planet became hostile to human life some years ago, and
scientists believe that in a few years it will no longer be inhabitable.
• The future of humanity is therefore at stake. The only option is to
leave Earth in search of somewhere else that will accommodate the
human race and other species.
