3. El papel es un material compuesto por celulosa que se
transforma en pasta en procesos mecánicos o
químicos. Dependiendo del proceso a que se someta,
se da origen a distintos tipos de papel, como por
ejemplo para escribir, dibujar, imprimir y envolver, entre
otros.
¿ Que es el papel ?
4. La fabricación del papel se realiza en una
máquina papelera, la que está constituida
por una tela sin fin que gira a gran velocidad,
accionada por un conjunto de rodillos
mecánicos. Sobre esta tela cae una mezcla
de fibras que forman una capa que pasa por
rodillos que la succionan y la secan, dando
forma al papel. Luego éste se rebobina y
almacena.

5. La madera es obtenida en forma
sustentable de los bosques cultivados del
país y trasladados en camiones a la
fábrica de celulosa, donde se depositan en
el sector industrial para su elaboración
posterior.

6. Los trozos de madera que provienen de
los bosques cosechados, entran a la
fábrica para sacarles la cáscara y la
corteza.

7. Luego es picada en pequeñas partes o
astillas por una máquina llamada
chipiadora y se acumula en grandes
pilas a la espera de ser utilizadas.

8. Las astillas son sumergidas a alta temperatura (130 y 179
grados Celsius) en un licor compuesto de agua y otros
productos químicos, sulfitos y soda cáustica para separar las
fibras de la madera y obtener pasta de celulosa.
Aquí también se obtienen lignina y hemicelulosa, sustancias
que se reciclan y se aprovechan en otras partes del proceso.

9. La pasta de celulosa es depositada en otros
tambores donde se agregan productos
químicos para blanquearlas, tales como
dióxido de cloro, oxígeno, peróxido, y soda
cáustica. Esto permitirá tener un papel más
blanco, según el tipo de producto que
quiera el fabricante.

La celulosa blanqueada es pasada por una
cinta transportadora que pasa por unos
rodillos con calor para secarlas.
11. Una vez seca, la celulosa es almacenada en
paquetes para su posterior transporte a las
fábricas de papel.

12. La cantidad de tipos de papel que se fabrica
es muy variada y depende de la utilización a
que se destine. Desde el punto de vista
puramente técnico se suelen clasificar en:
papeles finos, de pasta de trapos, a la que
también se le pueden añadir celulosa;
papeles semifinos, preferentemente a base
de celulosa y papeles ordinarios, en los que
prevalece la pasta de madera mecánica.
Estos tipos pueden ir sin encolar,
semiencolados y a toda cola.

13. Es muy resistente, por lo que se utiliza para la
elaboración de papel tissue, papel para bolsas,
sacos multicapas y papel para envolturas,
asimismo, es base de laminaciones con aluminio,
plástico y otros materiales.

14. Resistente a la humedad así como a las
grasas y a los aceites. Es utilizado para
envolver mantequilla, margarina, carnes,
quesos, etcétera. Así como para envasar
aves y pescados. También se utiliza para
envolver plata y metales pulidos

15. Estos papeles son muy densos y tienen un
alto grado de resistencia al paso de las
grasas y los aceites. Este papel es
translúcido y calandrado logrando una
superficie con acabado plano; puede
hacerse opaco adicionando pigmentos,
también puede encerarse laquearse y
laminarse con otros materiales

16. Este es un tipo de papel cuyas
características de suavidad, elasticidad y
absorción responden a las necesidades
provenientes del uso doméstico y
sanitario.

17. Brindan una buena protección a los
líquidos y vapores . Se utilizan mucho
para envases de alimentos, especialmente
repostería y cereales secos, también para
la industria de los congelados y para
varios tipos de envases industriales

18. La importancia ambiental de todo el proceso de
reciclaje es muy evidente, ya que los papeles y
cartones usados se aprovechan como materia prima
en la industria papelera.
De no ser así, se convertirían en desperdicios
urbanos, lo que obligaría a construir nuevos
vertederos sanitarios en las ciudades. Por otra parte,
el aprovechamiento de los papeles y cartones usados
para fabricar nuevos productos permite un
considerable ahorro de materia prima, aspecto que
favorece los sistemas de fabricación de productos de
papel con fibra reciclada.
