Vemos a Santi con una pelota de fútbol mientras espera el autobús.
Santi: ¡Algún día seré el mejor futbolista del mundo! ¡Ya lo creo que sí! Ahora que
nadie me ve, voy a practicar mi superchute supersecreto. Pone la pelota en el
suelo y se dispone a chutar.
Santi: Ya lo estoy viendo (habla como un locutor). El estadio está lleno a rebosar.
Después de un partido genial hemos llegado a la tanda de penaltis. El gran
Santi se dispone a chutar. ¡Este gol puede ser decisivo! Se prepara, mira a la
portería, todo el estadio grita su nombre: Saaaantiiii, Saaaaantiiii… Coge
carrerilla y…
Marta: ¡Hola, Santi! (Le da un susto por la espalda.)
Santi: ¡Aaaaaaaahhh!
Marta: Ja, ja, ja... ¡Es tan fácil asustarte! Siempre tienes la cabeza en otro sitio.
¿Qué haces?
Santi: Pues mira, estaba a punto de meter el gol del siglo.
Marta: ¿Ah, sí? ¿Y quién es el portero? (Mira hacia el lateral.) Porque a mí me
parece que aquella paloma está muerta.
Santi: ¡No, hombre, no! Sólo entrenaba mientras espero el autobús, ¡pero algún día
marcaré el gol del siglo! Te lo juro. ¿Y tú? ¿De dónde vienes?
Marta: De casa de Paula, de hacer el trabajo de inglés. ¿Tú de qué lo has hecho?
Santi: ¿Yo? Eeeeehh... De fútbol, claro. ¿De qué lo iba a hacer si no?
Marta: ¿De fútbol? Pero si la profe nos dijo que podíamos escoger entre
una película o una canción…
Santi: Sí. Eeeehh… es que lo he hecho de una película que va de fútbol.
Marta: ¿Ah, sí? ¿Y cómo se llama la peli?
Santi: ¡Beckham y los siete enanitos! ¡Ja, ja, jaaaaaa!
Marta: Mira que eres tonto cuando quieres. O sea, que no lo has hecho, ¿no?
Santi: Qué va, tía. ¡Yo paso! Total, el inglés no sirve para nada. ¿Dónde has visto
un futbolista que hable inglés?
Marta: Pues Beckham, por ejemplo.
Santi: ¡Pero éste no cuenta porque es de “inglishlandia”!
Marta: Se llama Inglaterra.

Santi: Bueno, como se llame. Pero aparte de los futbolistas ingleses, cuántos más
hablan inglés, ¿eh?
Marta: Todos hablan inglés. ¿No ves que se pasan el día viajando por todo el
mundo?
Santi: ¿Y esto qué tiene que ver?
Marta: El inglés es el idioma con el que se comunican todas las personas que
hablan idiomas diferentes. Si sabes inglés puedes hacer que te entiendan en
todo el mundo.
Santi: ¿Ah, sí? ¡Pues qué asco! Cuando sea un futbolista famoso haré que el idioma
oficial del mundo sea el castellano.
Marta: ¡Lo que eres es un perezoso! Nunca haces los deberes, pasas de todo. Hay
cosas más importantes que el fútbol. ¿Y si te ficha un equipo inglés?
Santi: Pasaré de ellos. Odio Inglaterra y a todos los ingleses. No pienso ir nunca
allí. Y paso de hacer el trabajo. Le diré a la teacher que se lo ha comido mi
perro.
Marta: Santi, algún día te arrepentirás de esto. Mira, por allí viene tu autobús.
¡Hasta mañana!
Santi: Pero antes mira mi superchute, a ver qué te parece. El gran Santi se
prepara, apunta, chuta yyyyy… (Tira la pelota fuera de escena. Oímos ruido
de cristales rotos.) Ostras… creo que me iré andando… Hasta mañana (se
va corriendo).
Voz en off: Malditos niñatos… ¡Como os coja os vais a enterar!
Marta: ¡Lo siento, ha sido sin querer! ¡Santi, no me dejes! (Corre detrás de Santi.)
Santi llega a casa, su madre le espera sentada con unos papeles en las manos.
Madre: Hola, hijo. Has llegado tarde… No habrás ido a jugar a fútbol
¿verdad?
Santi: Noooooo. He estado en la biblioteca. Haciendo… un trabajo de inglés.
Madre: Pues mira, precisamente de esto te quería hablar.
Santi: ¿Del trabajo?
Madre: No exactamente. Mira hijo, ya sabes que en el trabajo últimamente
he tenido algunos problemas.
Santi: Sí, lo de los ingleses que querían comprar vuestra marca de ropa
¿no?
Madre: Sí.
Santi: Si es que los ingleses son una plaga, siempre están en todas partes.

Madre: Santi escúchame y no te quejes. Al final los ingleses se han salido con la
suya, han comprado nuestra empresa.
Santi: ¡Qué mal nacidos!
Madre: ¡Santi! ¡No digas palabrotas! Se ve que están contentos con mi trabajo y
me han ofrecido un puesto como diseñadora en su estudio, en Londres. Es lo
que siempre había deseado. Y además me pagan el doble de lo que me
pagaban aquí. ¿Te lo imaginas? ¡Tengo la oportunidad de trabajar con
algunos de los mejores diseñadores! Pero nos tenemos que mudar a Londres,
mañana mismo.
Santi: Supongo que les has dicho que no, ¿verdad?
Madre: No, hijo. Les he dicho que sí.
Santi: ¡Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!
Ruido de pesadilla, luces, paranoia. Santi y su madre están en el avión. Oímos la
voz del piloto en inglés y castellano.
Voz en off: Passengers, please pay attention. In a few minutes we’ll be landing in
London. I hope you have enjoyed your flight. The temperature outside is of 6
degrees centigrade.
Santi: Mamá, por favor, volvamos a casa, seguro que encontrarás un buen trabajo.
Madre: Ya lo hemos hablado, Santi, y no puede ser. A veces las cosas no salen
siempre como queremos. Entiéndeme, hijo. De momento estaremos en casa
de mi prima Laura y su marido, George.
Santi: ¿Los que venían a casa por Navidades, aquellos que tienen una hija de mi
edad?
Madre: Sí, Dorothy. Tengo ganas de verles. Desde que se fueron a Londres no nos
hemos visto más. Ay… cómo pasa el tiempo... Dorothy debe de haber crecido
mucho, no sé si la conoceré.
Santi: Seguro que debe medir 5 metros y le han salido 4 piernas y 4 brazos. Y
cuando abre la boca apesta a pescado podrido…
Madre: Santi, ya está bien. Es tu familia. Con el tiempo te acostumbrarás. Londres
es una ciudad preciosa.
Santi: ¿Tiene playa?
Madre: No, eso no. Pero tiene muchas cosas interesantes…

Hostess: Please, we’ll be landing in a moment. You must fasten your seat belts.
Madre: Of course, don’t worry.
Santi: ¿Qué ha dicho?
Madre: Que nos abrochemos el cinturón. Estamos llegando.
Santi: Qué asco.
Ruido de aviones. Santi en medio del escenario, que es el aeropuerto. Está lleno de
gente arriba y abajo. Caos.

Salen del escenario y llegan a casa.

Es el primer día de escuela de Santi, tiene miedo, espera a la chica en la puerta.

Santi: ¡School? Yo no quiero ir a la school. No voy a entender nada y todos se
reirán de mí.

Sue y Santi se miran y se enamoran.

que tengo que hacer para ir al colegio. A ver, en la mochila llevo un
diccionario. A ver si lo puedo traducir. (Va traduciendo la frase en voz alta
mientras va caminando pero no hay manera de entenderlo. Se ha perdido.)
Vaya, creo que me he perdido. Sólo me faltaba esto. Llamaré a mi madre al
trabajo.
Llama y oímos la voz de la recepcionista de la empresa.
Voz en off: Good morning. Monroe and associates. How can I help you?
Santi: Buenos días, quiero hablar con mi madre. Mother… su name is…
Voz en off: I’m sorry but I don’t understand. Can you speak in English please?
Santi: ¿In English? A ver… My mother is Teresa Puig. ¿Is here?
Voz en off: Oh Teresa has just gone to do some affairs. Do you want me to tell her
to phone you when she arrives?
Santi: No la entiendo. I don’t understand. Sólo quiero hablar con Teresa Puig.
Voz en off: I don’t understand you. When she gets here I’ll tell her to phone you.
Santi: Me ha colgado, la tía. ¡Qué cara! Yo perdido por las calles de Londres y ella
pasa de mí. Los ingleses están locos.
Aparece Sue, que le está buscando.
Sue: Hey Santi. I was looking for you.
Santi: Sue! (Se deja caer a sus pies.) Thank you, thank you, thank you.
Sue: I regret having left you all alone in the street. Dorothy is a nice girl and a
good friend, but she is a bit drastic sometimes. You don’t understand a word
I’m saying, am I wrong?
Santi: (La mira embobado.) You are very beautiful!

Salen del escenario.
El primer día ya ha pasado. Estamos en casa de los chicos. Santi chatea con su
amigo Sergio. Dorothy está haciendo los deberes.

Sergio: ¿Qué, cómo ha ido tu primer día en la english school?
Santi: Calla, calla, ni me hables. Ha sido patético, todo el mundo se ha reído de mí,
encima mi encantadora primita me ha abandonado al salir de casa.
Sergio: Pues qué maja, la primita.
Dorothy: Hey! I can hear you!
Sergio: Podrías haberme dicho que nos oía. Hi, my name’s Sergio and I am Santi’s
best friend. And you are..?
Dorothy: Oh! You speak in English! I thought all of Santi’s friends would be the
same as him, Oh! I’m sorry, I’m Dorothy. Nice to meet you.
Sergio: Come near to the webcam, so that I can see your face.
Dorothy: (Se acerca a la cámara y saluda.) Hi!
Santi: Qué, ahora hablareis en inglés para que yo no os entienda, ¿no? Pues

escuché que anunciaban el partido entre el Manchester y el Liverpool de
esta noche. Tú lo vas a ver, ¿no?
Sergio: Pero si el partido lo jugaron ayer por la noche. No debiste entenderlo bien.
Partidazo del Manchester nene, ganaron 5 a 2 con.
Santi: ¿Ayer por la noche? Pero si en el aeropuerto dijeron tonight. Tonight quiere
decir mañana, ¿no? Es decir hoy.
Sergio: No, Santi. Tonight quiere decir esta noche, o sea ayer. ¡Tío eres un
desastre y de los gordos!
Santi: ¡Aaaaaaaaahhh! ¡Qué rabia!
Llaman al timbre.
Dorothy: That must be Sue; she’s coming to do some homework. I’m going to open
the door. Hello Sue, come in, come in.
Sue: Hi Dorothy. Hi, Santi. I’ve been at the library; I already have all the books we
need.
Dorothy: Then let’s go to the kitchen, you’ll help me prepare some tea and
afterwards we’ll start our work.
Sue: See you, Santi.

Santi: Esta chica que acaba de llegar es Sue. Mi salvadora. Si no llega a ser por
ella, esta mañana me hubiera pasado cualquier cosa por las calles de
Londres. Es muy guapa y creo que le gusto, cuando venga te la presentaré,
pero antes necesito que me digas cuatro cosas en inglés para que pueda
hablar con ella.
Sergio: Ay, que te has enamorado.
Santi: ¡Qué va!, ¿qué dices? Sólo quiero que seamos amigos.
Sergio: Sí, sí. Vamos a ver, para empezar podrías preguntarle por su familia, si
tiene hermanos, en qué trabajan sus padres, no sé, cosas así, a ver, toma
nota: Hey Sue, how are you? Have you got any brothers or sisters? Are they
younger or older than you? And what do your parents do? Y después la
puedes invitar al cine. Apunta: I was thinking that maybe tomorrow afternoon
we could go to the cinema.
Entran Sue y Dorothy con la merienda.
Sue: Here you are Santi; I’ve prepared you a sandwich.
Sergio: Hi, you must be Sue?
Sue: And who are you?
Santi: He is Sergio. He is my friend.
Sue: Ah, hi Sergio, we haven’t prepared a sandwich for you because we can’t send
it by e-mail.
(Todos ríen.)

Los chicos siguen chateando y pasándoselo bien. Mientras, Santi deambula por la
calle, solo y triste.
Santi: Todo esto es muy frustrante. No entiendo nada de nada. No sé si me
preguntan cosas o se burlan de mí. Tengo la sensación de que todo el mundo
es mejor que yo sólo porque habla inglés.
Entra la madre, que viene de comprar.
Madre: Santi, hijo, ¿qué haces aquí solo?
Santi: Nada. Sólo he salido para que me diera un poco el aire.
Madre: (Lo mira de cerca.) ¿Has llorado? Hijo, ¿qué te pasa? Confía en tu madre…
Santi: Estoy bien, lo que pasa es que antes me ha entrado algo en el ojo y…
Madre: Mira, Santi. Si quieres decirme que te ha entrado una cosa en el ojo, no
pasa nada. Pero yo te conozco, Santi, y sé que no estás bien. ¿Por qué no me
explicas lo que te pasa?
Santi: Es que me siento solo, mamá. Nadie me entiende y Dorothy que es la única
que me entiende, no quiere hablarme en castellano.
Madre: En parte es mi culpa. Le pedí a Dorothy que te ayudara con el idioma.
Supongo que habrá pensado que hablarte solo en inglés podría ser una buena
manera de ayudarte. ¡Si te hubieras aplicado en las clases de inglés en
Barcelona, ahora no tendrías este problema!
Santi: Y si tú no hubieras venido a trabajar aquí, tampoco lo tendría.
Madre: Santi. Esto ya lo hemos hablado. Ahora que lo pienso, el sistema de
Dorothy es bastante bueno. Mira, haremos una cosa. A partir de ahora sólo

hablaremos en inglés. Seguro que ya empiezas a entender algo, ¿no?
Santi: Muy poco.
Madre: Mira, cada día, cuando llegue del trabajo, te ayudaré con el vocabulario y
hablaré con tu profesora para que te ponga deberes especiales. Ya verás
cómo entre los dos lo conseguiremos, hijo. Pero tendrás que prometerme
que, durante una semana, sólo hablarás en inglés. Y si hay algo que no
entiendas te lo apuntas en un papel y yo te ayudaré a traducirlo. ¿Entendido?
Santi: ¿Y estás segura de que esto funcionará?
Madre: Si te esfuerzas de verdad, sí. ¿Qué me dices? ¿Te esforzarás? Si me lo
prometes te apuntare a una escuela de fútbol. ¿Qué te parece, me lo
prometes?
Santi: Te lo prometo.

Los dos se abrazan. Entra Sue, los ve y se enfada.
Sue: Santi! (Santi esconde a Dorothy detrás de él.) Dorothy has told me you were
ill. I’ve gone to your house and your mother has told me you had gone to the
cinema. Who’s this girl?!! (Dorothy sale de detrás de Santi.)
Dorothy I can’t believe it! You’ve both lied to me!
Santi: No Sue, it’s not what you’re thinking...

Santi: Please, Sue… (Sue le empuja para irse.)

prometo que aprenderé inglés y se lo explicaré todo. Tengo que hacerlo yo.

Vemos cómo pasan los días, con un juego de luces iremos viendo escenas de Santi
estudiando, solo y con Dorothy, escenas de Sue pasando de los dos en diferentes
momentos y también alguna escena cómica de Santi jugando a la pelota en la que
Dorothy le reprende por no estudiar. También alguna escena de Dorothy
preocupada, chateando con Sergio. Cuando la escena termina, vemos a Santi y
Dorothy estudiando.
Dorothy: Let’s see, now translate this phrase: Cada vez que Santi come espaguetis
se ensucia la camiseta. Jajajajajaja.
