Conclusiones
Mission: The CBI contributes to sustainable economic developmen t in developing countries through the expansion of exports from these countries Vision: The CBI is THE expert in export development and export promotion from developing countries. * We have a solid network of international stakeholders * Our contribution consists of sustainable strengthening of the competitive capacity of SME (Small Medium sized Enterprises) exporters and producers in developing countries, focusing primarily on European markets. * We achieve this by offering an integrated approach, which is applicable to companies, business support organisations and governmental authorities. * Our core competence is threefold: advice, counselling and knowledge management. * Our guiding principle is social responsibility in business operations.
Appropriately based in Rotterdam, Europe ’ s largest harbour and the bustling gateway to the Continent ’ s vast surface-based logistics network, the CBI has 60 employees at its Head Office and a powerful global network of around 250 experts, representing more than 40 nationalities. The CBI was established by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands and became an agency in 1998.
CBI ’ s work is focused on certain a part of a larger whole that makes up a country ’ s economic system, enabling developing countries to benefit from the opportunities of export as a driver for economic development. This way the CBI contributes to two millennium goals (1 and 8). 1: Eradicate extreme poverty and hunger 8: Develop a global partnership for development Explanation boxes: CBI and the export chain: CBI stimulates the export from developing countries to Europe Exports Growth: Employment increase. More jobs are created. Income increase: More money will be earned, more people spend more money stimulus for economies Revenu increase: Tax system can be set up. Governments of developing countries gain more revenues from taxes Investments increase: These governments invest more in and the country attracts more FDI (Foreign Direct Investment) Economic development: This continuous trend makes countries economically more stable
Exporters: Companies are eligible for our services if they have the capacity, the commitment and the endurance to become a long-term player on the European markets. Participating in our programmes requires that they are willing and able to make any adaptation necessary within their company to successfully market their products in Europe. Business support organisations: A BSO joins forces with the CBI, when they are result-oriented, an unyielding advocate of the private sector, and capable of swiftly and effectively mobilising their client base. Importers: There is a huge potential in offshore outsourcing of production and buying products from developing countries. For an importer finding a partner in a low-cost country can mean; competitive pricing, reducing production cost, increase of their capacity or expand of their total production. Policy makers: ...in developing countries: A policy maker in a developing country, would naturally want to cultivate a favourable climate that improves and promotes exports, without unnecessary barriers. We offer an advice package to help boost exports. ..in Europe: International cooperation today is not only a matter of altruism. We are each other ’ s markets. Aimed specifically at policy makers in Europe, the CBI has developed a Policy Intelligence service. It delivers practical information from the field, giving them insight into the impact of their policies in developing countries, and assists with formulating policies that remove barriers to fair trade.
ECP Modules : Five modules designed to help exporters compete on European markets: Business audit and action plan, Business development, Export capacity building, Certification, Market access Europe / regional BSOD Modules: Aimed to assist BSO to assess competencies and instruments, devise strategy and set up operational business plans, determine the feasibility of predetermined targets, and how to meet them in practice: Diagnosis and intervention design, BSO Export Intelligence, Export development and export promotion MI Modules: Aimed at companies and organisations wishing to identify market opportunities, keep up with the latest European trends and/or need insight into EU legal requirements. HRD Modules: modules aimed at creating knowledge, developing skills and attitude coaching for SMEs and BSOs staff members
CBI closely monitors developments in more than 30 European markets within four sectors (agricultural, industrial, consumer and services). For an up to date overview visit www.cbi.eu/sectors
