15. Cada Segundo de paradas NO planeadas
cuestan dinero
US$20 billones ó 5% de producción anual
Perdidos en paradas no planeadas y pobre calidad en la industria de proceso
a nivel global
*Estimación ARC Advisory Group
16. Alta Disponibilidad
Dónde se utiliza?
– Grúas
– Turbinas

We wanted to get back in front of you and keep talking about our high availability system because we’re excited about the benefits it brings to customers.
Think about it: $20 billion dollars or 5% of production is lost to unscheduled downtime and poor quality worldwide in the process industries each year. And we’ve got something that can fix that…
Our new high availability system. So, let’s make sure we’re clear on what exactly it is that we are talking about. A high availability system is designed to prevent a system from not functioning. It is FAULT tolerant -- meaning a system defect should never make the difference between uptime and downtime.
This is more than redundancy. High availability by its very definition provides for the ability to troubleshoot, fix, or edit the system without stopping it. So, potential customers not using redundancy today but who may edit or update their systems periodically could avoid the cost of that downtime for the price of a single extra controller. And the new PROFINET high availability system is much more user friendly so we’ve reduced the cost and complexity that would normally be associated with a redundant control system.
Because of that we also believe the new high availability architecture is a fit for a range of mission critical applications. When we see mission critical these days, we’re talking about essential functions across a number of industries including our traditional focus on backup power and critical cooling, but also applications in everything from transportation to mining.
Industry examples
How to have the conversation
How long are you down
Explain that we are talking about a cost effective solution – can migrate simplex to redundant
Not just financial costs
High Availability type of applications
Goal: Eliminate Downtime
Prevents a system from not functioning (fault tolerant)
Application: A system defect should never make the difference between uptime and downtime
Safety type of applications
Goal: Eliminate Dangerous Situations
Prevents a system from malfunctioning (fail safe)
Application: A system defect should never make the difference between a safe and a dangerous situation
Being challenged by our leaders to keep the value prop simple – and we don’t need to reinvent the wheel with this one. The PROFINET System Redundancy delivers on that maximum uptime promise for customers with flexibility and the intelligence you’d expect from GEIP. And it does this with a lower total cost of ownership – so eliminating extra parts and engineering time to get and keep the system up and running. High performance through ease of connectivity. Let’s take a look at that on the next slide.
See the challenges that they face – the things that they want the system to do. PNSR helps them do it not cheaply but better – easier and faster – less human operator error???
Offering value
Two or three sentences
What we do – link offering capability and value realization
Audience: Technical buyers at OEMs – controls engineers
Need: Ensure uptime of their equipment or customer’s equipment
Assertion: best-in-class high availability
Outcome: reduce the cost and complexity in ensuring uptime
Distinction:
Fewer Network Components to Purchase, Install, & Maintain
Less Network Cable to Install
More Remote IO Rack Supported per HSB CPU
More Available IO Slots per Remote IO Rack
Single Point of Connect for Configuration
PACSystems with PROFINET components have built-in support for fiber optic media and support for MRP media redundancy. In order to implement two fiber optic network connections between HSB CPUs and each Remote IO node, the following additional equipment must be purchased, installed, configured, and maintained: 2 Ethernet network switches with fiber optic support, 4 media converters at the HSB CPUs, and 2 media converters per Remote IO Rack
For the cost of a single cable from the last Remote IO Rack back to the CPU, PROFINET Provides full media redundancy. In the EGD implementation, the network must be completely duplicated to get media redundancy.
PACSystems High Availability with PROFINET supports up to 128 Remote IO Racks compared with 32 for EGD.
The RX3i PROFINET Scanner module takes up only one slot in the Remote IO Rack. The RX3i EGD NIU takes up four slots of the Remote IO Rack.
Configuration for the entire PROFINET IO Network takes place at the CPU. Each RX3i EGD NIU must be configured individually.
Built-in 4-port switches, support for QoS, and gigabit communications speeds, and IO update rates as fast as 1 ms make the PACSystems PROFINET IO solution the highest performance IO network in the industry. EGD NIUs provide 100 Mb network interfaces only.
PACSystems High Availability with PROFINET is hands-down the easiest-to-use, highest-performance High Availability architecture available today.
REASONS TO USE EGD TODAY:
Customer insists on two separate parallel networks
Customer requires communications modules like PBM, CMM, DNM, etc.
Customer requires SoE support
B: lightweight protocol, easy, allows for monitoring of many assets for the end user without having to have a separate dedicated protocol. Enabling Big Data at the customer site. Information can be seen on the same dashboard of many other devices on the SNMP manager. IIOT!
Ex: Customer monitoring printers etc in the facility and need the data easily
Before VNC, we were using TargetViewer which could only be run on a laptop. With a VNC client you can access any VNC server (QP+)
Within the Engineering Workstation, the Process System Logic Developer is where you create your control strategies. It provides a flexible choice of languages for programming the controllers.
It supports Function Block Diagrams, Ladder, and Structured Text.
The user can select the language of their choice.
A key competitive differentiator of Proficy Process Systems is that the PACSystem controllers allow for multiple languages and multiple types of control. You can do process, discrete, or even motion applications all in the same controller at the same time.
In addition to the library of function blocks provided, and attesting to the openness and freedom provided in the system, you can create and define your own function blocks using Structured Text. This allows you to take your own specific knowledge and embed it as a reusable component in the system. Integrators and OEMs love this feature as it allows them to lock their intellectual property in function blocks that their customers can then easily use.
In addition to Function Block Diagrams, the Logic Developer also supports IEC languages such as structured text (ST) and standard ladder logic for (high-speed) discrete applications like packaging.
The Logic Developer supports function block diagram programming. It comes with a Comprehensive Function Block Library that includes over 140 function blocks and over 30 regulatory function block controls. With these function blocks you can tackle most common control applications. If you need more flexibility, you can create your own blocks, as we will describe later.
We’ll go through some examples of these in the next slides.
Proficy Process Systems Provides an Advanced PID block.
The ADV_PID block consists of both of Feedback Control and Feed Forward Control.
Feedback Control – feedback control works to eliminate error.
Feed Forward Control – sense disturbances and take compensating action before a disturbance has an effect on the loop. Feedforward control works to prevent errors from occurring in the first place.
It also supports adaptive tuning where you can change the setpoint into the PID.
The external reset capabilities of the advanced PID can be use to prevent what is know as integral wind-up where the block can be reset to help more quickly bring the process back into control.
Feedback Control = proportional + integral + derivative action or Feedback control = Kp + Ki + Kd.
- and -
Feed Forward Control = feed forward input FF + Controller output OP.
Kp - % change of output / % change of error
Ki - # of proportional repeat per minute
Kd - time in minutes ahead of the present time that the algorithm estimates the input process variable PV
You can cascade loops in Process Systems by taking the output from one PID block and use it as an input to a second PID block.
Cascade control normally involves two controllers and one process output. The controllers have a master and slave configuration. The output of the master controller is the setpoint of the slave controller and the slave controller manipulate the process output.
A typical application for cascade control is a process material tank with a stream jacket. The temperature of the process material inside the tank is maintained by controlling the amount of steam flowing through the tank jacket.
The master controller maintains the process material temperature and the slave controller maintains the flow of stream to the jacket. When the temperature setpoint changes for the process material, a new output from the master controller will feed into the slave controller and the slave controller will adjust the flow of steam in order to heat up or cool the temperature of the process material.
Master is slow acting.
Slave is fast acting.
Adaptive tuning
Allow control strategy to dynamically change the tuning parameters of an advanced PID block for non-linear process.
Adapt block
Scheduler block – schedule different set of PID tuning parameters based on the PV input parameter of the block
Process Systems also supports 2-State and 3-state device control for valves, pumps, etc.
The 2 state block controls and monitors a two-state device, for example, a pump, motor, or solenoid valve. On/Off, Open/Close
The states of the device are as follows.
State 0: The output OP is set to Off (de-energized state).
State 1: The output OP is set to On (energized state).
It provides automatic, manual, and maintenance modes. Build in alarm logic to monitor the health of the device.
The 3 state block controls and monitors a three-state device, for example, something with an on, off, or manual mode. Start/Forward/Reverse
Process systems provides you with your choice of languages. Executing a sequence of logic is something that is common in Ladder Logic programming. With Process Systems you can also do this with Function Block programming if you want. You have the freedom to do it your way. You can do it in Ladder, or you can do it in Function Blocks. Both languages will run in the controller at the same time.
Global Namespace is a very important feature of Proficy Process Systems.
It is what enables you to configure a point once and use it throughout your system.
The Global Namespace along with Ethernet Global Data (EGD) and Ethernet provides for common data communications for the system.
Ethernet Global Data is a technology that was developed by GE Energy and GE Fanuc to enable high speed, reliable communications between computer systems and controllers. Information is broadcasted on the Ethernet and received by all interested recipients.
When you use the Logic Developer to create your control logic, you are also creating a global namespace. When the point is created in the logic, it then becomes part of the Global Namespace and available to be referenced throughout the system, including in graphics or by the Historian.
This “configure once” aspect of the Proficy Process System greatly simplifies the creation, maintenance, and operation of your system and can cut development times by as much as 40% over traditional systems .
EGD server can be local to the Engineering Workstation, or it can be in a remote machine.
GE Fanuc is well known as an industry leader in HMI visualization technologies. Proficy Process Systems provides you with the latest, state of the art HMI technologies so you can create the screens and displays needed to allow operators to visualize and control what is happening in the process. You have the choice of leveraging either our CIMPLICITY or iFIX visualization technologies in your system with their full visualization power and capabilities.
Creating screens and displays in Process Systems is very easy. You can simply drag and drop faceplates onto the screens. Then, by selecting a function block defined in the Logic Developer all the points required by it are automatically instantiated to it.
This is powered by the Global Namespace that we mentioned earlier.
Drop a Totalize Dynamo. PPS will get all the Totalized blocks from the EGD Configuration Server.
/O Network (I/ONet)
The I/O network is a dedicated, full duplex, point-to-point protocol. It supports a deterministic, 100 MB communications network suitable for local and/or distributed I/O modules. In each frame, the online controllers read data from the input modules, write data to the output modules, and synchronize variables between controllers in a dual or TMR configuration. IOnet switches are a GE design, incorporating extreme environmental capability with superior performance.
Looking at Historians in general and how they fit within an integrated architecture to solve some of the business challenges just discussed...
At its most fundamental level, and this is true of any good Historian, not just our own - a Historian collects, archives, and distributes production information at very high speeds and in a very reliable & secure manner. It’s a product that benefits customers at all levels of an organization by giving them access to both historical and real-time information for better decision making.
Some key characteristics include:
The ability to interface directly with wide range of plant & process control devices via both standard protocols and more specific communication drivers
Ability to efficiently store large amounts of production data in a single repository - this translates into significant cost savings over time as you look at cost of owning and utilizing data, particularly at enterprise level…
Once aggregated in a common operational data store, a Historian provides visibility across the islands of information that can often exist in production environments, making its information easily available to a wide range of users and other applications
A good historian also acts as a safeguard for mission critical information by providing strong redundancy/high availability capabilities – critical in modern manufacturing to remain flexible and meet demand – and change control and audit trails for ensuring data governance & regulatory compliance.
Last, it provides open interfaces that allow layering on of applications & services, providing a platform for enhanced business functionality and services to end customers
