WELCOME TO FIESTA HOTEL GROUP!
Dear readers,
We would like to extend you a warm welcome and we thank you for choosing Fiesta Hotel
Group. We hope that you have an unforgettable vacation, wedding, honeymoon or event.
This year we have several exciting projects underway, including the opening of our first
resort in Brazil – the Grand Palladium Imbassaí Resort & Spa. Located in Salvador de
Bahía, this resort features the first class facilities that Palladium brand is known for. We’ve
also recently launched a brand new weddings website: www.palladiumweddings.com,
created specifically for a stress free destination wedding experience for couples.
Fiesta Hotel Group has also participated in several environmental initiatives and social
awareness actions. After the tragedy in Haiti, our Dominican Fiesta Hotel in Santo Domingo,
Dominican Republic, became a base for American citizens in Haiti who needed to return
to the United States. Collaborations with the U.N. and ambassadors allowed our hotel to
form part of this incredible display of humanity from people around the world. To raise en-vironmental
awareness, our Palladium Hotels & Resorts recently participated in the WWF
global initiative, “The Earth Hour,” turning off all unnecessary lights and energy for an hour.
At Fiesta Hotel Group, we’re proud to uphold strict environmental policies in order to do
our part in keeping our beautiful destinations sustainable.
In this issue you’ll find all of the latest information regarding Fiesta Hotel Group and our
new, exciting projects. For more detailed information on these topics and more, please

Beyond clubs and the stylish locales, there is a
unique Ibiza waiting to be discovered.
I biza has a singular effect on the senses. Simply step off your
airplane to notice it. Stop for a moment, close your eyes
and breathe in deeply. The aroma of the sea and saltwater
abounds, as does the fragrance of the island’s landscape,
full of herbs and aromatic plants and dotted with flowers.
Losing yourself among the tiny paths is without doubt the
surest way to connect with the authentic Ibiza.
Thousand year old olive trees, pine trees that stir in the
breeze, plains where blossoming almond trees shine in the
moonlight ... Ibiza is an island bathed in the intense Medi-terranean
light, where the traveller feels that time has stood
still and he or she is back experiencing the intense flavours
of childhood.
A walk through the maze of narrow streets in Dalt Vila,
mapped out by the city walls, takes the traveller back to the
Medieval and Renaissance periods. It was declared a World
Heritage Site in 1999, a distinction awarded by UNESCO -
an International recognition of the best preserved coastal
fortress in the Mediterranean.
The area classified as a World Heritage Site also includes
the neighbourhoods of la Marina, sa Penya and es Soto,
located outside of the walls, where adventurers and artists
from around the world have lived together for centuries.

Every season offers an unexpected, different
Ibiza to be discovered.
The search for a perfect sunset constitutes one of the most
beautiful attractions offered by nature in Ibiza. To watch the
sunset from the coast at ses Variades, in Sant Antoni, with
the background music of DJs is a universally recognized
phenomenon that has generated an authentic music industry
that makes Ibiza truly stand out.
In the sixties and seventies, Ibiza became a sanctuary for
the hippie movement. Hundreds of young people came to
the island from all over the world, with their dishevelled hair
and informal dress, ready to share Ibiza with the natives and
fishermen. The latter, true to the essential principle of island
society, “lived and let live”. Ibiza was the exception, the
utopia, one of the few enclaves in the world where freedom
was perceived as authentic.
Ibiza can be enjoyed in all four seasons. The island provides
constant culture and activities and boasts tourism facilities
for an unforgettable stay during any time of year.

Suntanned with confidence
una piel morena sin riesgos
Get a dazzling and healthy tan this summer
with these recommendations.
Atan is actually a defence mechanism of the skin, which is activated
by the ultraviolet radiation of the suns rays, in order to shield and
protect itself from them.
There are two types of tans depending on the speed of appearance:
• Immediate:
This tan is produced by the action of the UVA rays on the pre-exis-ting
melanin in the skin and the tone will vary depending on the
amount of pheomelanin and eumelanin (two types of melanin found
in your body) of each individual.
• Late
The UVB rays (stronger type of UV rays) activate melanocytes
located in the basal layer (the deepest layer) causing this type of
tan. These begin to produce melanosomes which carry melanin
to the epidermis. The amount of melanin produced is higher
than non-exposure conditions, in order to protect the skin. Late
tanning is visible about two or three weeks after exposure to
sunlight, this is the time it takes skin cells to make their way
from the hypodermis to the dermis.
Remember that increased pigmentation means increased
skin protection.

Tips for a safe tan
CONSEJOS PARA UN BRONCEADO SEGURO
1 Apply sunscreen before leaving home and reapply often,
especially after swimming.
2 Expose yourself progressively to the sun.
3 Always apply to children a very high protection sunscreen.
The greater is the radiation dose received during childhood,
the greater the risk of cancers in adulthood.
4 Do not forget to apply sunscreen when performing outdoor
activities. There is a high risk of sunburn.
5 Beware of false security: altitude, cloud cover or reflective
surfaces (snow, sand, grass, water, wind...)
6 Use a cap and sunglasses with approved lenses capable of
filtering out UVA and UVB rays. Children must also add a dry
and opaque shirt for extra protection; a wet t-shirt lets UV
rays through more easily.
7 Dry thoroughly after each swim. The magnifying glass effect of
water droplets favours sunburn and reduces the effectiveness of
sunscreens, even if they are water resistant.
8 Drink plenty of water frequently, because the sun dehydrates
your body. Keep a close eye on the elderly in particular, since
thirst is attenuated and on the children, whose need for water is
important and thermoregulation is still immature.
9 If you notice that a freckle or mole changes shape, size or color,
see your dermatologist.
reflectantes (nieve, arena, hierba, agua), viento…
o color consulta a tu dermatólogo.

How to correctly apply the sunscreen?
¿Cómo aplicar correctamente los fotoprotectores?
El modo de aplicación de cada fotoprotec-tor
viene especificado en sus respectivos
envases.
The correct way to apply each sunscreen
is specified in their respective containers.
In order to obtain the protection level indicated
on the packaging, it is necessary to apply the
appropriate amount of product:
50ml Tube: average of 7 doses (dosing tube) or
of product over the face and neck in adults.
100ml Tube: two fingers of product for each of
the zones 2-11.
200ml Spray: 6 sprays by the forearm of an

Unofficial palladium memories
recuerdos de unofficial palladium
On the www.UnofficialPalladium.com website,
member “Patrick from Belgium” created the
post, “How many times have you been to a
Palladium Resort?”
Anne Adams, founder of UnofficialPalladium.com, along
with some of the many members of her site share their
fondest vacation memories with Palladium Magazine readers.
Anne Adams: I began thinking back to my first trip to the
Palladium, Riviera Maya in 2003. Now, as I approach trip
#13, and will soon have slept at a Palladium for 100 nights, I
think back to some of my more memorable times there with
family and friends.
A highlight of most of my trips (when he is in Riviera Maya),
is sharing a coffee with Felipe Martinez Verde, manager
extraordinaire and friend. Felipe has the most marvelous
stories and an outstanding sense of humor. Felipe has had
me laughing so hard with his colorful tales that I cry.
In 2007 we met Louise & Keith from Canada. What a lovely
couple! We developed an immediate bond and have kept in
touch ever since. Louise and I often smile at the “shoe” story
that took place on this trip. “Shoes” are a popular subject
on UnofficialPalladium.com so I thought I’d share this: We
were all sitting in the Kantenah lobby, chatting and having
a cocktail when one of our favorite waitresses, Prudencia,
approached me. She admired my shoes and asked me if she
could have them. Taken a back for just a moment, I realized
she was serious and told her I would bring them to her on
my last night. Sure enough she was giddy when she saw me
on my last night with the shoes in a bag. I told if they fit they
were hers. They fit perfectly and her face lit up with the most
dazzling smile of appreciation. So I gave her a note indica-ting
they were a gift. That story always brings a smile when I
think of Prudencia’s happiness.
In 2009 Louise helped her son plan his Palladium wedding
through the forum and in 2010, Keith & Louise invited me to
the wedding at the White Sand which I graciously accepted.
(Trip #12 for me). What a special event!
Our 10th trip in April ’08 was especially poignant. Our
daughter was in Spain. My husband Rios was not well but
encouraged me to keep our plans. The resort was extremely
kind and arranged an outstanding Mayan suite for us. I now
know that this was my Rios’ parting gift to me as he passed
away shortly after we returned. The Palladium will always
hold a special place in my heart.
Over the years I have made so many dear friends at the
Palladium and we keep in touch through the forum, living vi-cariously
through each other’s trips. One close friend is Kern.
Whom I’ll catch up with next week; they’re on their 9th trip.
I recall trip 9 or 10, my first trip to the Grand Palladium in
Jamaica. Not only was it a first to Jamaica but also a first trip
as a mother/daughter. I had some hesitation as my daughter
was 18 and I feared she’d be bored with her Mom. Not only did
she see and make friends with her favorite star from Gossip
Girls, Chase Crawford, but she begged me to stay longer
saying, “Mom I am SO not ready to leave”. And so we stayed...

zapatos y me preguntó si podía dárselos. Me quedé pensando
Esa historia siempre me hace

Palladium Punta Cana twice and Grand Palladium Lady
Hamilton once. This photo was taken in June 2009 as my
husband and I celebrated our 35th wedding anniversary with
our children. This spring and summer, we will be returning to
Grand Palladium Riveria Maya and Lady Hamilton. There’s
nowhere in the world we would rather be!!
Lin (lin7604): My most found memory of our 1st visit to the
Grand Palladium Riviera Resort & Spa in 2009, it was on
our 3rd night when we went to the mexican a la carte. The
waiters made it so much fun for our 2 year old, they were
quick in service and just a excellent experience altogether.
The waiter ( wish i remembered his name) offered to take a
family pic first for us and then brought my son a “apple juice
tequila shooter”..... he had so much fun....
Nancy (aka margaritalady) y Bernie: Hemos pasado

Some call Gaudí a great artist and others, a
great technician. Some people define him as a
transgressor but some defend his mysticism.
Everybody, however, coincides in affirming
that his buildings are surprising, different, and,
therefore, difficult to classify.
His constant interest in forms and solutions drawn from
nature stems from the way it adapts to its surroundings
and provides durable results. It led him to find imaginati-ve
and practical solutions such as the trencadis technique,
which was the only possible way of ensuring ceramics could
be applied to a curved surface. The technique involved
breaking tiles or glass into small shards and sticking them to
the desired surface. But trencadis was just one of Gaudi’s
many contributions to architecture.
In fact, his worldview is so distinctive and imaginative that
it doesn’t fit in with any artistic movement. His tireless work,
his passion for learning new things, for perfecting techni-ques,
for making better, more beautiful buildings, engende-red
such a personal and emotive universe that it can only be
summed up in one adjective: Gaudiesque.

has now reached a prominent position as a perfect alternati-ve

The history of the word “Cava” dates back to 1959. It was
the first time a legal document said that labels could include
the words “Grown or processed in CAVA”. This definition
served as the basis for designating the products’ name.
El Penedes is the region that has been built on the basis of
cava, an area that houses the domains of some families who,
thanks to the “sparkling gold,” have made his name famous
worldwide.
During the 20s, the Cava was con-solidated

Freixenet, a success story.
Freixenet is currently the world’s best selling brand
of cava and a point of reference for the wine indus-try.
Its origin dates back to 1889, when the founda-tion
of the company began in the XIII century estate
“La Freixeneda.” From the beginning they chose to
produce only cava; following the method used in
Champagne (France) for centuries. The casks were
installed in Sant Sadurni d’Anoia (Catalonia), a re-gion
known since the time of the Roman Empire
for the quality of the wines produced there.
The Spanish Civil War and later, World War
II slowed down the development of the com-pany.
Still, the company launched in 1941 what
eventually became one of its flagship products,
the cava Carta Nevada, and in 1974 the cava
Cordón Negro, a leading export.

How cava is made.
The main grape varieties used for the wine-making base of
cavas are, Macabeo, Parellada and Xarello; and in some
cases, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Subirat (Malvasia). In
the case of pink champagne the varieties used are mainly
Grenache, Trepat, Monastrell and Pinot Noir.
From these varieties of grapes and through pneumatic
presses, you get the grape juice. Once the grape juice is
filtered it’s moved to the fermentation tanks.
The first fermentation takes place in 600,000 litres stainless
steel tanks within a temperature controlled environment;
this is to avoid the loss of the most delicate aromas of
the wine. In these deposits the selected yeasts are grown,
which transform the sugar from the grape juice into wine.
The resulting base-wine is then put through another series of
processes. Having completed these, the base wine is ready
for the “Tiraje”.
The “Tiraje” is a mixture of base wine, sugar and yeast
selected; it is bottled and hermetically sealed for the time
being. The bottles in the cellars remain sheltered from the
light and in a horizontal position to facilitate the dispersal
of the yeasts and their contact with the wine. The bottles
remain in the cellars at least 9 months.
After going through further purifying processes, the bottle
is closed with the cork and enters the final labelling process.
In this final stage the dish, collar, label and back label are
added. Finally they are automatically packaged, leaving them
ready for distribution to restaurants, supermarkets, etc.
The TV ad of “Freixenet” has become a symbol of
Christmas, for several generations of spaniards. Many
celebrities of film, music and culture have participated
year after year. Paul Newman, Sharon Stone, Pierce
Brosnan, Ines Sastre and Gwyneth Paltrow
are just some of the stars to have lent
their image for the campaign.
El anuncio de “Freixenet” se ha con-vertido,
para varias generaciones de
españoles, en todo un símbolo de la
Navidad. Numerosas personalidades
Paul Newman, Sharon Stone, Pierce
Pinot Noir y Subirat (Malvasia).

repartición a restaurantes, supermercados, etc.

The architecture studio A-Cero led by Joaquín
Torres wins in Dubai with its urbanization project
called Nebula.
It’s been some years since Joaquin decided in 1996, along
with his classmates, to create the architecture studio
A-Cero (a reference to the large paper format) From the
start they established a philosophy of modern architectural
design inspired by the world art, especially sculpture, and
the great contemporary style architects. They soon achieved
a style and identity of their own that has remained loyal and
consistent throughout their career.
They recently won over the United Arab Emirates with their
residential project “Nebula”: 7 towers and 600,000 m2 of
pure art spread between apartments, shops and offices.
Joaquin is now facing one of his greatest challenges: to
become something more than an “architect to the stars” as
he is known in the media today. To this end, a rapid process
of internationalization has begun under his watch, handling
among other projects, the complete design of a residential
resort in the emblematic “The World” islands project. This is
perhaps the greatest technical and architectural challenge
of the century, where in the physiognomy of continents is
reproduced via artificial islands in the sea.
In total, the studio works on 6 islands that make up the
“Heart of Europe: Switzerland, Germany, Sweden, Russia
and the Netherlands. Over 500,000 m2 with a capacity for
housing estates, hotels, schools, buildings, conferences,
clubs... All this, of course, following the unique and charac-teristic
design of each country.
“The World”.
Holanda. Más de 500.000 m2 con capacidad para albergar
urbanizaciones, hoteles, colegios, edificios de congresos,
discotecas... Todo esto, por supuesto, siguiendo el diseño
exclusivo y característico de cada país.

40. “Fashion is fleeting and
I intend to keep on working
for a very long time”
Our biggest inspiration is found in anything that
excites us and the world of Art certainly does
just that.
¿Cómo definiría su trayectoria profesional?
From the sidelines it all looks easier, but it has been a hard and
bumpy road that we have solved with great enthusiasm and
lots of work. Everyday we try to move our company forward.
You are the architect in fashion at the moment...
I would think not. Fashion is fleeding, and I intend to keep on
working for a very long time.
Why are you regarded as the architect of choice for
soccer players?
All matters relating to soccer interest people and sell well...
We have done over 150 houses, and I think only about 5%
were for soccer players. It seems to be all that people want
to know about, it’s surprising, but that is how our current
society works now.
Could you reveal some anecdote or preference of some
of the famous personalities you have designed for?
Each client is a world of its own and we all have our quirks and
peculiarities. And what is a rarity for me can be very normal
for others... We have done all kinds of peculiar designs (gold
tiled swimming pools, safety vaults, indoor dance clubs ...)
What projects is the studio immersed in now?
The most relevant thing we’re doing now is modular architec-ture.
The design doesn’t necessarily have to be related with
an economic elite and it is with this belief we are bringing
to the market by designer houses that follow a constructi-ve
process that develops in the workshop, a sort of chain
assembly which reduces costs and time. It’s something
similar to what Henry Ford did with cars. The smaller house,
with 2 bedrooms, costs 69,000 euros. Three months after the
original commission, we deliver the fully assembled house
on site. It’s completely finished, decorated, etc ... and with
a much higher build quality than traditional construction,
because it’s all done in the workshop.
What is your next challenge?
Honestly what worries me most is to serve and make my
people, my family happy while at the same time keeping it
compatible with my work, which no doubt fuels my life ...
Without my architecture I wouldn’t know how to live.
efímero, y yo pretendo trabajar mucho, mucho tiempo.

are you a palladium addict? ¿eres un palladium addict?
Palladium Magazine recently had the op-portunity
to sit down with the site’s founder,
Brenda Fischl, for a look behind the scenes.
1) How did you design the new Palladium Addict site?
What suggestions and tips from members did you use
when re-formatting the site?
Brenda: This site is huge and has a very active community. We
have over 4,100 active registered users with over 750,000 hits a
month, all managed by a small administration team of 10 members,
4 additional forum moderators and two chat moderators.
The original site grew out of control, everyone trying to add
or update information with only one volunteer webmaster
to update it. With that kind of chaos, it was difficult to keep
things up-to-date and organized. The new site designed by
Mocoda focused on two things, usability for the visitors and
ease of updating for the administrators.
The design needed to be fun, like the personality of our
members! But at the same time, information needed to be
logically organized in a way that was easy to be found. New
menus and a search facility make it easy to find anything.
We also tested out new features for our members like the
translation tool. As the majority of the content on our site
is in English, it would be difficult for visitors with limited
English language skills to participate. The translation tool will
translate the website and the forum to any of the 52 languages
supported. This is a computer generated translation and it
isn’t perfect, so we tested it with the support of the forum
members and overwhelmingly requested to keep it and felt
that it was very helpful (even if the translated text isn’t perfect).
Another new feature, which was actually a surprise for the ad-ministration
team was the ticker! Mocoda built the ticker and
used our own images without telling my administration team
until the very last minute! It was hard to keep the surprise!
2) To create an entirely new site is a lot of work…did you
have a team behind you to help manage such a big change?
Yes, the design itself went through a number of revisions
over a number of months. Migrating the content from the old
site to the new one, happened over a few weeks. Kim from
Mocoda provided the training on the new site, myself, Debbie
and Kim undertook the task of manually moving and updating
the content. Once we got it to a “good enough” stage, over
a couple of hours late one night, Shayne my webmaster took
down the old and brought up the new site.

buena presencia y buen contenido, Shayne, mi webmaster

Then head over to your local Mercedes-Benz

season. Just one week after the official start of
spring, the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG has made
it´s showroom debut.
The Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG is expected to provide
additional momentum in 2010. “At the start of the long-awaited
spring season we will be offering two exciting dream
cars bearing the Mercedes star in the form of the SLS AMG
and the E-Class Cabriolet. The SLS has already enjoyed an
excellent response from our customers even before its market
launch, and orders have already exceeded our expectations
significantly”, according to Dr. Joachim Schmidt, board mem-ber
for Mercedes-Benz Cars, Sales and Marketing. Without a
doubt, its impressive retro design will be the envy of your fellow
drivers at every stop.
The new Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG embodies automotive ex-citement
and high-technology at the very highest level. Driving
dynamics of the highest order are guaranteed thanks to the
superlative combination of aluminium space frame body with
gull-wing doors, AMG 6.3-litre V8 front-mid engine developing
420 kW (571 hp) peak output, seven-speed double-declutch
transmission in a transaxle configuration, and also sports sus-pension
with aluminium double wishbones. The gull-wing ac-celerates
from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.8 seconds, before going on
to a top speed of 317 km/h (electronically limited). With a fuel
consumption of 13.2 litres per 100 kilometres (combined), the
SLS AMG is one of the best among its competitors.
Entonces dirígete a tu distribuidor Mercedes-Benz
