2. Adjectives
They designate qualities of the nouns
they accompany. Some adjectives can
be graduated to make comparisons.
Others, on the other hand, do not admit
any graduation and can only be used
absolutely. To do this, just add the
suffixes -er and -est to the adjectives of
up to two syllables, or add more or the
most to the adjective of two or more
syllables.
Adverbs
They qualify verbs or other adjectives or
adverbs. One way to form adverbs from
adjectives in English is to add the suffix -ly.
Adverbs also have a comparative and
superlative form that allows comparisons to
be made.

3. Adjetivos
Designan cualidades de los sustantivos
a los que acompañan. Algunos
adjetivos pueden graduarse para
establecer comparaciones. Otros, por el
contrario, no admiten ninguna
graduación y solo pueden usarse de
forma absoluta. Para ello, basta con
solo agregar los sufijos –er y –est a los
adjetivos de hasta dos silabas, o añadir
more o the most ante el adjetivo de dos
o mas silabas.
Adverbios
Califican verbos u otros adjetivos o
adverbios. Una manera de formar
adverbios a partir de adjetivos en inglés
es añadir el sufijo -ly. Los adverbios
también tienen una forma comparativa y
superlativa que permite establecer
comparaciones.

Donde se vinculan entre dos o mas elementos la
cualidad.

Se utiliza para destacar en un individuo o cosa, una

6. Comparative:
Where the quality is linked between two or more
elements.
*Inferiority.

Positive:
It is the simple form of the adjective or adverb.
* High / Intelligent.

Superlative:
It is used to highlight in an individual or thing, a characteristic
that differentiates it from the rest of the elements of its set.

7. Comparative Grade
Comparative adjectives are used when we
compare two people or things.
SUPERIORITY
The word "THAN" , is located
after the comparative.
Example:
• José is smarter than
Leonardo.
• José es mas inteligente que
Leonardo.
INFERIORITY
Preposing the word "LESS" , prior to
the long adjective.
Less + adjective.
Example:
Today spend less money on
purchases.
• Hoy gaste menos dinero en las
compras.
 Short adjectives (with a syllable) the ending "er" or "est" is added.
 Example: Small/ Smaller (pequeño).
 Short adjectives that end in «e» is added «r».
 Example: Wide/ Wider (Amplio/ Más amplio).
 Short adjectives that end in a vowel and a consonant, the consonant is doubled and "er" is
added.
 Example: Fat/ Fatter (Gordo/ Mas gordo).
 For short adjectives ending in "and" it is changed to "i" and the ending "er" is added.
 Example: Dry/ Drier (Seco, Secadora).
 Long adjectives with two or more syllables, "more" or "the most" is used, plus the original
adjective.

8. Grado Comparativo
Se usan los adjetivos comparativos cuando
comparamos dos personas o cosas.
SUPERIORIDAD
La palabra «THAN» (que), se
ubica después del
comparativo.
Example/ Ejemplo:
• José is smarter than
Leonardo.
• José es mas inteligente que
Leonardo.
INFERIORIDAD
Anteponiendo la palabra «LESS»
(menos), previo al adjetivo largo.
Less + adjetive.
Example/ Ejemplo:
• Today spend less money on
purchases.
• Hoy gaste menos dinero en las
compras.
 Adjetivos cortos (con una silaba) se le añade la terminación «er» o «est».
Example: Small/ Smaller (pequeño).
 Adjetivos cortos que terminan en «e» se le agrega «r».
Example: Wide/ Wider (Amplio/ Más amplio).
 Adjetivos cortos que terminan en una vocal y una consonante, se duplica la consonante y se le
agrega «er».
Example: Fat/ Fatter (Gordo/ Mas gordo).
 Para adjetivos cortos que terminan en «y» se cambia por «i» y se agrega la terminación «er».
Example: Dry/ Drier (Seco, Secadora).
 Adjetivos largos con dos o mas silabas, se utiliza «more» o «the most» mas el adjetivo original.
Example: More + adjetive.

9. Comparative Degree of Equality
The structure used to
compare adjectives in
affirmative sentences:

10. Grado Comparativo de Igualdad
La estructura utilizada para
comparar adjetivos en
oraciones afirmativas:
AS + ... + AS

Compare two elements in their maximum degree.
Highlights the quality of one element over others.

It is prefixed with the

and is characterized by not
giving importance to the
number of syllables.

 Esta casa es la menos

12. Grados Superlativos
Compara dos elementos en su grado máximo.
Destaca la cualidad de un elemento sobre los
demás.
SUPERIOR INFERI
OR
Se antepone al adjetivo
«THE LEAST» (menos), y
se caracteriza por no darle
importancia a la cantidad
de sílabas.
 This house is THE
LEAST comfortable.
 Esta casa es la menos
cómoda.

caracteriza por: el mas, la
mas, los mas.
 This car is the most

13.  Superlatives always use the word
"the" before the noun.
 It is formed by adding the suffix
"est" to the monosyllabic
adjectives or the disyllables
ending in y, er, le and ow.
 Andrea is the funniest person I
know.

 Luisa is the happiest girl I have
ever seen.

14.  Los superlativos siempre usan la
palabra "the" antes del
sustantivo.
 Se forma añadiendo el sufijo “est”
