Sales fue el primer producto comercial, incluso nos dio el nombre (Salesforce), pero no fue el primer producto en desarollarse. El primer producto fue la Plataforma. Y sobre esta platafroma se han ido desarrollando el resto de modulos, Sevices, Marketing, etc. Pero todos ellos comparten la misma plataforma. Y este es uno de los secreto del éxito de Salesforce. La integración de los diferentes productos. Y por eso decidimos dar acceso a esta plataforma para que los clientes y partners puedan crear sus propios desarrollos
Veamos algunas de las carácterísticas de la plataforma:
En primer lugar, es una solución Cloud. La más segura y con mayores prestaciones del mundo (3 Billons de transacciones por dia)
Multitenancy. Todos los clientes tienen la misma versión y calidad de servicio de la infraestructura. Es de decir, no hay clientes especiales o diferentes ”calidades” de servicio. Concepto como un bloque de apartamentos que tiene los mismos servicios (agua, gas, luz, etc.), pero cada propietarios amuebla y modifica cada apartamento a su gusto.
Metadatos. Esta es el verdadero secreto de Salesforce. El paradigma de desarrollo basado en Metadatos. Los desarrollos de los clientes son almacenados como metadatos que son interpretados por la plataforma. Esto permite que publiquemos 3 versiones al año y que aseguremos que las aplicaciones del cliente van a seguir funcionando en la nueva versión. Uno de nuestros clientes comenta que su mejor aplicación móvil la desarrollo mucho antes de que saliera el Iphoe. Simplemente cuando Saleforce soportó Iphone su aplicación se convirtió en movil, ya que interpreta los metadatos de la interfaz de usuario y los adapta a la pantalla de Iphoe. Lomismo para el iwatch,
Por el mero hecho de desarrollar sobre la plataforma hay muchas temas que me tengo que despreocupar a la hora de desarrollar, como por ejemplo, la escalabilidad, el balanceo de carga, la tolerancia a fallos, la identidad.
Además, por todo lo que desarrollemos sobre la plataforma, por defecto, va a tener un API para poder acceder a esas nuevas entidades. Voy a poder colaborar sobre esa entidad, creando directamente un hilo de colaboración (lo que nosotros llamamos chatter). Voy a poder generar un workflow sobre esa entidad, etc. Además, las aplicaciones que desarrolle ya son directamente móviles. También puede hacer Informes y Dashboards de esas entidades de forma automática. Además todos estos desarrollo se realizan con el ratón y en muchos casos, son los propios usuarios de negocio los que realizan las adaptaciones, dejando a IT las tareas más complejas o que requieran programación
Un tema importnate, es que ademas de los módulos desarrollados por Salesforce, nuestros partner crean aplicaciones completas (como Simplr o NeuroRed) y módulos que puedo incluir en mis propios desarrollos. Luego veremos el concepto de AppExchange.
Sobre esta plataforma se han desarrollado los diferentes módulos, como Sales, Services,Marketing, toda la parte analitíticaa, etc.

But wielding the raw API's or configuring an ETL solution isn't trivial. Which is why Salesforce offers some fast-track solutions. Starting with Salesforce Connect. I've demoed this product a lot, because people are consistently blown away when they see me work through an ETL project in 30 seconds. Here's how it works. Say you want some external data from another system inside Salesforce. Step 1 - Point Salesforce to an oData endpoint. oData, by the way, is an industry standard supported by many systems. Think of it as a language that systems can use to talk to one another. Step 2 - Salesforce reaches out to this system and examines the structure of that data then AUTOMATICALLY creates something we call an External Object. And that's it. For the most part, Salesforce treats external objects just like it does standard or custom objects. Which means all the Salesforce features we know and love are instantly usable with this external data. That means search, reporting, the Lightning. It's all done. And if that's not awesome enough, all this external data is also accessible with Salesforce1. Which means we've not only integrated external data, we've also mobilized it. e talking weeks of work, depending on the scenario.
