This document discusses a fish ecology research project studying reef fish communities. It introduces the REEF fish abundance database and outlines different zones of coral reef structure from varying depths and light penetration. The document proposes investigating differences in diversity, abundance, and species composition of fish communities between flat coral reef tops that divers typically visit versus vertical coral reef walls through analysis of REEF survey data, with a focus on comparison of fish communities on walls in the Cayman Islands.
This document provides an agenda for the 291st OMICS International Conference on Aquaculture & Fisheries held from July 20-22, 2015 in Brisbane, Australia. The agenda lists the various sessions, talks, and events scheduled over the 3 day conference, including keynote speakers, topic tracks on aquaculture research, and a young researcher forum. Poster sessions and talks will cover topics like aquatic species biology, aquaculture systems, fisheries management, and aquaculture policy. The conference aims to facilitate discussion on advancing sustainable aquaculture and fisheries.
This document provides an overview of aquaculture production in Malaysia. It discusses the main aquaculture systems and species cultured, including shrimp, sea bass, seaweeds and freshwater fish. Production of these aquaculture products has been increasing in recent years. It also provides information on government support programs and quality control initiatives to further develop the aquaculture industry in Malaysia.
This document proposes re-envisioning infrastructure in urban areas by shaping new edges with transportation infrastructure like bus rapid transit for the Metro Transit Hiawatha Line, considering existing and envisioned land uses as well as urban stakeholders. The design intention is to create a new urban ecology through infrastructure changes.

A resident created a rain garden by digging out an existing bed and mixing in sand and manure. Several neighbors helped with the work. Rocks from the resident's old house were used to form a stream bed to direct water to a lower level. Native wildflowers will be planted that will attract butterflies and birds while reducing the need for watering.

1. Site selection is important for fish farms, with ideal sites containing a mixture of sand and clay. Rocky, sandy, and limestone sites should be avoided.
2. When constructing ponds, the dyke, slope, water inlet, outlet, and spillway must be properly built. The pond bottom should be cleared and sloped towards the drainage area.
3. Different materials can be used for pond lining, including RCC, bricks, HDPE, and LDPE, to control weeds and ease cleaning. Proper water inlet is also important, such as using canals with sluice gates or cement pipes.
Coral reefs support a huge diversity of plant and animal life. Over 800 hard coral species and 4,000 fish species inhabit coral reefs. Coral reef ecosystems are home to fish, seabirds, sponges, jellyfish, worms, crustaceans, mollusks, echinoderms, sea turtles, sea snakes, and various plant life like seagrasses and mangroves. This diversity includes vertebrates like many fish species, sea snakes, sea turtles, and dugongs as well as invertebrates like sponges, starfish, sea urchins, snails, shrimp, and algae. Coral reefs provide vital habitat for breeding, feeding
This thesis examines the potential use of low-cost biomass as a source of organic carbon and nutrients for microalgal cultivation for biofuel production. The author conducted two experiments: 1) pretreatment of duckweed and filamentous algae biomass to release sugars for microalgal growth, and 2) cultivation of various microalgal strains using different organic acids as carbon sources. Results showed that up to 50% of sugars could be released from biomass, and acetic acid supported better microalgal growth than other organic acids tested. Certain microalgal strains, including UTEX CS-01, UTEX 1230 and UTEX 2714, displayed high growth when cultured on acetic acid. The study demonstrates

The document discusses the benefits of exercise for mental health. Regular physical activity can help reduce anxiety and depression and improve mood and cognitive function. Exercise causes chemical changes in the brain that may help protect against mental illness and improve symptoms.
The document appears to be describing changes over time in a city, possibly Istanbul, through various symbols and time periods. It mentions the Ottoman Empire, Jewish and Armenian populations, as well as more modern elements like trams, the metro line, and cell phones. Overall it seems to reflect on how the city has developed and transformed socially and economically over centuries, with influences from different cultures and eras.

The document discusses the Eastern Waterfront area of Mazgaon in Mumbai. It notes that the finger bunders were originally built for wood and coal trade but have lost relevance, and parts have been replaced by iron and steel storage or encroached upon. The area still hosts ship breaking, an environmentally hazardous activity, despite steel markets officially relocating. It also discusses scrap metal industries in the area and the related informal settlements encroaching on land.
The document outlines 6 areas along the Mumbai Eastern Waterfront that were studied by the GSAPP Urban Design Studio in 2009 under Professor Geeta Mehta. The areas included Colaba Fisherman Village known for tourism, ChorBazaar known for its dock informal economy, Mazagaon-Matharpakadi known for its colonial heritage neighborhood, PD'Mello Road known for its informal habitats requiring relocation and rehabilitation, Sewri known for its infrastructure projects and links to New Mumbai, and Wadala known for its emerging high-rise landscapes through salt pan land conversion.

This document provides information about a housing development project that will accommodate 50 families and 285 people. It discusses the total plot area of 1595 square meters, of which 26.3% or 420 square meters is designated as community space. The existing floor area ratio (FAR) is 1.23, and only a little additional construction is possible to reach an FAR of 1.33. Various housing configurations are proposed to make efficient use of space.
The document discusses redevelopment plans for an existing housing cooperative in Dharavi, Mumbai. It analyzes different redevelopment schemes up to a maximum permissible Floor Space Index (FSI) of 2.5. Scheme options include an L-shape, U-shape, and courtyard configuration up to 6 stories tall. Financing options include selling excess unused FSI to generate funds for redevelopment.
This document discusses existing conditions and problems for residents of a housing development called Chawl No. 1. It analyzes the current site features including floor space index (FSI), building height, and percentage of open space. Various redevelopment proposals are presented with increased FSI up to 4.0 along with changes to dwelling units, heights, and open spaces. Possible solutions from government and private schemes are shown providing more floor area per resident while maintaining some existing site features for a better living environment and community spaces.
