2. VERBAL PHRASES
English sentences generally have only a verb, but may have several verbal sentences. Verbal sentences are
constructed using the infinitive, present participle or past participle, and their complements.
Las oraciones en inglés por lo general tienen solamente un verbo, pero pueden tener varias frases verbales. Las
frases verbales se construyen usando el infinitivo, el participio presente, o el participio pasado, y sus
correspondientes complementos.
Verbal phrases with infinitive and present participle can take the place of nouns. Verb phrases with the present
participle used as nouns also called gerundias phrases. Infinitive verb phrases can act as adverbs. Verbal sentences
with present participle or past participle can act as adjectives, and in this case also called participle phrases. The
verbal phrases that are not essential to the meaning of the phrase are separated by commas.
Las frases verbales con infinitivo y participio presente pueden tomar el lugar de los sustantivos. Las frases verbales
con participio presente que se usan como sustantivos también se llaman frases gerundias. Las frases verbales con
infinitivo pueden actuar como adverbios. Las frases verbales con participio presente o participio pasado pueden
actuar como adjetivos, y en este caso también se llaman frases de participio. Las frases verbales que no son
esenciales para el significado de la frase se separan con comas.
