We will demonstrate how volunteers can become a reference point for the young person and tailor expectations to avoid unnecessary frustration, and how to handle the emotions of the young person and the volunteer which emerge during the mentoring. We will also look at how to use the experience to make it rewarding in the process of self-knowledge and personal growth for both the young person and the volunteer, and how to ensure the support provided by the volunteer drives the process of growth towards the young person’s self-sufficiency and independence.
