1. ¿ España como miembro del G8? Richard Philpott, Ignacio Loyola, Kelly Ryall
As a result, when Franco died, by modern western standards his government still played a large economic role (Ross). Not on same level politically either. Late comer effect - main world institutions already established..IMF…G8. Spain lost in the middle, not developing nor rich. Already had it’s place.
Spain was a poor country. Joined EU late, was a member of the poor four for ages and even now is still asking for lots of assistance. Not on the same level as France, Italy, UK 4 out of every 10km in Spain motorway was built with European money. (http://ec.europa.eu/regional_policy/atlas/spain/factsheets/pdf/fact_es_en.pdf) In the past seven years Spain was the biggest recipient of all EU funds (EUR 99,5 billion over the period), http://europa.eu/rapid/pressReleasesAction.do?reference=IP/07/1380 Los fondos estructurales de la ue entre los anios 83 a 06 fueron exitosos como una medida de estimular el crecimiento economico en todos los cuatro paises mas pobres. usó los fondos de manera eficaz para construir careteras y modernizar sus economias y fue capaz de lograr una tasa de crecimiento mas alto que los otros paises y de hecho mas alto que el p .
G8 has lost importance. Now with emerging economies need a voice….. Lots of G suggestions. So formed the G20 – most important.
VIDEO!!!
Put South Africa and Saudi Arabia in together just before Euro at end.
Better world representation but still a manageable size. G20 recognises the effects of globalisation and reality. They discuss methods to control and stabalise it. G20 being it’s size guarantees a fair representation and voice to all continents and main and future economies.
Whilst not officially a member, a lot of people already consider them part of the G20. Even Gordon Brown didn’t know that Spain wasn’t an official member. Ambiguous because currently in EU presidency and has a strong voice. Outside of EU, Spain has little voice. Sarkosy lobbied for Spain to be invited to Washington. US still wouldn’t phone Spain first on a European matter. Obama snubbed EU-US summit in Madrid in May. – CHECK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yes Spain represented by EU but still far from 1 single EU voice Spanish 2 nd most spoken language in the world.
Not going to happen in the short term. Spain should instead focus on improving national level, then EU level, before looking internationally. Follow other interests such as AL and North Africa whicih offer unique opportunities
EU already well represented so other countries don’t want their power diluted. Brasil US
