Passive voice

2. Cuando utilizamos la “Passive Voice” en
inglés, la acción recae sobre el objeto.
Usamos la “Passive Voice” cuando:
- Cuando no se sabe el sujeto que ha
realizado la acción.
- Cuando se da más importancia a la acción
que al sujeto que la realiza.
- No se usa la voz pasiva con verbos
intransitivos, es decir, los que no tienen
complementos directos. Por ejemplo:
arrive, go, die, lie, etc...

4. Para utilizar la “Passive Verb”, generalmente
se sigue la siguiente formula.
Sujeto + verbo auxiliar ("to be") + participio de
pasado
Esto siempre dependerá del tipo de tiempo
que tiene el verbo principal de la acción.
Pero vamos, paso a paso.

5. Para pasar una frase activa a pasiva
debemos seguir los siguientes pasos:
- El objeto de la oración activa pasa a ser el
sujeto de la oración pasiva.
- El verbo principal se sustituye por el auxiliar
"to be" (en el mismo tiempo verbal) seguido
del verbo principal en participio.
- El sujeto de la oración activa pasa a ser
complemento agente de la pasiva. No
siempre aparece en la oración, y cuando
aparece va introducido por "by".
- Vamos a ver ahora los diferentes tipo de
tiempos de voz pasiva.

8. Sujeto + IS BEING ("to be") + participio de
pasado
ACTIVE
Charles is writing the letter

9. Sujeto + WAS/WERE ("to be") + participio de
pasado
ACTIVE
Charles wrote the letter
PASIVE
The letter was written by Charles

10. Sujeto + WAS/ WERE BEING ("to be") +
participio de pasado
ACTIVE
Charles was writing the letter
PASIVE
The letter was being written by Charles

11. Sujeto + HAVE/HAS BEEN ("to be") +
participio de pasado
ACTIVE
Charles has written the letter

The letter has been written by Charles

16. ACTIVE
1) The students will give a presentation tomorrow.
2) We receive the newspaper everyday.
3) They pay us every Saturday.
4) The fire destroyed the building.
5) Paul has written her a letter this week.
PASIVE
1) A presentation will be given tomorrow by the students.
2) The newspaper is received everyday.
3) We are paid every Saturday.
4) The building was destroyed by the fire.
5) She has been written a letter this week. / A letter has been
written to Paul this week.
