35 places are a subset of the G200 and so include the most outstanding representative of biomes and geographic realms As you look at the places some may ask “is this really providing focus?” After all we have 35 places which include 107 ecoregions. Ecoregions are more numerous partly because new f7w ones have been identified. But focus in the whole GPF will ultimately come from how we implement: if we really do invest most (80%) of our efforts into the new prioirities, we really will focus
At its last meeting in March 2002 in The Hague, the Netherlands, the Conference of the Parties adopted a Strategic Plan, and, as part of that plan, a target: “to achieve, by 2010, a significant reduction of the current rate of biodiversity loss at the global, regional and national levels as a contribution to poverty alleviation and to the benefit of all life on earth”
