2. Hezekiah’s Sickness and Recovery
King Hezekiah became deathly ill, and the prophet Isaiah gave the king this message: “This is what
the Lord says: Set your affairs in order, for you are going to die. You will not recover from this illness.”
When Hezekiah heard this, he prayed.
Before Isaiah had left the middle courtyard, this message came to him from the Lord: “Go back to
Hezekiah. Tell him, ‘I have heard your prayer and seen your tears. I will heal you, and three days from
now you will get out of bed and go to the Temple of the Lord.’”
Dios prolonga la vida de Ezequías
El rey Ezequías se enfermó
gravemente y estaba por morir. El
profeta Isaías fue a visitarlo y le dijo:
«Dios dice que vas a morir, así que
arregla todos tus asuntos familiares más
importantes». Entonces Ezequías volvió
su cara hacia la pared y oró.
Isaías lo dejó, pero antes de salir al
patio central del palacio, Dios le dijo:
«Vuelve y dile al rey, que yo escuché su
oración. Dile que voy a sanarlo, y que le
daré quince años más de vida. Dentro de
tres días ya podrá venir a mi templo para
adorarme.»

3. Hezekiah said to Isaiah, “What sign will the Lord give to prove that he will heal me?”
Isaiah replied, “This is the sign from the Lord to prove that he will do as he promised. Would you like
the shadow on the sundial to go forward ten steps or backward ten steps?”
“The shadow always moves forward,” Hezekiah replied, “so that would be easy. Make it go ten steps
backward instead.” So Isaiah the prophet asked the Lord to do this, and God caused the shadow to
move ten steps backward on the sundial.
Ezequías le preguntó: —¿Y cómo voy a saber que sanaré y que podré ir al templo dentro de tres días?
¿Qué señal me vas a dar?
Isaías le respondió: —Dime tú qué señal prefieres: ¿quieres que la sombra en el reloj del sol se
adelante diez grados o prefieres que retroceda?
Ezequías
contestó: —Que la
sombra se
adelante es fácil.
Lo difícil es que
retroceda. Prefiero
que retroceda diez
grados.
Isaías le rogó a
Dios que lo hiciera
así, y Dios hizo que
la sombra
retrocediera diez
grados en el reloj
de Ahaz.

4. Daniel in the Lion’s Den
When the Medes overthrew the Babylonians, Daniel became a senior administrator during the reign
of King Darius. However, Daniel's fellow governors became jealous and plotted against him. They
persuaded Darius to decree restrictions on prayer and worship, under penalty of death, but Daniel's well-
known devotion to his God compelled him to ignore the decree.

Después que los medos
derrocaron a los babilonios, se le
concedió a Daniel un alto cargo
administrativo durante el
reinado de Darío.
Otros dos gobernadores,
movidos por la envidia,
conspiraron contra Daniel.
Convencieron a Darío para que
decretara restricciones a la
oración y el culto, cuyo
incumplimiento se castigaría con
la muerte. Pero Daniel, cuya
devoción a su Dios era de todos
conocida, hizo caso omiso de
aquel decreto.

5. When Daniel was thrown into a den of hungry lions, The king said to him, “May your God, whom
you serve so faithfully, rescue you.”
Very early the next morning, the king got up and hurried out to the lions’ den. When he got there,
he called out, “Daniel, servant of the living God! Was your God, whom you serve so faithfully, able to
rescue you from the lions?”
Daniel answered, “Long live the king! My God sent his angel to shut the lions’ mouths so that they
would not hurt me.”
The king was overjoyed and ordered that Daniel be lifted from the den. Not a scratch was found on
him, for he had trusted in his God.
El rey ordenó que arrestaran a Daniel y lo arrojaran al foso de los leones. El rey le dijo: «Que tu Dios, a
quien sirves tan fielmente, te rescate».
Muy temprano a la mañana siguiente,
el rey se levantó y fue deprisa al foso de
los leones. Cuando llegó allí, gritó con
angustia: —¡Daniel, siervo del Dios
viviente! ¿Pudo tu Dios rescatarte de los
leones?
Daniel contestó: — Mi Dios envió a su
ángel para cerrarles la boca a los leones,
a fin de que no me hicieran daño.
El rey se alegró mucho y mandó que
sacaran a Daniel del foso. No tenía
ningún rasguño, porque había confiado
en Dios.

6. The Lord's Prayer
Once Jesus was in a certain place praying. As he finished, one of his disciples came to him and said,
“Lord, teach us to pray.”
Jesus said, “This is how you should pray: Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name. Your kingdom
come. Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us day by day our daily bread. And forgive us
our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from
the evil one. For Yours is the kingdom, the power and glory, forever and ever, Amen.”
Jesús enseña a orar
Una vez, Jesús estaba orando en cierto lugar.
Cuando terminó, uno de sus discípulos se le
acercó y le dijo: —Señor, enséñanos a orar.
Jesús dijo: —Deberían orar de la siguiente
manera: “Padre nuestro que estás en los cielos,
santificado sea tu nombre. Venga tu reino.
Hágase tu voluntad, como en el cielo, así
también en la tierra. El pan nuestro de cada
día, dánoslo hoy. Y perdónanos nuestros
pecados, porque también nosotros
perdonamos a todos los que nos deben. Y no
nos metas en tentación, mas líbranos del mal.
Porque Tuyo es el reino y el poder y la gloria
para siempre. Amén.”

7. In the Garden of Gethsemane
Jesus went with His disciples to a place called Gethsemane. Then Jesus went to pray by Himself. Jesus
prayed, “My Father, if it is possible, please let me not have to drink this cup of suffering. But if there is no
other way for people’s sins to be forgiven, then let Your will be done.”
En el jardín de
Getsemaní
Jesús fue con sus
discípulos a un lugar
llamado Getsemaní.
Luego Jesús fue a orar
por él mismo.
Jesús oró "Padre mío,
si es posible, haz que no
tenga que beber esta
copa de sufrimiento. Pero
si no hay otra manera de
que los pecados de la
gente sean perdonados,
hágase tu voluntad."

8. Peter’s Miraculous Escape from Prison
Herod imprisoned Peter, placing him under the guard of four squads of four soldiers each. But
while Peter was in prison, the church prayed very earnestly for him.
The night before Peter was to be placed on trial, there was a bright light in the cell, and an angel of
the Lord stood before Peter. The angel said, “Quick! Get up!” And the chains fell off his wrists.“Now
put on your coat and follow me,” the angel ordered.
Un ángel libra de la cárcel a Pedro
Herodes metió a Pedro en la cárcel, donde estaba vigilado por cuatro grupos de soldados. Pero
mientras Pedro estaba en la
cárcel, los miembros de la iglesia
oraban a Dios por él en todo
momento.
La misma noche anterior al día
en que Herodes lo iba a presentar
ante el pueblo, una luz intensa
iluminó la celda y un ángel del
Señor se puso frente a Pedro. El
ángel le dijo: «¡Levántate en
seguida!» Al instante, las cadenas
cayeron de las manos de Pedro, y
el ángel le dijo: «Ponte tu capa y
sígueme.»

9. So Peter left the cell, following the angel. They passed the first and second guard posts and came to
the iron gate leading to the city, and this opened for them all by itself. So they passed through and
started walking down the street, and then the angel suddenly left him.
Así que Pedro salió
de la celda y siguió
al ángel. Pasaron el
primer puesto de
guardia y luego el
segundo y llegaron a
la puerta de hierro
