2. Thanking God for His Goodness
David was the greatest king of ancient Israel. He wrote many of the songs of praise that
constitute the largest book of the Bible, the book of Psalms. He said:
I will praise the LORD at all times. I will
constantly speak his praises. Let
everything that breathes sing praises
to the LORD! (Psalm 34:1, 150:6, NLT)
Alabando a Dios por su bondad
David fue el más grande de los reyes
del antiguo Israel. Escribió muchos de
los cantos de alabanza que conforman
el libro más largo de la Biblia: los
Salmos. David dijo,
Alabaré al Señor en todo tiempo; a
cada momento pronunciaré sus
alabanzas. ¡Que todo lo que respira
cante alabanzas al Señor! ¡Alabado sea
el Señor! (Salmos 34:1, 150:6)
3. The Power of Praise
Word was rushed to Jehoshaphat, the king of Judah, that a vast army was swiftly
approaching. Three neighboring kingdoms had joined forces and were about to attack.
La eficacia de la alabanza
Llegaron a oídos de
Josafat, rey de Judá,
noticias urgentes que le
advertían del rápido
avance de un
multitudinario ejército.
Tres reinos se habían
unido en una ofensiva
para atacarlo.
4. Jehoshaphat was terrified by this news and begged the Lord for guidance. He stood before the
community of Judah and Jerusalem in front of the new courtyard at the Temple of the Lord
and prayed.
Then a young priest named Jahaziel cried out with a loud voice to all the people, "Thus says
the Lord to you: You will not need to fight in this battle. Position yourselves, stand still and see
the salvation of the Lord.”
Josafat quedó aterrado con la
noticia y le suplicó al Señor que
lo guiara. Se puso de pie ante la
comunidad de Judá en Jerusalén,
frente al nuevo atrio del templo
del Señor, y oró.
De repente, un joven sacerdote
llamado Jahaziel clamó a gran
voz a toda la asamblea del
pueblo: —El Señor os dice así:
"No tendréis necesidad de
combatir en esta batalla. Tomen
sus posiciones; luego quédense
quietos y observen la victoria del
Señor."
5. The next morning, as the troops made preparations for battle, the idea came to appoint
singers to lead the troops into battle. As they took their position at the front of the ranks
they sang, "Praise the Lord, for His mercy endures forever." They were thanking God in
advance for the victory He had promised to win.
Al día siguiente, mientras las
tropas se preparaban para la
batalla, surgió la idea de
nombrar a un grupo de
cantantes que marchasen a la
vanguardia delante de las
tropas. —Dad gracias al Señor,
porque Su misericordia es para
siempre.
Con ello le agradecieron a Dios
anticipadamente la victoria
que Él les había prometido.
6. No sooner had they begun to sing and
praise, than the Lord set ambushes
against the invaders and they were
defeated. None of their enemies
escaped.
Apenas habían empezado a entonar cánticos y
alabanzas, el Señor —según narra la Biblia—
puso emboscadas contra los invasores, y éstos
cayeron derrotados. Ninguno de sus enemigos
escaparon.
7. Jesus Heals Ten Lepers
As Jesus entered a village one day, ten men with leprosy approached him. These men stood
at a distance and called out to Jesus. “Jesus, have mercy on us and heal us!”
Jesús y los diez
leprosos
Cuando Jesús entró
en una aldea, diez
hombres que
estaban enfermos
de lepra fueron
hacia él. Se
quedaron un poco
lejos de Jesús y
gritaron: —¡Jesús,
Maestro, ten
compasión de
nosotros y
sánanos!
8. Jesus saw them and told
them, “Go, show yourselves
to the priest.” (According to
the custom of the Jews, after
a leper had been healed, he
was to present himself to
the priest to verify his
healing.)
Jesús los vio y les dijo que se
presentaran ante los
sacerdotes. (Según la
costumbre, cuando un
leproso sanaba tenía que
presentarse ante los
sacerdotes para que
constataran su curación.)
9. The men obeyed and as they went, they were healed!
Los hombres obedecieron, y mientras iban al templo, ¡quedaron completamente sanos!
10. One man, when he saw he was healed, turned back. He knelt at Jesus’ feet and thanked him.
Jesus then asked “Weren’t ten healed? Where are the others? Has no one else returned to
thank God except this man?”
Uno de ellos, cuando vio
que estaba sano, volvió a
Jesús. Cayó al suelo, a los
pies de Jesús, y le
agradeció por lo que había
hecho.
Jesús preguntó: «¿No sané
a diez hombres? ¿Dónde
están los otros nueve?
¿Ninguno volvió para
darle gloria a Dios excepto
este extranjero?»
11. Every day is filled with happy
moments that we could
thank God for, if we paused
to acknowledge them. Take
time to count your blessings,
to think about all the good
things the Lord has given you
and done for you.
Cada día está lleno de
momentos felices por los que
podemos dar gracias a Dios si
nos detenemos a apreciarlos.
Cuenta tus bendiciones y haz
un repaso de todo lo bueno
que el Señor te ha dado y ha
hecho por ti.
12. The Secret of Contentment
Paul, in his zeal to share the good news about Jesus, met opposition on countless occasions.
He was beaten, imprisoned, stoned, shipwrecked, persecuted, and destitute. Where did he
get the strength to carry on?
El secreto del
contentamiento
El apóstol Pablo, en su
fervor por difundir las
buenas nuevas de Jesús,
debió soportar
oposición en
innumerables
ocasiones. Fue
golpeado, encarcelado,
apedreado, perseguido
y desposeído; además
sufrió varios naufragios.
¿De dónde sacó fuerzas
para seguir adelante?
13. Paul said, “I have learned how
to be content with whatever I
have. I know how to live on
almost nothing or with
everything. For I can do
everything through Christ,
who gives me strength.”
(Philippians 4:11-13)
Pablo dijo: — He aprendido a
estar contento con lo que
tengo. Sé vivir con casi nada o
con todo lo necesario. Pues
todo lo puedo hacer por
medio de Cristo, quien me da
las fuerzas. (Filipenses 4:11-
13)
