2. Los “Phrasal Verbs” o “Verbos Compuestos” son un aspecto muy
particular del inglés y que frecuentemente causa confusión
entre las personas que están aprendiendo este idioma.
Oraciones
1. Get on
Subir/montarse
The bus was full.We couldn’t get on.
El autobús estaba completo, no pudimos subirnos.
2. Drive off
Marcharse (en un vehículo) de algún lugar
A woman got into the car and drove off.
Una mujer se subió al coche y se marchó.

Volver a algún lugar.
Sally is leaving tomorrow and coming back on Saturday.
Sally se va mañana y vuelve el sábado.
4. Break down
Dejar de funcionar , dejar de operar. (romperse)
Sorry I’m late.The car broke down.
Siento llegar tarde. El coche dejó de funcionar (se
rompió)
5. Look out
Ser cuidadoso, estar atento, permanecer atento.
Look out!There’s a car coming
Presta atención!, Viene un coche.
4. Modals verbs son aquellos verbos que funcionan como auxiliares,
ya que no pueden funcionar como verbo principal, es decir, no
funcionan sin otro verbo. Este otro verbo siempre va después del
verbo modal, y está en forma base (infinitivo sin “to”).
Oraciones
I must remember to get a present for Daisy. (my opinion)
You have to look after their hair regularly. (dog experts say so)
Do you have to wear a tie for school? (asking about school rules)
You mustn't eat so much chocolate, you'll be sick
I don't have to get up early at the weekend(of course, if I want to
get up early, that's fine, but I can stay in bed if I want).

simple. Las contracciones se usan frecuentemente: I’ll
(I will), You’ll (You will), He’ll (He will), She’ll (She
will), It’ll (It will), We’ll (We will), You’ll (You will) y
They’ll (They will).
Oraciones
We will play in the park next week. (Nosotros jugaremos
en el parque la siguiente semana)
He will watch his son in the race. (Él verá a su hijo en la
carrera)
The store will be open until seven o’clock. (La tienda
estará abierta hasta las 7)
The plant will die because of lack of sunshine. (La
planta morirá por falta de luz natural)
We will try to arrive on time. (Nosotros trataremos de
llegar a tiempo)

gramaticales particulares, que se usan casi de manera
exclusiva en la comunicación oral, que tienen por
intención obtener una corroboración o bien
una refutación inmediata de lo que se está diciendo
por parte de quien escucha.
