La acalasia es un trastorno neuromuscular que causa disfunción del esófago inferior y el esfínter esofágico inferior. Sus síntomas principales son la disfagia, la regurgitación de alimentos no digeridos y el dolor torácico. El diagnóstico se realiza mediante estudios de motilidad esofágica y el tratamiento depende de la gravedad de los síntomas y puede incluir dilataciones neumáticas, inyecciones de toxina botulínica o cirugía miotomía.
