El documento describe los usos generales de las palabras "so" y "such" en inglés. "So" se utiliza comúnmente para sustituir un adjetivo, adverbio o nombre mencionado anteriormente para enfatizar su significado. También se usa con cuantificadores y en expresiones como "I hope so". "Such" generalmente precede un adjetivo y un sustantivo, como en "That's such a lie", o se usa para ejemplificar como en "Such as".

So and Such Uses
Generalmente sustituyen a un nombre, adjetivo u adverbio ya mencionados en una
oración; por tanto, desempeñan la función de pronombre llegando a funcionar como
una Prop-Word.
Se utilizan siempre a modo de énfasis recalcando el significado del nombre, adjetivo u
adverbio al que sustituyen.
Los principales usos son:
 SO
- Se usa delante de un adjetivo ( sin sustantivo detrás) o delante de un adverbio:
I´m so hungry! Why are they talking so quickly?
- También se emplea con cuantificadores como much, many, few, little:
I´ve never seen so many insects There´s so much to do and so little time
- Con una Relative-Clause expresa resultado:
The exam was so difficult that only three students passed
She spoke so quietly that nobody heard
- En expresiones como:
I believe/think so Creo que sí
I hope so Espero que sí/ así lo espero
I suppose/guess so Supongo que sí
It appears/ seems so Parece que sí
I´m afraid so/ fear so Me temo que sí
La Negación de estas expresiones se realiza con not en vez de so o simplemente con
el verbo en forma negativa. LA NEGACIÓN CON SO NO SE APLICA EN:
I hope not I´m afraid not / I fear not
- Cuando sustituye al adverbio too significando “también”. En este caso el auxiliar y
el sujeto se invierten después de so.
She likes the cinema and so do I I really enjoyed the film. So did I
I´ve finished. So has she

- Sirve para ratificar algo dicho anteriormente y no hay inversión de sujeto:
I said I would do it and so I did
- Sustituye a un nombre , pronombre o adjetivo previamente mencionados:
If he´s a lazy boy. It´s his parents who made him so
If she wants me to do it, I´ll do so
the evening.
- En expresiones como:
She´s so sweet It´s so interesting They´re so mean
 SUCH
- Generalmente se usa antes de un adjetivo + noun , o un sustantivo. Date cuenta
que cuando se emplea el articulo indefinido va siempre después del such:
That´s such a lie!
Why are dogs such faithful pets?
You´re such a good swimmer
Why have you done such a thing?
I like them as such
- Such as: “tal como” , “tales como” (Conector de ejemplificación)
There were lots of presents such as chocs, sweets…
- En expresiones como:
He´s such a fool! ¡Es tan tonto!
It´s such a waste of time! ¡Es una pérdida de tiempo tan
