PARA TOMAR EN CONSIDERACIÓN:
¥ El estudiante deberá traer siempre consigo un diccionario bilingüe ya que ese será su más
importante y principal herramienta de trabajo. Además de que durante las actividades
evaluativas no se permitirá el préstamo de diccionarios entre compañeros o entre grupos.
¥ Es deber del estudiante leer el material ANTES de cada clase, ya que durante las horas
académicas se realizarán distintas actividades para el reforzamiento de los conocimientos
adquiridos.
¥ Al final de la guía se anexan distintas listas, así como también ayuda complementaría que le
facilitará al estudiante la comprensión de los contenidos. Es recomendable que esta sección
sea revisada regularmente.
¥ Las evaluaciones deberán ser entregadas o enviadas en las fechas pautadas. Si llegase a
ocurrir algún inconveniente, deberá tomar las medidas que sean convenientes.
¥ Las actividades hechas en línea no se recuperan, y en el caso de las actividades presenciales,
será si el estudiante trae consigo el justificativo correspondiente avalado por la enfermería de
la universidad.
¥ Las asesorías no son obligatorias. Sin embargo, de ser requeridas, notificar con anterioridad y
respetar las horas asignadas para el asesoramiento. Esto es para evitar cualquier
inconveniente que se pueda presentar.
¥ Las revisiones de nota se realizarán durante el horario establecido de asesorías únicamente.

Sentence elements are the groups of words that combine
together to comprise the „building units‟ of a well-formed
sentence.
Una oración está, de forma amplia, conformada por Sujeto y un Predicado, que a su vez
comprenden palabras que son tradicionalmente agrupadas en ocho categorías gramaticales, las cuales
son: SUSTANTIVO, VERBO, PRONOMBRE, ADJETIVO, ADVERBIO, PREPOSICION, CONJUNCIÓN E
INTERJECCIÓN.
1. Nombre o Sustantivo: denomina una persona, pueblo, ciudad, país. Etc.
¥ Nombres propios (proper nouns): Mary, Peter, Venezuela, etc.
¥ Nombres comunes (common nouns): table, book, hand, dog, body.
¥ Nombres Colectivos (collective nouns): a pride of lions, a swarm of bees
¥ Nombres abstractos (abstract nouns): love, peace, courage, idea.
2. Verbo: es la palabra que expresa acción, movimiento, cambio, ocurrencia o existencia (un
estado de ser). El verbo funciona como el predicado de una oración o como la parte esencial
de ese predicado. Los verbos pueden estar en diferentes tiempos verbales, tales como:

¥ Presente Simple: Anne does not like going to the university
Anne likes going to the university
¥ Pasado Simple: Anne did not like going to the university
Anne liked going to the university
¥ Futuro Simple: Anne will go to the university for the next 2 years
3. Adjetivo: Modifican, califican o dan detalles sobre nombres o pronombres y por lo general
están situados cerca de la palabra que modifican.
En inglés los adjetivos NO
Ejemplos: se pluralizan.
¥ Shy, famous, small, big, old, long, large.
¥ Los números también funcionan como adjetivos: three bones, two surfaces.
Los adjetivos también se usan para comparar. En inglés si el adjetivo es corto, sufre una
modificación en su forma comparativa y superlativa. En cambio si es largo, algunas palabras como
more, the most lo rodean. Por ejemplo:
Adjetivos de 1 silaba Comparativo (adj+er) Superlativo (adj+est)
small smaller (the) smallest
big bigger (the) biggest
young younger (the) youngest
Al resto de los adjetivos se le agrega la palabra more (comparativo), the most (superlativo).
Por ejemplo:

Ahora veamos en una oración:
¥ The lateral surface of the clavicle is lower than the posterior one.
Can you identify the adjective in the following sentences?
¥ It is a long bone, curved somewhat like the italic letter f.
¥ Medially it is divided by a narrow subcutaneous area into two parts: a lower, elliptical in
form, and directed forward, for the attachment of the Pectoralis major; and an upper for the
attachment of the Sternocleidomastoideus.
¥ The circumference of the articular facet is rough, especially above, for the attachment of the
acromioclavicular ligaments.
4. Pronombres: son palabras que sustituyen a sustantivos o frases nominales.

¥ In those persons who perform considerable manual labor it becomes thicker and more curved,
and its ridges for muscular attachment are prominently marked.
5. Adverbios: modifican verbos, adjetivos y otros adverbios. Además, un adverbio puede
modificar hasta el resto de la oración en la que aparece.
La terminación –LY casi
Ejemplos: siempre convierte
adjetivos en adverbios.
Very, too, never, soon, sometimes, quickly.
¥
Ej.: honest-honestly.
¥ I never drink water in the morning but I will do it soon.

6. Preposiciones: unen y relacionan su objeto a otra palabra de la oración
Las preposiciones más comunes son:
¥ about, between, above, across, alter, by, against, along, among, around, at, before, on, in,
below, beneath, from, inside, into, till, round, of, over, out, toward, to, under, up, upon, with,
within, without, behind.
Ejemplo:
¥ The clavicle forms the anterior portion of the shoulder girdle. It is a long bone, curved
somewhat like the italic letter f, and placed nearly horizontally at the upper and anterior part
of the thorax, immediately above the first rib.
7. Conjunciones: funcionan como conectores de palabras, frases o clausulas (primarias o
secundarias). Algunas conjunciones son: and, also, besides, but, instead, or, thus, still,
therefore, however, hence, finally, indeed, meanwhile, otherwise, moreover.
Ejemplo:
¥ Sometimes there are two foramina on the posterior surface, or one on the posterior and
another on the inferior surface
8. Interjecciones: son exclamaciones que pueden estar seguidas de un signo de exclamación.
Ejemplos:
¥ Wow! ; oh!; I can´t believe it!; No way!
