Nanomedicina:
Es la aplicación de nanotecnología a la medicina y la salud con un objetivo común: mejorar
significativamente los sistemas actuales de diagnóstico y tratamiento de las enfermedades, mediante
nuevos sistemas, biomateriales y metodologías desarrolladas a escala nanométrica (el concepto de la
miniaturización)
Implica la conjunción de diversas disciplinas científicas, entre ellas, microelectrónica, química, física,
biología, computación y biomedicina (y por tanto grupos de investigación biomédicos, pluridisciplinares
y grandes hospitales investigadores)

La Nanomedicina terapéutica persigue obtener nuevos medicamentos,
dirigidos, más específicos, que permitan un tratamiento selectivo y una
liberación farmacológica controlada.
Pretende aumentar la eficacia terapéutica y reducir los efectos adversos
asociados (toxicidad).

RETINA: Desarrollo de nuevas terapias para enfermedades degenerativas
de la retina
El principal objetivo de este proyecto es el diseño de un modelo de retina que nos
ayude a comprender mejor algunos de los procesos comunes que se encuentran
en muchas patologías degenerativas de la retina y en el desarrollo de nuevas
alternativas terapéuticas que puedan contribuir a mejorar la calidad de vida de las
personas afectadas por estas patologías. El proyecto se centrará en dos
enfermedades que representan las principales causas de ceguera intratable en
las sociedades occidentales:Degeneración Macular y la Retinosis Pigmentaria.
