The physical and geographical range of conditions covered by the Hass types was large. They were found growing well at 400 metres elevation in the Canary Islands (28 North Latitude) and in Peru at 14 South Latitude and 400 metres with other examples in Colombia much closer to the equator (6 latitude North) and 2000 metres and in Mexico at 19.2 Latitude North and 1540 metres. The formation of separate clouds for the two races or varieties of avocado suggests firstly that they are adapted to different conditions and secondly that homologue is capable of identifying appropriate sites for each and furthermore distinguishes between sites suitable for each type.
