1. Present Continuous
Cuando se quiere expresar una acción que se desarrola, es decir, que esta en progreso o que se esta
desarrollando al momento del habla, se emplea el tiempo Presente Continuo (Present Continuous).
La forma en que se conjuga este tiempo es bastante simple: se usa el verbo to be conjugado en
presente, seguido del gerundio del verbo en cuestión (se agrega -ing, por lo cual los estudiantes lo
reconocen fácilmente).
I) The positive form of the present
continuous.
the subject + verb to be+ verb+-ing form.
Examples:
1. John is reading a book.
She is having breakfast now.
II) The negative form of the present continuous
the subject + verb to be +not+ verb+-ing form.
The negative form is used by adding “not” after the verb to be in the present tense form. You may use contractions.

2. Examples:
John is not reading a book.
She is not having breakfast now
Common mistakes: (errors communes)
-Some students place the negative first. REMEMBER TO USE THE S+V+C !!!
a) Not working my father (INCORRECT) —> My father isn’t (is + not) working (CORRECT)
- Students use the don’t/doesn’t to do the negative:
b) She doesn’t playing (INCORRECT) —> She isn’t playing (CORRECT)
III) The question form of the present continuous
verb to be + the subject +verb+-ing form + ?
Para realizar preguntas en este tiempo verbal, se usa primero el verbo to be conjugado, luego la
persona y finalmente el verbo.
Examples:

3. Is John reading a book?
Yes, he is.
Is she having breakfast now?
No, she isn't.
Para realizar una pregunta específica, se usa la "question word" y luego, se sigue el mismo método.
What is John reading?
He is reading a book.
What is she having now?
She is having breakfast now.
Se puede realizar una pregunta mucho más general para saber que está haciendo una persona, usando el
verbo to do (hacer).
What are you doing?
I'm reading a book.
Pues entonces, piensa cómo dirías lo siguiente en inglés? Estoy usando mi computadora.
