2. Modal Verbs: Los verbos modales en inglés son auxiliares verbales con distintos significados o connotaciones. También
denominados Defective Verbs (verbos defectivos) porque no se pueden conjugar en todos los tiempos verbales a menos que

1- Expresa probabilidad presente o futura. (Probability). Se traduce como poder o es probable que.

No se utiliza May en Interrogativo para indicar probabilidad, salvo si la pregunta comienza con palabra interrogativa:
What time may you come home tomorrow? ¿A que hora es probable que vengas mañana?
2- Expresamos Permiso Formal con May en Interrogativo.
Student: May I go to the toilet? ¿Me deja/dá permiso para ir al baño?
Teacher: yes, you can/may. No, you can´t. NO utilizamos mayn’t para indicar ausencia de permiso.
May I have a day off? ¿Me permite tener un día libre?

Podemos usar May en afirmativo para indicar permiso.
Teacher to students: “ You may stand up, come to my desk and ask me questions now.”
El docente a los estudiantes: “Tienen permiso para pararse, venir a mi escritorio y hacerme preguntas”.
o Maybe es un adverbio que significa quizás, tal vez.
Tom is not coming to school. Maybe he’s ill. Tom no está viniendo al colegio. Quizás esté enfermo.
3- May en interrogativo también expresa pedidos corteses formales. Formal Polite Requests.
At a hotel: May I have your details, please? En un hotel: ¿Me dá sus datos personales, por favor?
