2. Lo primero que hacemos cuando
leemos, aun en español, es ojear
el texto. Revisamos lo más
representativo de la lectura para
saber si es de nuestro interés o
no.
Lo mismo aplica al leer en inglés.
¡Lo mejor es echar un
vistazo!
3. What’s skimming?
This technique helps us to find the general idea
of a text. We have to skim a text to identify:
Topic
Main ideas
Length
Type of text
Author and date of writing
4. (Esta técnica nos ayuda a encontrar la
idea general de un texto. Lo primero que
debemos hacer frente a cualquier texto es
ojearlo para determinar el tema, las ideas
principales, la extension, el tipo de texto
(artículo, cuento, etc), el autor y cuándo
fue escrito).
5. Steps for skimming
1. Read the title. It’s the first summary of the text.
2. Read the introduction or the first paragraph.
3. Read the first sentence in each paragraph. It is the
main idea of the paragraph. Sometimes you can
read also the last sentence.
6. Steps for skimming
4. If the text has subtitles, read them to make
connections.
5. If it has images or pictures, read the picture caption.
6. Then, read the text completely. Look for key words to
answer: What, where, why, who, when.
7. Look for highlighted words. They are important for
the text comprehension.
7. Steps for skimming
8. Look for lists or adjectives such as: most, few,
less. They give specific meaning to the ideas.
9. Look for words in italic, bold, underlined, etc.
That’s key information in the text.
10. Read the last paragraph completely.
Lea
el último párrafo por completo).
8. Let’s read!
