2. We use the simple present to express:
• Habits
• General truth
• Permanent situations
• Future timetables
• Instructions and directions

3. El present simple se utiliza para expresar:
• Acciones habituales o cotidianas que suceden con una cierta periodicidad. En este caso es muy
común el uso de adverbios de frecuencia (frequency adverbs) como: always, usually, sometimes,
never.
I play tennis every Tuesday. Juego al tenis todos los martes.
• Afirmaciones o hechos universales.
The sun rises every day. El sol sale todos los días.
• Situaciones permanentes.
He works in a bank.
• Acciones que ocurren en el futuro en un horario establecido.
The train leaves at quarter past nine in the morning.
• Situaciones de larga duración que se mantienen en el presente y continúan en el futuro.
I live in Venice. Vivo en Venecia
• Instrucciones de cómo usar o llevar a cabo alguna cosa.
First you fold the paper in half. Primero doblas el papel por la mitad.

4. AFFIRMATIVE
En las oraciones afirmativas, la estructura de la oración es la siguiente:
SUBJECT + VERB + COMPLEMENT
I love sports.
En las oraciones afirmativas, si el sujeto es la 3° persona del singular (he, she,
it ) debemos agregarle –s al verbo. Para el resto de los pronombres, el verbo
queda en infinitivo sin TO.
Examples: She works at a shop.
They ride their bikes to school.

6. NEGATIVE
• En las oraciones negativas, la estructura de la oración es la siguiente:
SUBJECT + DO NOT / DOES NOT + VERB + COMPLEMENTO
Usamos el auxiliar does not = doesn’t si el sujeto es la 3° persona del
singular (he, she, it). Para el resto de los pronombres (I, you, we,
they)usamos el auxiliar do not = don’t .
Examples: I don’t get up early on Sundays.
It doesn’t snow here in winter.

8. INTERROGATIVE
• Para formular una pregunta el orden de las palabras es el siguiente:
AUXILIAR + SUJETO + VERBO … ?
Usamos el auxiliar does si el sujeto es la 3° persona del singular (he,
she, it). Para el resto de los pronombres (I, you, we, they) usamos el
auxiliar do.
Examples: Do you work in the morning?
Does your sister study at a university?

11. La función de los auxiliares.
Los auxiliares do y does sirven para negar y preguntar. Carecen de
significado, sin embargo apoyan y acompañan al verbo principal.
Examples:
Do you want to go to the concert with me?
¿Quieres venir al concierto conmigo?
I don’t want to talk about this anymore.
Ya no quiero hablar de este tema.
