The Divine Prophetic Chain of Command
(Several texts have been put together to show there is a certain sequence the messages come from God to the prophet and eventually to the people. Revelation 1:1 provides a basic sequence, but other texts show that at various stages in the transmission of messages the Holy Spirit, as well as angels participated in bringing the message to the human family.
We should note that not all of these stages are clearly indicated in every text. They rather show that in various ways these are the agencies that were used to bring messages to the human family.)
Qualifications of a Prophet- continued
The human being really had nothing to do with being chosen a prophet. It was God’s choice at every stage. Three points are noted:
A Prophet’s Work is Never Easy … continued
Ellen White had to give messages to a variety of people, no matter how hard it was to do.

Another young man, Hazen Foss, received visions about the time of the expected return of Christ in the fall of 1844. Foss was a relative by marriage to Ellen White. He refused to share his visions. He was warned by God that if he failed to tell what had been revealed to him, that the light would be given to someone else. When he still refused, he experienced a terrible feeling of being lost. Deciding to share what he had seen, he called a meeting, but when he stood before the audience, the visions had been taken away from him and he could not recall them.
Ellen White was given her first vision in December of 1844, and as she began to share what the Lord had shown her, Foss also recognized her vision as similar to the one he had been given. Both men lived on for some years, but neither one became a part of the Seventh-day Adventist Movement. (See Herbert E. Douglass, Messenger of the Lord, pp. 38, 39.)

The Story of Zerubbabel and Haggai the Prophet… continued
In vol. 4 of the SDA Bible Commentary, p. 1176, Ellen White comments specifically on this experience and says that when they decided to do what the Lord had asked, His message of reproof changed to words of encouragement. This is perhaps a reminder that when we decide to do what God asks, our perspective of what He expects changes, as well as His perspective. That is to say, what appeared to be messages of reproof before will be seen as messages sent to us in love. When we accept God’s way, following Him will become a joy rather than drudgery.
