2. INTRODUCTION
ANTIMICROBIAL SENSITIVITY
Antimicrobial sensitivity is the ability of an
antibiotic or a chemotherapeutic system to
interact with a microorganism and decrease its
rate of replication, and thereby eliminate the
colony.
HIGH FREQUENCY
ELECTROMAGNETIC FIELDS
The Electromagnetic Fields (CEM) are a
combination of electric and magnetic waves
that move simultaneously and spread to the
speed of light.
They are classified into two large groups:
Radiation ionizing and radiations non-
ionizing
The World Health Organization subdivides
the latter into:
• Extremely low frequency electromagnetic
fields (FEB, or ELF), Intermediate frequency
(IF) fields, High frequency electromagnetic
fields (EMF)
3. The relation between the high frequency magnetic
fields and the bacterial sensitivity is that the magnetic
fields in general have the capacity to decrese or not the
formation of bacterial colonies, since some generate
mutations in the bacterial DNA and therefore the
bacteria are much more sensitive or not to the
antimicrobials.
4. OBJECTIVE
• The aim of the present
study was to determine the
effect of electromagnetic
fields (900 and 1800 MHz),
i.e. the frequency produced
by mobile phones on the
growth and antibiotic
sensitivity of a variety of
bacteria.
5. MÉTODOS
BACTERIAS USADAS
• Staphylococcus aureus (ATCC 29213)
• Staphylococcus epidermidis (ATCC 25923)
• Pseudomonas aeruginosa (ATCC 27853)
EXPOSICIÓN A CAMPOS
ELECTROMAGNETICOS
1. Radiación electromagnética de dispositivo móvil
(Nokia).

• Amoxicilina (30 mg)

• Ciprofloxacina (5 mg)
• PRUEBA DE DIFUSION DE DISCOS
(ANTIBIOGRAMA)
Se usó para determinar la
susceptibilidad de las bacterias a los
antibióticos después de la
exposición a campos
electromagnéticos.

• Los patrones de ADN bacteriano

900 y 1800 MHz y los controles.
• Los resultados obtenidos para P.
aeruginosa por otro lado mostraron
diferencias entre el control y la
siguiente exposición a radiación de
900 MHz y 1800 MHz, apareciendo
más bandas después de la exposición
a 900 y 1800 MHz en comparación
con el control

13. DISCUSSION
AUTOR WHAT DID HE SAID YES OR NO
Potenza et al.
Results of non-invariant electrophoretic
patterns between XL-1 control cells of E.
coli and those exposed to the high
magnetic field (HSMF) in in vivo
experiments using random amplified
polymorphic DNA (RAPD-PCR).
Cellini et al.
Exposure to magnetic field radiation
induce normalized DNA alterations in
organisms with cellular protective
responses.
Strasak et al.
Concluded that the inhibitory effects on
bacterial growth increased with the
duration of exposure.
El-Sayed et al
The result of the field is maximum in the
first hours and then decreases,
indicating an adaptive response of the
cells that show the stress of the
magnetic field. Such an adaptive
response may be due to an increase in
heat shock proteins
14. CONCLUSIONS
1. We do not see any favorable result in the two
type of gram positive bacterias maybe because
the time of exposition that they use in the study
was to short.
2. This study could be helpful in the future, if they
continued study whith another tipe of bacteria
and another tipe of electromagnetic waves that
can damage us.
