I am a serial migrant who has moved through several countries, along a few decades. My migrations have coincided with a great acceleration in the globalisation in the world, which has revolutionised cultures, upended fortunes, and fed a parallel trend: a rising backlash against immigrants all over the developed countries. I contend that this nativist backlash has obscured the great opportunities that can be found in mining the experience of the migrant, to look for useful ways to deal with the increasing uncertainty, and consequent insecurity, felt by sedentary populations; doing so could help the non-migrant populations to break the link between uncertainty and utter insecurity, and better adapt to a rapidly changing life. It would also help with shifting the negative views of immigrants toward a realisation of their value for the host nations.
