Level 6: Conditional sentences - Type 1

1. Listos para un nuevo tema de la unidad 2 de nivel 6. En esta ocasión estudiaremos un
tema que si no menos importante muy útil para el habla cotidiano del idioma inglés.
Toca el turno a los condicionales, los cuales usaremos para decir algo que
probablemente suceda en el futuro o bien el presente, es decir una acción que puede
tener un resultado inmediato o puede tener un efecto en el futuro. Los condicionales
son 3, ahora mismo veremos el 1er Condicional el cual en ocasiones escucharas que
este se divide en 2 en el condicional cero y el condicional 1, aunque en ocasiones al
consultar algunos libros de gramática pueden manejarlo solo como condicional 1,
veamos en que consisten estos condicionales, su uso y estructura gramatical,
esperamos que sea sencillo trabajar para ti con los condicionales, recuerda que mas
adelante podrás aprender el 2º condicional y el 3er condicional.

2. CONDITIONAL SENTENCES TYPE 1
We use Conditional sentences type 1 to express something which is likely to happen in the present or future.
The first conditional describes a particular situation, whereas the zero conditional describes what happens in
general or a general truth
Ex: If you stay under the sun, you get burned
When we are thristy, we drink water
If we fall down, we stand up immediately
The first conditional describes things that I think are likely to happen in the future
Ex: If she studies harder, she will pass the exam (I think it’s possible she will study harder and so she´ll pass)
If it rains, I won’t go to the park
If I study today, I will go to the party tonight
She’ll be late if the train is delayed
She ‘ll miss the bus if she doesn’t leave soon.
IF + Simple Present , Simple Present
IF + Simple Present , will/can/must/should + verb (SIMPLE FORM)

3. Conditional Sentences type 1 IF/WHEN
As you could see the conditiomnal sentences consist of the if-clause and the main clause . When the if clause
is before the main clause, we separate the two clauses with a comma. We do not use a comma when the if
clause is after the main clause.
Example :
If it rains, I won’t go to the park ( future will)
I won’t go to the park if it rains
If it doesn´t rain, I can go to the park (modal verb)
If it doesn’t rain, go to the park (imperative )
When is used to refer to the time something is going to happen, while if refers to the possibility
of something happening.
Example: I’ll tell him when I see him (I will definitely see him )
I’ll tell him if I see him ( I may not see him)

5. Now let’s practice with a reading so as to see how conditional sentences are used. Use
the listening so as to practice pronunciation

7. Como pudiste ver los condicionales nos sirven como su nombre lo dice para condicionar o decir
que si algo sucede o no sucede ahora, entonces esta situación traerá repercusiones en el futuro,
como podemos observar en la nube de la conversación abajo. Esperamos que todo el tema haya
quedado claro, de lo contrario, recuerda que siempre cuentas con el apoyo del profesor a cargo
