Level 6: May, Might and Could

1. Bienvenido a una lección mas de nivel 6 en esta ocasión podrás hacer uso de tres de los
mas comunes verbos modales los cuales te servirán para poder expresar posibilidad o
probabilidad estos modales son muy importantes en el idioma inglés ya que los puedes
utilizar cuando necesitas indicar algo de lo que no estas muy seguro que sucederá o bien
algo que tiene mucha probabilidad de que suceda. Esperamos que sea sencillo para ti
aprender una lección más y que te sirva de mucha ayuda en un futuro.

2. MAY, MIGHT AND COULD
• We use could, may and might to express degrees of possibility. Many native speakers disagree on which one
expresses more or less certainty.
Here are some example that may help:
The restaurant may close. (It is likely that the restaurant will close)
The restaurant could close. (It is less likely that the restaurant will close)
The restaurant might close. (There is only a possibility that the restaurant will close but no one is very sure)
The speaker also shows degree of certainty or uncertainty through intonation and stress. If the speaker stresses
the modal verb, they are expressing more uncertainty than if they stress the main verb.
There are some characteristics you must take into consideration when using these modal verbs
 Are followed by the base form of the verb.
 Are the same in all person in the singular and plural.
 Do not form the question and negative forms with do.
 Express possibility in the present/future
We may /might/ could go to the Fun Park next week

4. Este es un tema muy sencillo porque prácticamente los tres modales significan lo mismo y los utilizamos para lo
mismo es solo que tienen distinto nivel de intensidad en cuanto a probabilidad, se pueden traducir como: quizá,
puede ser o es probable. Es importante que consideres lo que se te menciono en paréntesis frente a cada ejemplo
de los modales. Recuerda que en caso de tener alguna duda puedes contar con el apoyo de tu profesor quien con
gusto te apoyara . Como siempre aquí abajo te dejamos las respuestas al ejercicio, solo recuerda que es importante
que los hagas primero antes de revisar las respuestas, sobre todo para saber que es lo que no esta quedando claro
