No había
soportar muchas aflicciones innecesarias.
Aterran a nuestras almas cuando nos acercamos;
5. Todavía nos encogemos buscando la vida,
Afectos a nuestra prisión y a nuestro barro."
"¿Cómo podremos librarnos de este temor?" Bien, no tratemos
No me gustaría
Vamos, conocemos a ciertas
No
pueden soportar la idea de deshacerse de sus gozos presentes;

6. Release those who through fear of death, Life, Peace
It's very natural for man to be afraid of death, therefore, originally, was not created to die. When Adam
and Eve were placed in the Garden of Eden in the beginning, they were in such a condition that might
have remained there for myriads of years, if they had kept their integrity. There was no reason for the
fallen man should die; but now that we have sinned, seed of corruption is in our flesh, and it is
established that men must die.
However, as if the body knew that was not according to the first decree from heaven had to succumb to
the earth and to the worm, he has a natural reluctance to return to his last bed. And this fear of death,
as is natural, is not bad. In fact, it serves a higher purpose in the economy of humanity, because there
would be many people tempted to put an end to this mortal life, were it not for the fear of death. But
putting an end to his life by his own hand would be a terrible fact; He proves that it was not a child of
God, because "You know that no murderer has eternal life abiding in him." I mean, of course, if such act
was carried out by someone in possession of his senses; I'm not judging those who have lost their
reason, and are not responsible for their actions. If someone in your sober sense commit suicide, we
would have no hope of eternal life for him. However many would commit suicide if not recorded
because they fear what would prove to put an end to its existence.
Here you can see that the fear of death serves a good purpose, and is, in itself, good; but you can easily
go beyond the point of being good, to the region where it becomes an evil; and I have no doubt that
many pious people are imbued with a fear of death that is very bad, and it produces very harmful
effects. Some, no doubt, have been prevented from confessing Christ, and follow him fully, because of
the fear of death; maybe not so much now as in the days of the martyrs. Back then, there were heroic
spirits who went voluntarily to the fire, or any other painful form of death that decreed the tyrant in
turn, and happily, with shouts of victory, gave their lives not considered beautiful for themselves,
because Jesus Christ.
But there were timid spirits who shunned the ordeal; They loved life and feared death, especially in the
terrible ways in which they would be imposed. This flight would be wrong for any of us; if the fear of
death lead us to dishonor Christ, we would be guilty of mortal sin. If a man resolved to follow Christ, you
must not love their own lives more compared to the love of Jesus Christ, but must be consenting to
deliver because of Him who gave His life on the cross for us.
The fear of death also motivates many Christians to endure many unnecessary sufferings. They are sick
and dying, and instead of having a calm and serene state of mind, as they should have it, are troubled
and burdened greatly. Even when they are well, it sometimes happens that, when you sit and think
7. about his last hours, become depressed and worried. Now, this affliction is an affliction of the flesh to be
avoided; we must seek the grace to conquer this affliction, so that we do not have the sorrow of the
world produces death.
This fear of death is very dishonorable to God. It would seem that you can trust him when there is good
weather, but during storms; you can believe in Him when you are well and are strong, but you can not
trust Him when you fail the health and strength. Never forget what David said, "God, our God will save
us, and the Lord God belong the issues of death." Greatly glorify God when we can say with Job, "Lo,
though he slay me, I hope in him;" but if we are afraid to die, it would appear that we did not have full
confidence in God, or that perfect towards Him that love casts out fear.
And this fear of death also tends to dishonor much to our holy religion in the eyes of those who are not
believers in Jesus. The calmness with which the Christian expects an end, and even the holy joy with
which he anticipates, is one of the things that the wicked can not understand; and even if you do not
confess, they are highly impressed by this, and often feel their hearts yearn to know this blessed secret
that makes Christians expect his last days on earth with so jovial spirit. The Christian who contemplates
death with joy, is a living sermon. It is a better defense of the Gospel that all the works that Butler and
Paley and the other writers of Christian evidences, have ever compiled. From here, dear friends, that the
Church of Christ lose this defense, and the world lost this evidence, when we turbamos by fear of death.
This fear should not be in the Christian; if you ever feel, they should fight him to beat him.
"Why startle, or why fear death?
What fearful worms we mortals!
Death is the door to unlimited joy,
And yet we feel a dread going there.
The pain, the groans, the dying throes,
Terrify our souls as we approached;
We shrug still looking for life,
Our affections and our mud prison. "
8. "How can we get rid of this fear?" Well, never try to get rid of it, as some do, forgetting completely to
death. That would live like the beasts that perish; they live their little day here, without thinking beyond
the present. The ox and sheep get slaughtered without the power to look beyond the present life. I
would not achieve peace of mind, putting the level of the "cattle lowering and submissive." However in
many men the only peace springs from thoughtlessness; but that's a sad peace that can not withstand
the study and consideration. Come on, we know certain people who can be brave when accompanied,
and even come to blaspheme God; but put them alone in a room, oblíguenlos to think in solitude during
a single hour, and they could be condemned to abject poverty. They can not bear to get rid of their joys
present; venturing into another world seems such a risky business, preferring to forget all about it, and
close their eyes to all thoughts beyond this life.
