consideraremos adjetivo corto (SHORT ADJECTIVE)
y le añadiremos “er” seguido de “than”.
i.e. fast + er = faster than
happy + er= happier than
The squirrel is smaller
than the tiger
5. Regla 2: si un adjetivo corto termina en
consonante + vocal + consonante, se dobla la
última consonante antes de poner “er”
i.e. big + er = bigger than
thin + er= thinner than
Peter is fatter than
Louise.
6. Regla 3: si un adjetivo corto termina en
“y”, esta se convierte en “i” cuando
añadimos “er”. Es decir, tendremos “ier”
i.e. easy + er = easier than
heavy + er= heavier than
The girl is
happier than
the boy.
largo (LONG ADJECTIVE) y añadiremos
“more” delante y “than” detrás.
i.e. modern + more = more modern than
expensive + more = more expensive than
Beauty is more beautiful
than Beast
8. Es como una fórmula de
matemáticas…
• A is short adjective + er than B
• Madrid is bigger than Ciudad Real
• Paul Gasol is taller than Rafa Nadal
existen adjetivos irregulares (IRREGULAR
memoria.
Good = Gooder Better
Bad = Badder Worse
My car is better than
your car.
Your car is worse
than my car.
10. SuperlativesSuperlatives
El superlativo se usa para
comparar más de dos cosas y
decir que una tiene una
cualidad por encima del
resto.
Maggie is the
youngest in
the family.
i.e. fast + est = the fastest
happy + est = the happiest
The squirrel is
the smallest.
The dinosaur is
the largest.
13. Regla 2: Si un adjetivo termina en
consonante + vocal + consonante, se
dobla la última consonante antes de
añadir “est”
i.e. big + est = the biggest
thin + est = the thinnest
Peter isPeter is thethe fatfattesttest
in the family.in the family.
i.e. easy + est = the easiest
heavy + est= the heaviest
The girl is the
happiest.
“the most” delante.
i.e. modern + the most = the most modern
expensive + the most = the most expensive
Beauty is the most
beautiful.
16. Regla 5: Aquí también tenemos
que tener en cuenta los
irregulares
Good = the best
Bad = the worst
The red car is the best
17. Recuerda:
Las reglas gramaticales para
comparativo y superlativo son más
complicadas de lo que hemos visto
en clase, pero utilizando el truco
de las letras se simplifica
bastante. No es una regla universal
ni perfecta, sólo es una ayuda para
entender mejor el comparativo y
superlativo.
