2. La idea de fusionar las fuerzas del arte, las artesanías y el diseño para desarrollar objetos de alto nivel técnico/ estético no es innovadora. Si nos remontamos a la Inglaterra de mediados del Siglo XIX, nos encontramos con el movimiento Arts & Crafts cuyo representante principal fue el artesano, escritor, impresor y activista político William Morris. Arts & Crafts intentó reivindicar la dignidad social y estética del diseño y las artes aplicadas entendiendo que su valor no era menor que el del “ arte por el arte”. La separación de la esfera del arte a la de la vida cotidiana intentó suprimirse a través de la unión de la funcionalidad y la estética. Tanto obras arquitectónicas como objetos utilitarios eran concebidos como objetos bellos y eran realizados con una manufactura de excelencia. Edificios y objetos cubrían de esta forma un rol funcional y espiritual (el goce estético). Arts & Crafts tuvo gran influencia en la arquitectura y las artes aplicadas de finales del Siglo XIX y sus bases teóricas serían tomadas en cuenta unas décadas más tarde por el arquitecto alemán Walter Gropius para la concepción y fundación de la Bauhaus. The idea to fuse the forces of the art, the crafts and the design to develop objects of high aesthetic technical level is not (innovate) new. If we go back to England in the middle of nineteen century, we´ll meet Arts & Crafts´s movement whose main representative was the craftsman, writer, printer and political activist William Morris. Arts & Crafts tried to revindicate the social and aestethic dignity of the design and the applied arts being understood that its value was not minor than the "art by the art". The separation of the art´s sphere to the one of the daily life tried to suppress through the union of the functionality and the aesthetic one. Architectonic works and utilitarian objects were conceived as beautiful objects and were made with a manufacture of excellence. This way buildings and objects covered a functional and spiritual roll (the aesthetic enjoyment). Arts & Crafts had great influence in the architecture and the applied arts of end of Century XIX and their theoretical bases would be taken into account decades later by the German architect Walter Gropius for the conception and foundation of the Bauhaus.

El programa de la Bauhaus bregaba igualmente por una renovada unidad de las artes y la vida, pero a diferencia del movimiento predecesor, postulaba que la técnica y la industria eran parte fundamental de la vida moderna. Por lo tanto el “artista” de esta vida moderna debía ser integral, capaz de unir en su acto creativo aspectos espirituales, mentales, técnicos e industriales. Este ideal se vio corporizado en personas como Wassily Kandinsky, Paul Klee, Laszlo Moholy-Nagy, Oskar Schlemmer quienes paralelamente al desarrollo de su obra pictórica, trabajaron en problemas teóricos del arte, en diseño y manufactura de alfombras, en escenografía, confección de marionetas y desarrollo de tipografías respectivamente. E sa nueva unión entre vida, arte e industria propulsada desde la escuela alemana, influenció determinantemente la arquitectura del Siglo XX, dio nacimiento al diseño gráfico e industrial como disciplinas específicas y nos dejó la imagen del artista integral como un modelo digno y fructífero. The program of the Bauhaus also struggled by one renewed unit of the arts and the life, but unlike the predecessor movement, it postulated that the technique and the industry were fundamental part of the modern life. Therefore the "artist" of this modern life had to be integral, he should be able to get together mental, technical and industrial aspects in his creative act. This ideal was materialized in people like Wassily Kandinsky, Paul Klee, Laszlo Moholy-Nagy, Oskar Schlemmer who parallelly to the development of their pictorial work, worked in theoretical problems of the art, design and anufacture of carpets, in stage scene, marionette preparation and development of typographies respectively. That new union between life, art and industry driven from the German school, influenced the architecture of Century XX, gave birth to the graphical and industrial design with specific disciplines and left the image of the integral artist like a worthy and fructiferous model.

4. Esta concepción integral del arte es la que alimenta también al proyecto “ El Maduradero”. No se trata en este caso de un programa al que los participantes deban responder estética o ideológicamente, tampoco se trata de proponer un movimiento renovador de la sociedad , ni de establecer nuevas categorías del ser “ artista”. El proyecto tiene que ver con la suma del trabajo de distintos creadores que desarrollan libremente su tarea. Los pintores, escultores y dibujantes desarrollan su imagen personal y ésta sirve de fuente iconográfica para el trabajo de diseñadores y artesanos. Esta división de roles y trabajos dista de ser excluyente, también, así como los míticos integrantes de la Bauhaus, hay artistas integrales que despliegan su capacidad creativa y técnica en más de un ámbito. El fin común es realizar objetos utilitarios de alta calidad técnico/estética que no solo cubran una necesidad funcional, sino que posean la fuerza y la magia resultante del arduo trabajo espiritual, intelectual y técnico que caracteriza el quehacer artístico. Lic.Carolina Pretell This integral conception of the art is the one that also feeds the project "the Maduradero”. In this case it´s not about a program to which the participants must respond aesthetically or ideologically, either is to propose a renovation movement of the society, or to establish new categories of the being "artist". The project is about the sum of the work of different creators who develop their task freely. The painters, esculptors and drawers develop their personal image and this one serves as iconographical source for the work of designers and craftsmen. This work and rolls division it´s not excluding, also, like the mythical members of the Bauhaus, are integral artists who unfold their creative and technical capacity in more of a scope. The common purpose is to make utilitarian objects of high technical/aesthetic quality that nonsingle cover a functional necessity, but that they have the power and the magic that comes from the arduous spiritual, intellectual and technical work that characterizes the artistic task.
