El peso del horno induce una fuerza axial hacia abajo debido a la inclinación del horno
Q: peso total del horno

la inclinación del horno
Q = 1200 t para L=68 m y ∅=4.2 m

horno hacia abajo
Los rodillos tienen que ser
lubricados con grafito
Notas del editor
Kiln supplier are using different standard value to evaluate the shimming for each tires
But you can verify it, according to the actual operational condition, with the following method:
Trend the temperature of both kiln tire and shell during warm-up
2. Find the maximum difference of temperature
One has to consider that the measured temperature are surface temperature.
Especially on the tire the real expansion is less
because the average temperature (with the colder core) is less
3. Take a security factor of 1.2 on this temperature difference (Temp Admissible)
4. Calculate the needed relative movement in operation (exact calculation of 10 - 15 mm)
a)for the cold status
Sto = Ds . t . Temp Admissible
b)for normal operation
U : the standard relative movement you want to calculate for normal operation
(the precise value for 10 – 15 mm)
U = . (Sto + (Ds+ Sto) . t . Temp in normal operation for tire
- Ds . t . Temp in normal operation for shell)
t = 11.8 e-6 m/m/°C
Example :
Ds = 5000, Temp Admissible = 230°C, Sto = 13.5mm Uo=42mm
for a temperature in normal operation: shell=400°C, tire= 250°C X=14.7mm
the relative movement in normal operation should be 14.7mm to avoid creeping in warm-up
Be careful, that deformation for the old kilns is maximum at 100 mm from the old welds
So normally in the area you would cut the shell.
The diameter should then be carefully check at the real cutting place.
The total thrust to be counter-balance is not so big, even with a bigger kiln it will only reach maybe 4 times this value for maybe twice more rollers.
Evaluation of retention ring of the roller shaft
The method consists of visually reviewing all thrust bearing collar of rollers and registering the conditions found systematically.
The interpretation of the results indicates the rollers with tactically important position and allows to process instructions of adjustment.
Thrust bearing collar of rollers are observed visually with a lantern through the inspection window
Before opening the cover, the environs and the cover must be cleaned, care must be taken that during the inspection nothing falls into the bearing.
Therefore, the inspector shall not have any loose pieces susceptible to drop into the bearing.
The movable parts of the roller represent a danger, and the necessary precautions must be taken.
The position of thrust bearing collar of roller is evaluated based on the oil film thickness, and if it is possible by the temperature, as it is appraised in the previous figure.
The values of temperature can be evaluated by an inspector with experience in this field.
Methods of control of the axial thrust.
The ‘balance’ of the kiln, e. g. the balance between the axial force of the kiln (produced by the gravity force), against the force of the thrust rollers and the reactions in the support rollers, can be obtained in several ways:
Using additional thrust rollers, which are driven with hydraulic controls, and/or.
Skewing support rollers, this produce an opposing force to the axial push
Nevertheless, all these options are not equally reliable, as it is verified by:
· Frequent breakage of thrust rollers.
· Overheat in the bearings of the support rollers and
· Excessive wearing down in the facing surface between tire and roller.
It becomes evident that the axial push in a support roller is generated by the friction forces and are created whenever the axes of the tire and the roller are not parallel
The maximum value of these forces is equal to the product of the coefficient of friction, ms, between both material in contact and the perpendicular force to the surface at issue.
Axial push by skewed position of the rollers
The support rollers are skewed respectively to the axis of the kiln, to balance the downhill thrust due to the gravity.
By variation of the coefficient of friction of the roller surfaces (lubrication), the kiln can move upwards and downwards in intervals previously established.
Lubrication
Lubrication of rollers have to be made with graphite blocks, in this case the change in lubrication coefficient is made by putting and removing the graphite block on regular intervals.
The use of oil on the surfaces tire/ roller is frequent, to remedy hot bearings in the rollers.
This practice evidently reduces the coefficient of friction and consequently the axial load in the bearings.
The negative effect of the oil lubrication, is that the oil increases the risk of damages in the facing surfaces
by the generation of extremely high hydrostatic pressures, that cause micro cracks, that later become superficial faults.
It is therefore prohibited to use oil to change the friction coefficient on a regular basis.
Friction forces
In the rotatory kilns of the cement plants, the magnitude of the friction forces are equal to:
ARX = m x QRX x cos(30°) = 0.4 X QRX
Where QRX represents the weight of the shell, the refractory, the material in process and the coolers of satellite if they exist on a roller X. So QRX can reach a value between 100t to 300t and ARX a value of 40t to 120t per roller.
As we have seen in the previous slide, it is almost what is needed for the whole kiln axial thrust.
So the friction force can be much more important than what is really needed to balance the kiln.
This is can lead to a considerable force, that can easily destroy: Rollers of support, Thrust rollers, Bearings of rollers, Anchorage, Foundations.
The true cause for an excessive axial push, is a mechanic unbalance of the kiln.
The solution is then to adjust the position of the rollers in order to reduce the force that lead to the equilibrium
Thrust rollers in combination with the skewed the rollers
One or two thrust rollers are combined with the skewed rollers to give a force in direction of the material entrance, maintaining the kiln floating
To minimize the forces that lead to the equilibrium, no rollers should be skewed to push the kiln downward.
The thrust rollers are not designed to support alone all the downward push of the kiln.
Duration of the uphill movement should never be less than 2 hours
Duration of the uphill movement should never be less than 6 hours
Frequency of movement can go from 8 hours (min) to 24 hours or more. It is then important to enable a follow up of the movement, making easy to the inspectors and production people to visualize the movement.
