Purpose:
Answer the questions Whom? or What? in relationship to the verb of a sentence.
Receives the action of the verb
Keeps us from repeating ourselves
Examples:
I have the books. Yo tengo los libros.
Identify subject, verb, and direct object
S: I Yo
V: have. tengo (from tener)
What? The books. libros
I have them Yo los tengo
S: I Yo
V: have tengo
What? them los (the books, them)
36. EN ESPAÑOL
In Spanish, direct object pronouns replace direct objects. The direct
object pronoun goes directly in front of the conjugated verb.
Ayer compré libros. (Yesterday I bought books.)
Los compré ayer. (I bought them yesterday.)
When the direct object is a specific person or place, an a is always
placed before it.
José invitó a Gloria. - José invited Gloria.
María llevó a sus padres al cine. - María took her parents to the movies.
