Ingenieros de Caminos de
Madrid.

se integró en lo que luego sería la
Universidad Politécnica de Madrid.

3. The rate of construccion of substructures
( motorways,high speed train platforms and
canals ) is inscreasing in Spain.leaving aside
the cost problem, owing the environmental
reasons there is a tendency to compensate
the earth movement. This compels to use
expansive or collapsing material in
embankments;this paper presents the
research on these materials carried on at the
departament of Continuum Mechanics of the
University of Seville, including suction
controlled test. The use of marginal materials
in the core of an embankment has been
studied.
