repaso de los verbos en inglés

1. 1.- Modal verbs.
Los verbos modales son una categoría de verbos auxiliares, también se llaman modales
auxiliares o simplemente modales. Expresan el modo de un verbo: la capacidad, la posibilidad, la
necesidad u otra condición del verbo principal. Estos verbos se usan con verbos principales para
formar afirmaciones negaciones o preguntas. No tienen conjugaciones ni tiempo y no se pueden
usar sin verbo principal. En inglés, el verbo principal siempre queda en forma infinitiva sin to,
excepto el modal ought.
Hay diez verbos modales en inglés:
a) Can: Puedo/ sé
b) May: puede qué, podría quizá. Se usa para expresar possibility/permission
c) Will: modifica al verbo que sigue ej: She will go= ella irá
d) Shall: es igual a will pero ya no se usa mucho en inglés moderno.
e) Must: deber. Ej: I must (debo) Obligation/ assumption (obligación más fuerte que should.
f) Could: pude podría
g) Might: Podría quizá, se usa para expresar remota posibilidad (casi igual que may)
h) Would: Modifica el verbo que le sigue. Ej: I would go = iría She would work = ella trabajaría
i) Should: debería, se usa para expresar una obligación menor.
j) Ought to: debería se usa de forma similar a should.

4.- Conditionals: condicionales.
A) Condicional cero: (Zero Conditional, también -Type 0) Se refiere a una situación que es siempre
verdadera (verdades universales):

B) Condicional primero: (first Conditional, también -Type I) Se forma con if + simple present +
simple future. Se emplea cuando una situación es real o posible:
If it rains today, I'll stay at home = Si llueve hoy, me quedaré en casa.

If it rains today, I'll stay at home
C) Condicional segundo: (second Conditional, también -Type II) Se refiere a una situación
hipotética y se forma según la estructura if + simple past + simple condicional.
If I won the lottery, I would travel around the world = Si ganara la lotería, viajaría por todo el
mundo.

If I won the lottery, I would travel around the world.
D) Condicional tercero: (Third Conditional, también -Type III) Se refiere a una situación hipotética
del pasado y se forma según la estructura: if + past perfect + conditional perfect.
If I had won the lottery, I would have traveled around the world.
Si hubiera ganada la lotería, habría viajado por todo el mundo.
