Pour les antibiogrammes, ces temps sont inférieurs à 5h pour les Staph Oxa R et les Entérobactéries, un peu plus long pour les non fermentants, mais dans tous les cas, beaucoup plus rapides que les méthodes traditionnelles (18h - 24h).
Ces délais de réponse sont particulièrement intéressants pour les services chauds en terme d’adaptation des traitements ou de gestion des isolements.
A blood culture is a laboratory test in which blood, taken from the patient, is inoculated into bottles containing culture media to determine whether infection-causing microorganisms (bacteria or fungi) have invaded the patient’s bloodstream.
This study was the most recent and most complete comparison of BacT/ALERT FAN media with BACTEC 9000 Resin media, published in a scientific journal. It compared all four bottles and studied the influence of delayed entry on the sensitivity of the systems. As shown in this table, BacT/ALERT recovered significantly more Enterobacteriaceae and Total organisms. Not shown in this slide, but published in the original article is that BacT/ALERT showed no loss of sensitivity after delayed entry, while the BACTEC did.
These data were presented at the latest General Meeting of the American Society of Microbiology (May 2002, Salt Lake City). A FAN media pair is compared to a Bactec 9000 Resin Aerobic – Lytic Anaerobic combination. Basically, the differences were very small. Nevertheless, we were surprised to see that the difference in yeasts (in favor of BacT/ALERT) was not statistically different.
This study compared the BacT/ALERT and the ESP system (currently sold by Trek Diagnostics). As you can see in this table, BacT/ALERT clearly outperformed ESP.
