HISTORICAL CONTEXT:
BAROQUE
The Baroque is the literary period that appears after the
Renaissance and covers from the end of s. XVI until the last years
os s.XVII.
The Renaissance,as you know wa a time of political and economic
slplendor forSpain. The Baroque, however, arises when it begins to lose
its political heegemony in the world and a great economic crisis leads
the populaton towards proverty, creating great discomfort among
citizens.
Literature echoes this situation and we see how naturalness and
harmony of the Renaissance open the way to a pessimistic conception
of life, a faithful reflection of the pessimism that regned in society, cause
by hunger, war and misery tht were leaving ownimg it.
The most important characteristic of the literature of the time are, from
and ideological perpective:la melancolia, sadness and devaluation of
the earhly, comparing life with a dream that will awaken with death. As
for formality, its hallmark is artificiality and recharge.

Lope Félix de Vega Carpio was born in Madrid from humble parents. His

His life was very risky. In particular, he followed a lie full of adventure Loving,

As for life and literary production, itwas certainly a phenomenon of
productivity. He wrote in all literary genres: novels,dramas and poerty, Both

Despite all this, he is know especially for this copius production Dramatic.
Their dramas,compared to those of their cotemporaries, stand out by the

CANCIÓN
¡Oh libertad preciosa,
no comparada al oro,
ni al bien mayor de la espaciosa tierra,
más rica y más gozosa
que el precioso tesoro
que el mar del sur entre su nácar cierra;
con armas, sangre y guerra,
con las vidas y famas,
conquistado en el mundo;
paz dulce, amor profundo
que el mar aparta y a tu bien nos llamas;
en ti sola se anida
oro, tesoro, paz, bien, gloria y vida!
Cuando de las humanas
tinieblas vi el cielo
la luz, principio de mis dulces días,
aquellas tres hermanas
que nuestro humano velo
tejiendo, llevan por inciertas vías,
las duras penas mías
trocaron en la gloria
que en libertad poseo,
con siempre igual deseo,
donde verá por mi dichosa historia
quien más leyere en ella
que es dulce libertad lo menos della.
Cuando la aurora baña
con el rocío
de aljófar celestial el monte y prado,
salgo de mi cabaña,
riberas de este río,
a dar el nuevo pasto a mi ganado,
y cuando el sol dorado
muestra sus fuerzas graves,
al sueño el pecho inclino
debajo un sauce o pino,
oyendo el son de las parleras aves
o ya gozando el aura
donde el perdido aliento se restaura.
Aquí la verde pera
con la manzana fermosa,
de gualda y roja sangre matizada,
y de color rosa
la cermeña olorosa
tengo, y la endrina de color morada;
aquí de la enramada
parra que el olmo enlaza,
melosas uvas cojo;
y en cantidad recojo,
al tiempo que las ramas desenlaza
el caluroso estío,
membrillos que coronan este río.
No me da descontento
el hábito costoso
que de lascivo el pecho noble infama;
es mi dulce sustento
del campo generoso
estas silvestres frutas que derrama;
mi regalada cama,
de blanda pieles y hojas,
que algún rey la envidiara,
y de ti, fuente clara,
que, bullendo, el arena y agua arrojas,
estos cristales puros,
sustentos pobres, pero bien seguros.
Estése el cortesano
procurando a su gusto
la blanda cama y el mejor sustento;
bese la ingrata mano
POBRE BARQUILLA MÍA
¡Pobre barquilla mía,
entre peñascos rota,
sin velas desvela,
y entre las olas sola!
¿Adónde vas perdida?
¿Adónde, di, te engolfas?
Que no hay deseos cuerdos
con esperanzas locas.
Como las altas naves,
te apartas animosa
de la vecina tierra,
y al fiero mar te arrojas.
Igual en las fortunas,
mayor en las congojas,
pequeña en la defensas,
incitas a las ondas.
Advierte que te llevan
a dar entre las rocas
de la soberbia envidia,
naufragio de las honras.
Cuando por las riberas
andabas costa a costa,
nunca del mar temiste
las ira procelosas.
Segura navegabas,
que por la tierra propia
nunca el peligro es mucho
adonde el agua es poca.
Verdad es que en la patria
no es la virtud dichosa,
ni se estima la perla
hasta dejar la concha.
Dirás que muchas barcas
con el favor en popa,
saliendo desdichadas,
volvieron venturosas.
No mires los ejemplos
de las que van y tornan,
que a muchas ha perdido
la dicha de las otras.
¿Quién te engañó, barquilla?
Vuelve, vuelve la proa:
que presumir de nave
fortunas ocasiona.
¿Qué jarcias te entretejen?
¿Qué ricas banderolas
azote son del viento
y de las aguas sombra?
¿ en qué gavia descubres,
del árbol alta copa,
la tierra en perspectiva,
del mar incultas orlas?
¿Qué importa que te ciñan
ramas verde o rojas,
que en selvas de corales
salados césped brota?
Laureles de la orilla
solamente coronan
navíos de alto bordo
que jarcias de oro adornan.
Pasaron ya los tiempos
cuando, lamiendo rosas,
el céfiro bullía
y suspiraba aromas.
Ya fieros huracanes
Cuando de rojo nácar
Al bello sol que adoro
enjuta ya la ropa,
nos daba una cabaña
la cama de sus hojas.
Esposo me llamaba,
yo la llamaba esposa,
parándose de envidia
la celestial antorcha.
Quedad sobre la
arena,
inútiles escotas,
que no ha menester
velas
quien a su bien torna.
Si con eternas plantas
las fijas luces doras,
¡oh dueño de mi
barca!,
y en dulce paz
reposas
Merezca que le pidas
al bien que eterno
gozas
que adonde estás me
lleve,
más pura y más
hermosa.
Mi honesto amor te
obligue,
que no es digna
victoria
para quejas humanas
ser las deidades
sordas.
Mas, ¡ay!, que no me
escuchas.
pero la vida es corta:
viviendo, todo falta;
muriendo, todo sobra

Ir y quedarse, y con quedar partirse
Ir y quedarse, y con quedar partirse,
partir sin alma y ir con alma ajena, oír
la dulce voz de una sirena y no poder
del árbol desasirse;
arder como la vela y consumirse
haciendo torres sobre tierna arena;
caer de un cielo, y ser demonio en
pena, y de serlo jamás arrepentirse;
hablar entre las mudas soledades,
pedir pues resta sobre fe paciencia, y
lo que es temporal llamar eterno;
creer sospechas y negar verdades,
el resplandor con que los cielos dora;
dajad la arquilla, no os toquéis, señora,
tóquese la vejez de vuestra tía.
Mejor luce el jazmín, mejor la rosa
por el revuelto pelo en la nevada
columna de marfil, garganta hermosa.
Para la noche estáis mejor tocada;
que no anocheceréis tan aliñosa
como hoy amanecéis desaliñada.

Epilogue
Works by Lope de Vega the work and biography of Lope de Vega present a great
locking, and both were of an almost abnormal exuberance. Like other writers of his
time, he cultivated all literary genres.
The first novel he wrote, The Arcadia (1598), is a pastoral work in which he included
numerous poems. In the Pastors of Bethlehem (1612), another pastoral novel but "to
the divine", included, again, numerous sacred poems. Among these two appeared the
Byzantine novel The Pilgrim in his homeland (1604), which includes four sacramental
cars. Filomena and Circe contain four short novels of the type Italianate, dedicated to
Marta de Nevados. In the tradition of the Matchmaker, the humanistic comedy in vulgar
language, the Dorotea ascribes, where she narrates her frustrated youthful loves with
Elena Osorio. His poetic work was served in all possible ways; He was equally attracted
to the popular lyric and the Culterana of Luis de Góngora, although, in general, he
defended the.
