Este documento resume las primeras teorías sociológicas urbanas de los siglos XIX y XX en EE.UU., incluyendo las críticas a los suburbios y las condiciones de vida en las ciudades. También describe el surgimiento de la planificación urbana y teorías como la de las áreas naturales de la ciudad de Ernest Burgess. Finalmente, resume debates recientes sobre suburbanización, nuevos urbanismos y las ciudades fortificadas.

Modelo concéntrico de ciudad
Extensión en forma de círculos concéntricos que determinan las
sucesivas zonas urbanas de extensión y el tipo de áreas
diferenciadas.
Cualquier ciudad dentro de este “esquema universal”.

natural areas - área geográfica caracterizada por una individualidad física y
cultural dada por los individuos que viven dentro de ellas.
1880 - California, Control sobre la expansión de lavanderías chinas.
1916 - New York, determinan las ordenanzas de Zonificación.
Regulación del uso privado de la propiedad con la finalidad de garantizar “la salud, la seguridad, la moral, la comodidad, la utilidad y el bienestar de la comunidad”.
