Ebstein's anomaly is a congenital heart defect that affects the tricuspid valve and right ventricle. It presents in neonates as hydrops, cyanosis, or both, and has a high rate of fetal death. Surgical options for neonates include initial treatment with PGE1 followed by either a shunt or tricuspid valve repair depending on whether cyanosis persists or improves. A Starnes procedure may be needed if there is also right heart failure and cyanosis. Patching the tricuspid valve is an option if there is right ventricular outflow tract obstruction.
