PLEASE READ THIS DOCUMENT CAREFULLY BEFORE USING THE SOFTWARE. BY USING THE SOFTWARE, YOU AGREE TO BE BOUND BY THE TERMS OF THIS AGREEMENT. IF YOU DO NOT
AGREE TO THE TERMS OF THE AGREEMENT, DO NOT OPEN THE SEALED DISK PACKAGE, INSTALL OR USE THE SOFTWARE. PROMPTLY RETURN, WITHIN 15 DAYS, THE SOFTWARE, ALL
RELATED DOCUMENTATION AND ACCOMPANYING ITEMS TO THE PLACE OF ACQUISITION FOR A FULL REFUND.
This is a legal agreement between you and Creative Technology Ltd. and
its subsidiaries (“Creative”). This Agreement states the terms and
conditions upon which Creative offers to license the software sealed in the
disk package together with all related documentation and accompanying
items including, but not limited to, the executable programs, drivers,
libraries and data files associated with such programs (collectively, the
“Software”).
LICENSE
1. Grant of License
The Software is licensed, not sold, to you for use only under the terms
of this Agreement. You own the disk or other media on which the
Software is originally or subsequently recorded or fixed; but, as
between you and Creative (and, to the extent applicable, its licensors),
Creative retains all title to and ownership of the Software and reserves
all rights not expressly granted to you.
2. For Use on a Single Computer
The Software may be used only on a single computer by a single user
at any time. You may transfer the machine-readable portion of the
Software from one computer to another computer, provided that (a) the
Software (including any portion or copy thereof) is erased from the first
computer and (b) there is no possibility that the Software will be used
on more than one computer at a time.
3. Stand-Alone Basis
You may use the Software only on a stand-alone basis, such that the
Software and the functions it provides are accessible only to persons
who are physically present at the location of the computer on which the
Software is loaded. You may not allow the Software or its functions to
be accessed remotely, or transmit all or any portion of the Software
through any network or communication line.
4. Copyright
The Software is owned by Creative and/or its licensees and is protected
by United States copyright laws and international treaty provisions.
You may not remove the copyright notice from any copy of the
Software or any copy of the written materials, if any, accompanying the
Software.
5. One Archival Copy
You may make one (1) archival copy of the machine-readable portion
of the Software for backup purposes only in support of your use of the
Software on a single computer, provided that you reproduce on the copy
all copyright and other proprietary rights notices included on the
originals of the Software.
6. No Merger or Integration
You may not merge any portion of the Software into, or integrate any
portion of the Software with, any other program, except to the extent
expressly permitted by the laws of the jurisdiction where you are
located. Any portion of the Software merged into or integrated with
another program, if any, will continue to be subject to the terms and
conditions of this Agreement, and you must reproduce on the merged
or integrated portion all copyright and other proprietary rights notices
included in the originals of the Software.
7. Network Version
If you have purchased a “network” version of the Software, this
Agreement applies to the installation of the Software on a single “file
server”. It may not be copied onto multiple systems. Each “node”
connected to the “file server” must also have its own license of a “node
copy” of the Software, which becomes a license only for that specific
“node”.
8. Transfer of License
You may transfer your license of the Software, provided that (a) you
transfer all portions of the Software or copies thereof, (b) you do not
retain any portion of the Software or any copy thereof, and (c) the
transferee reads and agrees to be bound by the terms and conditions of
this Agreement.
9. Limitations on Using, Copying, and Modifying the Software
Except to the extent expressly permitted by this Agreement or by the
laws of the jurisdiction where you acquired the Software, you may not
use, copy or modify the Software. Nor may you sub-license any of your
rights under this Agreement.
10.Decompiling, Disassembling, or Reverse Engineering
You acknowledge that the Software contains trade secrets and other
proprietary information of Creative and its licensors. Except to the
extent expressly permitted by this Agreement or by the laws of the
jurisdiction where you are located, you may not decompile,
disassemble or otherwise reverse engineer the Software, or engage in
any other activities to obtain underlying information that is not visible
to the user in connection with normal use of the Software.
In particular, you agree not for any purpose to transmit the Software or
display the Software's object code on any computer screen or to make
any hardcopy memory dumps of the Software's object code. If you
believe you require information related to the interoperability of the
Software with other programs, you shall not decompile or disassemble
the Software to obtain such information, and you agree to request such
information from Creative at the address listed below. Upon receiving
such a request, Creative shall determine whether you require such
information for a legitimate purpose and, if so, Creative will provide
such information to you within a reasonable time and on reasonable
conditions.
In any event, you will notify Creative of any information derived from
reverse engineering or such other activities, and the results thereof will
constitute the confidential information of Creative that may be used
only in connection with the Software.
TERMINATION
The license granted to you is effective until terminated. You may terminate
it at any time by returning the Software (including any portions or copies
thereof) to Creative. The license will also terminate automatically without
any notice from Creative if you fail to comply with any term or condition
of this Agreement. You agree upon such termination to return the Software
(including any portions or copies thereof) to Creative. Upon termination,
Creative may also enforce any rights provided by law. The provisions of
this Agreement that protect the proprietary rights of Creative will continue
in force after termination.
LIMITED WARRANTY
Creative warrants, as the sole warranty, that the disks on which the
Software is furnished will be free of defects, as set forth in the Warranty
Card or printed manual included with the Software. No distributor, dealer
or any other entity or person is authorized to expand or alter this warranty
or any other provisions of this Agreement. Any representation, other than
the warranties set forth in this Agreement, will not bind Creative.
Creative does not warrant that the functions contained in the Software will
meet your requirements or that the operation of the Software will be
uninterrupted, error-free or free from malicious code. For purposes of this
paragraph, “malicious code” means any program code designed to
contaminate other computer programs or computer data, consume
computer resources, modify, destroy, record, or transmit data, or in some
other fashion usurp the normal operation of the computer, computer
system, or computer network, including viruses, Trojan horses, droppers,
worms, logic bombs, and the like. EXCEPT AS STATED ABOVE IN
THIS AGREEMENT, THE SOFTWARE IS PROVIDED AS-IS
WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESS OR
IMPLIED, INCLUDING, BUT NOT LIMITED TO, ANY IMPLIED
WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY AND FITNESS FOR A
PARTICULAR PURPOSE. CREATIVE IS NOT OBLIGATED TO
PROVIDE ANY UPDATES, UPGRADES OR TECHNICAL
SUPPORT FOR THE SOFTWARE.
Further, Creative shall not be liable for the accuracy of any information
provided by Creative or third party technical support personnel, or any
damages caused, either directly or indirectly, by acts taken or omissions
made by you as a result of such technical support.

Creative Ensoniq AudioPCI uses the latest music synthesis technology to play many notes
simultaneously, creating a new dimension for musical and multimedia applications. Creative’s Ensoniq
AudioPCI is upgradeable with user-selectable banks for loading wavetable samples (digital instrument
and sound samples).
After installing the Creative audio software, refer to the on-line User’s Guide, located in the audio card
group, and Help for detailed information about the Creative Mixer and other utilities.

For the best results from your audio card, you need:
• IBM-compatible PC with an Intel®
Pentium or AMD®
K Series processor rated at 100 MHz
• 16 MB RAM (Random Access Memory)
• 6 MB of storage space on your hard disk for included applications
• Windows® 95, Windows® 95, or Windows NT 4.0
• SVGA display card that supports 640x480 resolution and a minimum of 256 colors
• CD-ROM drive
• PCI 2.1 compliant expansion slot for the audio card

To install the audio card:
1. Turn off your computer, and
disconnect the power cable.
2. Disconnect the monitor and other
devices that are connected to the
computer.
3. Remove the computer cover.
4. Locate a PCI slot to
accommodate the audio card.
5. Remove the slot cover from your
computer—save the screw to
secure the audio card.

cover, touch a grounded metal
surface to discharge static
electricity.
Remove or disable any existing
audio card and its driver from your
computer. Refer to the
manufacturer’s documentation for
details.

6. Align the gold-striped tabs on the
bottom of the audio card with the
PCI slot, and firmly press the
card into place until it fits snugly.
7. Use the screw from the slot cover
to secure the audio card to the
frame of the computer—securing
the card assures proper
grounding.
8. Connect the CD audio cable from
your CD-ROM drive to the audio
card CD_IN connector.
9. Connect your speakers,
headphones, microphone,
joystick, MIDI devices, or other
devices to the back panel of the
audio card.
10. Replace the computer cover.
11. Reconnect the power cable,
monitor, and other devices.

The Creative Ensoniq AudioPCI Software CD contains drivers necessary for operation and utilities to
make the most of the audio card. The software installation varies according to your computer’s
operating system. The following installation software is provided:
• Windows 95/98
• Windows NT
:LQGRZV When you turn on your computer, Windows 95/98 automatically detects the new hardware, and prompts
you for the software installation disk. The installation may vary from the instructions below based upon
previously installed software and hardware.
To install in Windows 95:
1. Turn on your computer for
Windows 95 to automatically
detect your new hardware. The
New Hardware Found dialog
appears.
2. Select the Driver from disk
provided by hardware
manufacturer option, and click
OK. The Install From Disk
dialog appears.
3. Insert the Creative Ensoniq
AudioPCI CD in your CD-ROM
drive. Enter the path for your
CD-ROMdriveandthesoftware.
For example, use the Browse
button to locate, or type, the
following: D:AUDIOENGLISHWIN95DRVEAPCI95.INF (D: represents your CD-ROM
drive). Click OK to install the Windows 95/98 drivers.
4. When prompted, install the gameport/joystick drivers from the installation CD. For example, use
the Browse button to locate, or type, the following: D:DIRECTXDIRECTXDRIVERSUSA.
Click OK to install the gameport/joystick drivers.
5. Restart your computer when prompted.

AudioPCI disk is in the drive, the
CreativeEnsoniqAudioPCIscreen
appears and announces that you
are about to install the drivers and
software for your Creative Ensoniq
AudioPCI. Click OK to continue.
7. Next, read the Software License
Agreement and, if you agree, click
Yes to continue.
8. The README file that is
displayed contains recent
information that may not appear in
this manual. After you have
finished reading, click Next to
continue.

Double-click the My Computer
icon on your desktop, then double-
click your CD-ROM drive icon to
start the Creative audio software
install if the CD is in the drive.

9. The Destination Directory dialog
asks you to confirm the location
and the name of the directory to
which the drivers and software will
be copied. When the directory
name is correct, click Next to
begin the installation.
10. The status screen gives a
continuous update of the
installation progress.
11. When the installation is complete,

• Boost adds a 20-dB audio gain to the microphone.
• Mute can eliminate feedback when you are using a full-duplex telephone application. When Mute
is selected, microphone input is heard from speakers (or headphones) attached to the AudioPCI
card. If only Mic (microphone) is selected in the recording panel, Mute does not affect input.
2SWLRQV • Always on Top places the Mixer on top of other active windows. This feature allows you to
dynamically adjust the settings for sound currently being input/output.
• Voice Control Only limits the Mixer display to only the main volume control. You can select the
panels to be included in the display from the list on the Options menu.
• Save Options Now/On Exit allow you to use the Save command to suit your needs.

Hardware conflicts occur when two or more devices contend for the same resources. Conflicts between
your audio card and another device may occur regarding the I/O address, IRQ line, or DMA channel.
To resolve hardware conflicts:
1. Right-click the My Computer icon
on your desktop, and select
Properties. The System Properties
dialog appears.
2. Click the Device Manager tab.
3. Double-click Sound, video, game
controllers. A list of multimedia
devices appears.
4. Select your audio card, for example,

To uninstall the software:

The joystick port on the audio card is a standard PC game control adapter or game I/O port. You can
connect most analog joysticks with a 15-pin D-sub connector directly to the port; it works with any
application that is compatible with standard PC joysticks.
If you need to run two joysticks, a Y-cable is available from Creative Labs’ Customer Service (Y-cables
from other sources may not work). Some sophisticated joysticks may require the MIDI adapter or Y-
cable to work with the audio card.

• Sound Blaster MIDI
To connect a MIDI device to the audio card, you need a MIDI cable adapter. The MIDI cable adapter

or Creative Labs’ Customer Service for more information.
Another manufacturer’s MIDI

• Connect headphones to the stereo phone jack on your CD-ROM drive’s front panel, and adjust the
volume control settings on the drive. If there is sound from your headphones, check the CD audio
cable connection from the CD-ROM drive to the audio card.
• Ensure the speakers are properly connected to the audio card’s output connector. (See the colored
insert for detailed connection information.)

• The audio card joystick port conflicts with another joystick port in the system. Disable the audio

Uninstall the joystick, then reinstall to load the drivers. The drivers are located on the Creative

El puerto para palanca de juego de la tarjeta de sonido es un adaptador estándar de PC para juegos o un
puerto de entrada y salida para juegos. En él se puede conectar la mayoría de las palancas de juego
analógicas que posean un enchufe de 15 pines tipo D-sub y funciona con cualquier aplicación que sea
compatible con palancas de juego estándar para PC.
Si se necesita conectar dos palancas de juego puede obtener un cable bifurcador en Y a través del
Departamento de Servicio a los Clientes de Creative Labs (es posible que los cables bifurcadores en Y
de otros proveedores no funcione correctamente). Algunas palancas de juego sofisticadas pueden
requerir el uso de un adaptador MIDI o un cable bifurcador en Y para operar con la tarjeta de sonido.

Le logiciel CD Creative Ensoniq AudioPCI contient des pilotes nécessaires à l’utilisation de la carte

logiciel varie selon le système d’exploitation de votre ordinateur. Le logiciel d’installation suivant est
fourni :
• Windows 95/98
• Windows NT
:LQGRZV Lorsque vous allumez votre ordinateur, Windows 95/98 détecte automatiquement le nouveau matériel, et
vous invite à introduire le disque d’installation du logiciel. L’installation peut varier par rapport aux
indications fournies ci-dessous, en fonction du logiciel et du matériel déjà installés.
Installation sous Windows 95 :
1. Allumez votre ordinateur pour Windows 95 afin de détecter automatiquement votre nouveau
matériel. La boîte de dialogue Nouveau périphérique trouvé apparaît.
2. Sélectionnez l’option Driver from disk provided by hardware manufacturer (pilote de la disquette
fournie par le fabricant du matériel), et cliquez sur OK. La boîte de dialogue Installer à partir de la
disquette apparaît.
3. Introduisez le CD du logiciel Creative Ensoniq AudioPCI Software dans votre lecteur de CD-
ROM. Entrez le chemin de votre lecteur de CD-ROM et du logiciel figurant sur votre disque
AudioPCI. Utilisez, par exemple, le bouton Parcourir pour définir l’emplacement, ou tapez ce qui

ordinateur, afin que les modifications puissent prendre effet. Sélectionnez la deuxième option pour
redémarrer votre ordinateur, et cliquez sur OK.

5. Cliquez sur OK pour fermer la boîte de dialogue Multimédia, redémarrez votre ordinateur et
revenez à la page de l’onglet Périphériques.
6. Cliquez sur l’option Ajouter, et choisissez l’option Pilote non listé ou mis à jour. Cliquez sur le

7. Introduisez la disquette ou le CD AudioPCI Windows NT 4.0 contenant le pilote dans son lecteur.
Tapez le lecteur ou utilisez l’option Parcourir pour pointer dessus ; par exemple,

8. Cliquez sur OK pour afficher la boîte de dialogue Ajout d’un pilote non listé ou mis à jour.

• Mute vous permet de supprimer le retour lorsque vous utilisez une application téléphonique
duplex intégral. Lorsque Mute est sélectionné, on entend l’entrée micro à partir des haut-parleurs
(ou du casque) connectés à la carte AudioPCI. Si seule l’option Mic (micro) est sélectionnée dans
le panneau d’enregistrement, Mute n’affecte pas l’entrée.

permet de régler dynamiquement les paramètres pour le son actuellement entré / sorti.
• Voice Control Only limite l’affichage du Mixer au seul réglage du volume principal. Vous pouvez
sélectionner les panneaux à inclure dans l’affichage à partir de la liste proposée dans le menu
Options.
• Save Options Now/On Exit vous permet d’utiliser la commande Save (enregistrer) en fonction de

Il y a incompatibilité matérielle quand deux ou plusieurs périphériques puisent dans les mêmes
ressources. Les conflits entre une carte audio et un autre périphérique peuvent se produire à cause d’une
adresse E/S, d’une ligne IRQ ou d’une voie DMA.
Marche à suivre pour résoudre les incompatibilités matérielles :
1. A l’aide du bouton droit de la souris, cliquez sur l’icône Poste de travail du bureau et sélectionnez
Propriétés. La boîte de dialogue Propriétés du système apparaît.
2. Cliquez sur l’onglet Gestionnaire de périphériques.
3. Cliquez deux fois sur Contrôleurs de son, vidéo, jeux. Une liste de périphériques multimédia
apparaît.
4. Sélectionnez votre carte audio ; par exemple, Creative PCI64 16-bit Audio.
5. Choisissez le bouton Propriétés.
6. Cliquez sur l’onglet Ressources.
7. Désactivez l’option Utiliser les paramètres automatiques.
Changez « Paramètres basés sur : » en Configuration de base 0009.
8. Déterminez l’incompatibilité en examinant la « Liste de périphériques en conflit ».
9. Si un conflit persiste, essayez d’autres options de Configuration de base avant de changer les
paramètres vous-même.
10. Sélectionnez OK pour refermer chacune des fenêtres des propriétés et redémarrez l’ordinateur.

L’utilitaire de désinstallation de Windows 95 permet de retirer des applications, puis de les réinstaller
pour corriger les problèmes, changer la configuration ou effectuer des mises à niveau.
Marche à suivre pour désinstaller le logiciel :
1. Cliquez sur la barre des tâches et sélectionnez Paramètres du menu Démarrage
2. Sélectionnez le Panneau de configuration. Le groupe du Panneau de configuration apparaît.
3. Cliquez deux fois sur l’icône Ajout/Suppression de programmes. La boîte de dialogue des
propriétés Ajout/Suppression de programmes apparaît.
4. Sélectionnez dans la liste le logiciel à désinstaller.
5. Sélectionnez le bouton Ajouter/Supprimer.
6. Suivez les instructions sur écran pour accomplir la procédure de désinstallation.

Le port de manette de jeu de la carte audio est un adaptateur de commande de jeu standard pour PC, ou
port d’E/S de jeu. Sur ce port, vous pouvez connecter la plupart des manettes de jeu analogiques, par
l’intermédiaire d’un sous-connecteur à 15 broches en D ; il fonctionne avec toutes les applications
compatibles avec une manette de jeu standard pour PC.
Si vous avez besoin de deux manettes de jeu, un câble en Y est disponible auprès du service après-vente
de Creative Labs (les câbles en Y d’autres fournisseurs risquent de ne pas fonctionner). Certaines
manettes de jeu plus évoluées exigent quelquefois que l’adaptateur MIDI ou que le câble en Y
fonctionne avec la carte audio.

La carte audio est conforme aux normes MIDI ci-dessous :

Pour connecter un périphérique MIDI à la carte audio, vous avez besoin d’un adaptateur de câble MIDI.
Cet adaptateur de câble MIDI permet de connecter en même temps un instrument MIDI et une manette
de jeu. Pour plus de renseignements, contactez votre revendeur local ou le service après-vente de
Creative Labs.

Plusieurs conditions peuvent être responsables. Pour en déterminer la raison, veuillez vérifier les
éléments suivants :
• L’option de sourdine et le curseur de volume du mélangeur Creative ou du contrôle de volume
Microsoft. (Pour plus de détails à ce sujet, consultez respectivement le Guide d’utilisation en ligne
de Creative ou l’aide en ligne de Windows.)
• Connectez un casque d’écoute à la prise stéréo pour casque d’écoute sur le panneau avant du
lecteur de CD-ROM et réglez le volume sonore du lecteur. Si le son passe par le casque d’écoute,
vérifiez la connexion du câble audio pour CD entre le lecteur de CD-ROM et la carte audio.
• Vérifiez que les haut-parleurs soient correctement branchés sur le connecteur de sortie de la carte

• Le port de manette de jeu de la carte audio est en conflit avec un autre port de manette de jeu du
système. Désactivez le port de manette de jeu de la carte audio et utilisez celui du système. Pour
désactiver le port de manette de jeu, consultez la section « Résolution des incompatibilités
matérielles à l’aide du gestionnaire de périphériques » à la page F-9.
• Il est possible que les pilotes de manettes de jeu de Windows, MSJSTICK.DRV et VJOYD.VXD,
n’aient pas été installés. Désinstallez la manette de jeu puis recommencez l’installation pour

Il est possible qu’un conflit matériel entraîne l’arrêt ou le redémarrage de l’ordinateur au cours de la
procédure d’installation. Pour résoudre cette incompatibilité, vérifiez les éléments suivants :
• Conflit matériel avec un autre périphérique du système (voir « Résolution des incompatibilités
matérielles à l’aide du gestionnaire de périphériques » à la page F-9).
• Le matériel ou le logiciel d’une carte audio déjà installée ont besoin d’être retirés (voir
« Désinstallation du logiciel » à la page F-10).
• La carte audio n’est pas bien installée dans son logement (voir « Installation de la carte audio » à
la page F-2).
• Il est possible que des dispositifs de contrôle du bus PCI soient en conflit avec le fonctionnement

Vérifiez que tous ces « grésillements » s’entendent dans tous les fichiers d’échantillons. Si ce problème
n’apparaît qu’avec certains jeux, consultez la documentation du fabricant du logiciel. Marche à suivre
pour déterminer la source de « grésillements » entendus dans tous les fichiers d’échantillons :
• Essayez différents réglages de ressources pour la carte audio, ou réglez la carte de sorte qu’elle
n’utilise que peu de ressources DMA (consultez la section « Résolution des incompatibilités
matérielles à l’aide du gestionnaire de périphériques » à la page F-9).
• Placez la carte audio dans un autre logement. Il se peut qu’un retour de l’alimentation électrique
ou d’un autre périphérique soit à l’origine du problème.
