2. IR + A + time /place
IR is normally followed by the word “A”
“A” CAN MEAN “AT” OR “TO”
Yo voy a las ocho. = I’m going at 8:00.
Ellos van a la playa. = They go to the beach.
“A” + el = al
Tú vas al banco por la mañana.

3. IR + A + infinitive
Infinitive = unconjugated verb
IR + A + infinitive = going to …
Nosotros vamos a bailar.
We are going to dance
Ellos van a estudiar.
They are going to study.

Yo – iré Nosotros – iremos
I will go we will go

6. Ejemplos del Futuro:
Mañana iré a Costa Rica.
 Tomorrow I will go to Costa Rica.
Ellos irán a la biblioteca el viernes.
 They will go to the library on Friday.
Nosotros iremos a las nueve.
 We will go at 9:00.

9. Ejemplos del Pretérito:
NO – you are not seeing things- the preterite forms of IR
are just like SER!! You have to pay attention to context!
Ayer fuimos al supermercado.
 Yesterday we went to the supermarket.
Ellos fueron a la fiesta anoche.
 They went to the party last night.
Yo fui a correr por una hora.
 I went to run for an hour.
Note: these have a definite period of time.

12. Ejemplos del Imperfecto:
Manuel iba a la escuela todos los días.
 Manuel used to go to school every day.
Tú ibas a las montañas cada año.
 You used to go to the mountains every year.
Yo iba a bailar todos los fines de semana.
 I used to go dance every weekend.
